Proposed NJ bill seeks to enhance penalty for stolen valor

| December 20, 2021

Some New Jersey Assembly members are looking to enhance the penalties for stolen valor. The new legislation, if it passes and is signed into law, would make it a crime of the second degree (a felony punishable by 5-10 years in prison and up to a $150k fine) if one procures $75,000 or more in their stolen valor charade.

From Tap Into Bordentown;

To deter the illegal act of falsely claiming to be a veteran of the United States Armed Forces, Assemblymembers Carol Murphy and Sterley Stanley have sponsored legislation to upgrade the crimes for those who misrepresent themselves as a member or veteran of the United States Armed Forces.

The bill (A-1121) would upgrade these crimes to a second degree if the actor obtains money, property, or other tangible benefits of $75,000 or more. A crime of the second degree would be punishable by five to ten years imprisonment, up to a $150,000 fine, or both. If the actor obtains money, property, or other tangible benefits less than $75,000, then the crime would remain as a crime of the third degree, subject to a minimum fine of $1,000.

“Current and former members of our military have protected and served our country to earn their much-deserved benefits. Those who unjustly misrepresent themselves as US veterans, through ‘stolen valor’ to take advantage of our system deserve a harsh penalty,” said Murphy and Stanley. “This measure will ensure that those who break the law and impersonate a war hero receive the proper and upgraded punishment.”

The bill advanced out of the Assembly Appropriations Committee on Monday.

I’m surprised a Blue State like NJ would be in favor of making it a felony. This is the party that believes in 65 genders, so why not let some shlep identify as a “War Hero”.
Speaking of shelps…Da Nang Dick is off telling his state’s Commie Party what a wonderful they’re doing. If anybody know Commies, its Da Nang Dick. He waded waist deep through “the bush” and was “in the shit” during his time in Vietnam.

David

Oh, but he claims he didn’t know they were commies. People’s World Amistad Award wasn’t a clue, apparently… He probably thought it was sponsored by the tabloid magazine.

Everything’s either a felony or citation in a Blue State… and they think offending someone with disagreement is “hate speech,” too.

Finally.
Decades of panhandlers on Atlantic City main streets,
New Jersey highway exits, and city intersections,
thousands all wearing their tool in trade,
the black and yellow veteran cap.

New Jersey is likely 2nd to California
in the bulk number of phony veterans trolling stopped cars on the roads and highways.
Signs, caps, the same shtick.

The disabled veteran panhandler in this news story is legit,
as Atlantic City Boardwalk panhandlers are verified and approved.

Not so for off-Boardwalk, the main street Atlantic City panhandlers,
who troll the buy and sell gold stores, pawn shops,
and every other business in town with heavy foot traffic.
Try getting 2 donuts and road coffee at casino handy Dunkin Donuts?
Another panhandler, right before leaving town.
For many, that’s the last, and lasting, sight and impression
before leaving Atlantic City by car.
The coffee, food, cash provider, or gas station panhandler.

IMHO,
$75,000 is a Jersey Democratic Party cop out,
a bar too high for most,
as many who steal from charities, scam for discounts,
and steal hearts, never reach that lofty plateau.
However, career and organized panhandlers do.

KoB

Yep! Set the theft bar at $1K and the fine at a minimum of $75K. And make the law Nation Wide.

Hack Stone,
Wow.
The FU of Google reveals a lot about that guy.
But no whitepages listing. So I went to whitepages…
and SGM Ron either paid whitepages to delete his entry,
or…
he/she changed his/her name to Debbie, and moved to Philadelphia…
… or Tennessee.

Pretty sure that Ronald Mailahn, or as he is known around these parts, Gunny Driveway, is the individual who contributed the word “lawer” to the lexicon of the Adorable Deplorables. Hack was trying to stuff the ballot box with Gunny Highway votes in the Stolen Valor brackets that Jonn set up, because Hack Stone always supports the home team.

Real talk. If they wanna be military so bad, special prison that’s run like a boot camp/basic training. A month would/should do. Sheeeet, I’d volunteer to DS the place.

I’ll have to practice my “On your belly, on your back, on your feet…”

When I retired in 2007 and moved to Florida, I had firearms in the car trunk transporting them on the nj turnpike and my hands were white knuckled until I went over the Del. Memorial bridge. By Federal law, a person transporting firearms from one state moving to another can transport said firearms but it seems nj jerky state Gestapo ( njs troopers) don’t believe in said state laws. I shot a number of handgun matches in NJ back in the 1970’s on the Brink’s team which were sponsered by Law enforcement with State Troopers shooting, but back then they were a great bunch of LEO’s compared to the “New Breed”
