Richmond VA tears down Gen Lee statue and all they get is a lousy couple of books *** UPDATE ***

Lee statue time capsule

After removing the statue of Robert E Lee earlier this year, folks in Richmond, Virginia started work on bringing down the plinth on which he formerly stood. Within the plinth was supposed to a copper encased time capsule filled with Confederate artifacts and a rare photo of Lincoln in his coffin.

They found a time capsule, though it’s made of lead and smaller than historical records indicate it should have been, and opened it. Inside, just like the Russian Collusion investigation, they found a whole lot of nothing.

NBC News reports;

A rust-colored 1875 almanac, a cloth envelope and a silver coin were found Wednesday in a time capsule that lay hidden beneath a towering statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee in Virginia for more than 130 years.

As intriguing as the water-damaged items were, they’re not what many were expecting to see after state conservators spent five hours gingerly prying the time capsule open. Even the mortar-encrusted lead box was a bit of a surprise.

Historical records led many to believe the capsule held dozens of objects related to the Confederacy as well as a picture of deceased President Abraham Lincoln. But in just a few minutes, its contents were revealed and the items were few.

There were three books total. Besides the almanac, there was a tattered book with a pink cover that appeared to be an edition of “The Huguenot Lovers: A Tale of the Old Dominion” by Collinson Pierrepont Edwards Burgwyn. He was a city of Richmond civil engineer who worked on the plans for Monument Avenue, where the Lee statue had stood.

There also appeared to be a pamphlet of some kind that made reference to water power facilities for the city of Manchester, a community south of Richmond.

Devon Henry, the contractor who took down the Lee statue and is continuing to work on the removal of the pedestal in Richmond, said there could be a second time capsule that’s yet to be found.

What was supposed to be in there?

A newspaper article from 1887 — the year a time capsule was embedded in the pedestal — suggested that the capsule contains Civil War memorabilia and a “picture of Lincoln lying in his coffin.” Records from the Library of Virginia also suggested that 37 Richmond residents, organizations and businesses contributed about 60 objects to the capsule, many of which are believed to be related to the Confederacy.

That time capsule was believe to be a copper box measuring 14-by-14-by-8 inches, larger than the lead box pulled from the pedestal last week. Besides there being far fewer objects, the capsule removed Friday measured 4-by-8-by-11.5 inches and was made of lead.

Speaking before the capsule was opened by conservators, Virginia Governor Ralph “Coon Man” Northam (D), who vocally supports infanticide, can’t remember if he’s the one in blackface or the Klan robes in the picture he chose for his medical school yearbook, and falsely claimed to have served in Desert Storm, said Virginia doesn’t need monuments that glorify the Confederacy.

“We are a Commonwealth that embraces diversity,” he said. “We are inclusive.” “Inclusive” apparently doesn’t include Southerners.

*** UPDATE @ 1622L ***

According to Fox News, they’ve just discovered a copper box in the statue’s base. This matches the description from the contemporaneous news articles from 1887. Maybe this will turn up something interesting…

Crews finishing up the removal of a pedestal where a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee once stood in the middle of Richmond, Virginia have found what appears to be a time capsule that was buried there more than a century ago.

“They found it! This is likely the time capsule everyone was looking for,” Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam tweeted Monday morning, along with several photos of a box being removed from the site.

If there are contents inside, their condition wasn’t immediately clear. Northam said conservators are studying the box and it would be opened on a later date.

The time capsule’s discovery marked the latest development in a months-long search for it. Contemporaneous news accounts indicate the capsule was placed during a cornerstone-laying ceremony in 1887 attended by thousands of people. News accounts described its dozens of donated artifacts, including Confederate memorabilia.

There are pictures at the linked article. There are also photos in which you can see Lee’s plinth and the wanton vandalism and hate of the “inclusive”, tolerant party of Governor Ralph “Coon Man” Northam.

I hope upon one scrap of paper was drawn a picture of a ‘rooster’ and the words ‘s*ck it’.

The Confederate of yesterday is multitudes greater of an American than folks that have pulled the drain plugs on this Ship.

And you can quote me on that.

KoB

Word! If anyone here doesn’t know my opinion on the Confederate Soldier, AND Bobby Lee, welp you just haven’t been paying any attention at all.

I’ll just leave this here…pay attention to the vocals!

I recall the Boomer toon about Roman soldiers scribing male genitalia pics on Hadrian’s Wall.
I was hoping for something along those lines here.

