City of Austin cancels Veterans Day parade due to COVID
No, this isn’t an article from a year ago accidentally published only now. It’s 2021 and, despite the State of Texas having been fully open for business for ages, the City of Austin’s restrictive COVID policies forces the cancellation of the Veterans Day parade originally scheduled for tomorrow.
Residents of the city that is the state capitol and whose unofficial motto is “Keep Austin weird” pointed out some of the ironies. For example, Fox reports them noting;
Q2 Stadium, where Austin FC plays its home games, seats more than 20,000 fans and has been operating at 100% capacity this season.
Parade organizers were expecting the outdoor event to receive 30,000 attendees. Fox has the rest of the report;
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has invited military veterans in Austin, Texas to gather at the state capitol building after their Veterans Day parade was cancelled due to the city’s coronavirus restrictions.
“The City of Austin’s overreaching COVID requirements have forced the Austin Veterans Parade Foundation to cancel their annual event,” the Republican governor tweeted Tuesday. “I’m inviting them to host a rally on the south steps of the Texas State Capitol. We celebrate our nation’s heroes in Texas.”
“This is something that we could not do as we anticipated some 30,000 attendees to the parade,” the parade organizers said in a statement. “We are hopeful that in 2022, the restrictions on public gatherings will be back to normal. In lue of the parade, we are working with the City of Austin and the Austin Veterans Commission to dedicate the Veterans Park on Nov. 11th.”
The parade organizers later announced that they have “respectfully declined” Abbott’s invitation and noted that they have already committed to an event dedicating Veterans Pocket Park in Austin at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, according to Fox 7 Austin.

Small correction, while the brewing association was composed of German and Czech immigrants, the recipe is a Bavarian lentenbock and the original brewer who started them off was German. (However, Czech dark beers are wonderful. Not Irish, but extremely good.)

Austin has been weird for a half century. Back in 1967 when young SSGT Poe ETS’d at Ft. Bragg to return to West Texas to go back to college on the GI Bill, newly reinstated for Vietnam vets, his brilliant, but worthless, hippie/radical, brother-in-law, a perennial student at UT Austin, was quite proud of the fact that the city, even then, was famed for its weirdness. “Keep Austin Weird” bumper stickers and T-shirts were already on widespread display back in those days.
Admittedly, with each passing year it has gotten weirder, to the point of being toxic…
Maybe what is needed is bumper stickers that say ” keep the weirdos in austin”?
There were also two long weekends of Austin City Limits Festival at Zilker park a month ago, and of course the Formula 1 race last month.
Austin is, sadly, in the grips of the commies for now.

No Parades in Ausiin but In Palm Beach County, Fl, WFTL AM (amplitude modulation) radio this morning mentioned parades in the area. I could see liberal Austin not having a parade since most likely they hate the Mil and the Chi Com virus was an excuse not to have one. Have they had them in the past.?????????
