Gen Lee time capsule opened, 2nd go ’round
CNN and others are reporting that the second time capsule underneath General Robert E Lee’s now-removed statue in Richmond, Virginia. Inside they found some of the items they were expecting, that were missing in the first lead time capsule discovered earlier in the plinth’s removal.
From CNN;
A second time capsule that was recently found in the pedestal of Richmond, Virginia’s, Robert E. Lee statue was opened Tuesday.
Items inside included an 1865 edition of Harper’s Weekly magazine with an clear image of a figure weeping over Abraham Lincoln’s grave; a Bible with a coin stuck to it; and a Richmond directory.
Also found were more newspapers, books, coins, and letters. A minié ball, a type of bullet commonly used in the American Civil War, was also discovered.
Conservators from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources (DHR) carefully opened the box and worked with caution. Water was found inside the box and its items had expanded, making it difficult for them to be removed.
Kate Ridgeway, Virginia’s Archaeological Conservator and who led the box’s opening, said the artifact was a “little more wet than we had hoped for.”
Crews now will continue to work on preserving and researching the items that were found inside the capsule over the next couple of days and weeks.

Still no picture of Abe Lincoln with ghetto blaster…
Racist historical folks.
Only perpetuating a “perceived” problem.
Wonder if there was any hooch or tobacco in it…..?
Coupla things that haven’t been talked about with this Memorial Removal. A gentle reminder; A number of organizations offered to pay for the removal/relocation of this artwork…at NO COST to the City of Richmond or the State of Virginia. Were turned down flatly.
The Statue was basically destroyed when General Lee’s body was sawn off at the waist “to facilitate the transfer on the highways” because of its size. I was involved in the transport of many an “oversized” load that did NOT require the destruction of the load. Many of these moved items were much much larger than this statue. “KKKoon Man” is silent as to where the pieces are now and what will become of them. Prolly will be melted down by a BIPOC College to make yard art.
The picture of Abe with the boombox was given to that Marconi fella, after all it was Gug’s radio.
So….Richmond, VA will be building a NEW time capsule (Wonder who is paying for it)…
Courtesy of Ole Ralphie Boy KKK Coonman Northam, guess what will be in the new time capsule?
Wonder why Northam isn’t contributing his 1984 Eastern Virginia Medical School yearbook? The one with the famous photo that made national news?
After all, doesn’t his 1984 Yearbook “reflect the diversity of modern Virginia”?

“What Will Be Inside Richmond’s New Time Capsule?”

“When the Robert E. Lee statue comes down from Monument Avenue, workers and historians will also remove a 134-year-old copper time capsule thought to be inside the pedestal on which the 12-ton statue sits.”
“State officials plan to remove the capsule, originally placed in 1887, according to records, and replace it with a modern one, packed with artifacts that capture the current context of Virginia history.”
“The artifacts are a snapshot of that moment in time, capturing both the protests of last year and the pandemic,” the Governor’s Office wrote in a statement. “They include a vaccination card, a photo of a Black ballerina in front of the statue, a Black Lives Matter sticker, a face mask, and a poem written in Unified English Braille.”
“During the process of loading and sealing the modern capsule, project leaders said the artifacts chosen to reflect the diversity of modern Virginia.”

“Bury your secrets not the truth”
Some guy
“Don’t believe everything you read on the internet” will go into history as one of Lincoln’s most accurate quotes. Or maybe it was “Not everything you read on the internet is true.” Whichever. Like a shot from a Derringer, a hit is good enough.
And so it continues.