Two books, hmm?

Being Woke they’ll no doubt burn them…

For those who lived in the Richmond, VA area before Bobby Lee’s statue was taken down:

The ninja family have pictures of what those THUGS did to his statue. It was AWFUL. Terrible. Disgusting.

And no one did a darn thing about it.

Bet some of those same folks who demanded his Statue be taken down probably want burying rights at Arlington National Cemetery.

They need to study the history of Arlington.

Mason nailed it when writing ” Inclusive” apparently doesn’t include Southerners.”

Due to contrary belief, Ole Ralphie Boy, Mr.KKK, Coon Man Doofus Northam was NOT a very popular Governor as proven by the recent Virginia Governor Election. Majorities of Virginians had enough of his lies, shenanigans and stupidities.

Just as they had enough of that Carpet Bagger name
McAuliffe and Hillary’s VP nominee, Kaine.

As a reminder, here are Coon Man’s military records during DS:

The first time I saw him on TV being interviewed, I quickly concluded he was a doofus. Every time a reporter asked him a question, he tended to look to his wife, sitting next to him, for the answer. She stopped him more than once from saying something stupid.

If only Jill Biden, never mind.

Hondo

Concur. “Not able to remember” whether you were the guy in blackface or in the KKK robe & hood in a photo for which you intentionally posed some years ago is rather strong evidence of being either a monumentally dumb SOB – or a baldfaced liar.

Here’s the deal. Robert Lee’s statue goes back up…along with statues of Jane Fonda, Chelsea Manning, and John Anthony Walker. I mean, why stop at one American traitor when we can have several?

Oh, wait…none of those others were into white supremacy.

My bad…carry on, please. 🤙🏼

General Robert E. Lee was a man of faith, honor, duty, and integrity.

I have a copy of his letters home, published by his son Robert E. Lee, which show his humanity and his nature.

The faithless, dishonorable, duplicitous, shirkers cannot stand real men such as he.

Before God’s Judgement Throne, he will be vindicated and they will be everlastingly and irrevocably condemned. I shall not weep for them.

Graybeard:

THANK YOU for your words.

The ninja family is getting tired of hearing that Bobby Lee was a “Traitor”.

Both members of the ninja family were born in “The North”. Both were NOT raised in “The South” since both were born Army Brats.

Our children were raised to respect others despite the color of one’s skin.

When researching our family trees, turns out both of our families were too poor or did not have the need to own “slaves” in the 1700s-1865 era…

One of the biggest hypocrite from the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s was LBJ…

Bobby Lee was given a mission. He is STILL a BETTER man than those two individuals who currently occupy the White House as President and the Vice President..poll numbers for those two are proving it.

If we don’t watch it, history may repeat itself, i.e. The War Between The States…

Whenever I have heard present day peeps refer to Confederate officers, such as Gen. Lee, as “traitors,” they are invariably lefties who in reality hate this country and support Communism. They have no use or respect for the Constitution; and invariably, they never served in our military. One of my lawer colleagues was Exhibit A in that group. He was also a Berzerkeley graduate and was a Vietnam War protester.

Hack Stone

Early reports are saying that a document taken from the second time capsule reads “Epstein did not kill him self” and “Let’s Go Brandon!”

You can’t make this stuff up:

“What Will Be Inside Richmond’s New Time Capsule?”

https://www.wtvr.com/news/local-news/what-will-be-inside-richmonds-new-time-capsule

“When the Robert E. Lee statue comes down from Monument Avenue, workers and historians will also remove a 134-year-old copper time capsule thought to be inside the pedestal on which the 12-ton statue sits.”

“State officials plan to remove the capsule, originally placed in 1887, according to records, and replace it with a modern one, packed with artifacts that capture the current context of Virginia history.”

“The artifacts are a snapshot of that moment in time, capturing both the protests of last year and the pandemic,” the Governor’s Office wrote in a statement. “They include a vaccination card, a photo of a Black ballerina in front of the statue, a Black Lives Matter sticker, a face mask, and a poem written in Unified English Braille.”

“During the process of loading and sealing the modern capsule, project leaders said the artifacts chosen to reflect the diversity of modern Virginia.”

🤔

You really can’t make up this shit. The absurdities of our present reality are right out of “Idiocracy.” A new version of the movie could have the opening of this new time capsule.
