Alo Presidente

| June 16, 2009

Hoping to cuddle with the new president, ABC News has decided to do an infomercial for the Administration on June 24th, according to the Drudge Report. They’ll film a live prime time special from the White House on the president’s health care plan without offering any opposing voices. Kinda like Hugo Chavez’ weekly rants on Venezuelan TV.

Drudge reprints the RNC protest that ABC isn’t giving a fair airing of the opposition view. ABC, in turn answers on their web presence. It’s really rather humorous – ABC outraged that Republicans think they’re biased. DrewM at Ace of Spades summarized ABC response; “…shut up you f***ing whack jobs, we are the deciders.”

But here’s the quote from ABC;

Like any programs we broadcast, ABC News will have complete editorial control. To suggest otherwise is quite unfair to both our journalists and our audience.

Yeah, I’m sure it’ll be a huge audience. On a June night, several hours long, the only folks watching will be bloggers looking for that one slip that will propel them into the ionosphere overnight. I can’t picture families huddled around their TVs taking notes.

Other than the fact that ABC has decided to jump straight into the bag for Obama, there’s really no story here. What could this possibly accomplish? It’s not like there’s going to be a referendum on socialized health care (although, there really should be – the wonks might be surprised).

It’s all just that feel-good ownership bull sh*t that won Obama the election. We all know that every damn Democrat is going to vote for this economy-killer and they’re in the majority. And the Democrats will vote for it for no other reason than to buy the votes of the ignorant, pliant masses who think government health care is the answer to overpriced medical treatment.

I don’t know how ABC even thought this was a good idea – it just illustrates how stupid these TV execs are these days. I wonder how long before NBC, CBS or CNN offer Obama three hours every week in his red shirt and beret. Maybe The Sniper can give us a preview of how that’d look.

They’re not even pretending anymore…

Just A Grunt

So I wonder who is paying who here and does this prime time show come with commercials? I didn’t think any of the networks were in good enough financial shape to be giving away free air time. Wasn’t it just last month they complained about the frequency of the Obama prime time speeches?
I know nobody wants to watch this thing, and those that do just go into a deeper depression over the continuing march to socialism this country is on the path to.
Anyway I am all out of ideas of how to stop this since nobody in Washington is listening.

I think it’s terrible when our public airwaves to include the Media outlets get in bed with our elected officials. ABC News giving free airtime to the President is as bad as when Fox News gave free airtime to the Bush Administration.

Does anyone remember when Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly and Brit Hume all did sit downs with President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Sec. of State Condi Rice? I believe these events happened every other month, even though it seemed weekly.

Politicians given “news” networks access to the White House is not a new phenomenon. Just wait till the next Republican President is in the White House. Will they tell Fox News to stay away?

OldTrooper

Anything the administration has to try this hard to sell can’t be good.

TSO

I don’t even watch FoxNews, so correct me if I am wrong, but were those interviews on a specific subject like HealthCare? Or was it freerange?

Looks like 170 Republicans voted against the troops today. Why do they hate us? They send us to war and don’t want us to have the necessary equipment to win the wars.

OldTrooper

Another Disgrunted IVAW: That would be the perception, however, reality looks a little different. The reason many republicans voted against this is because of the old “bait and switch” that goes on. The good legislation had a poison pill attached to it in the form of $5 billion to the IMF, something that has nothing to do with the troops. They knew that the republicans wouldn’t vote for that and they could then use it against them, with the same argument that you are putting forward.

I guess it worked, because you have already jumped on it, and they hope a lot more will, also.

Jerry920

This is one thing the Democratic party does much better then the Republican Party, use the media. Ever since JFK had the lights turned up so Richard Nixon would sweat profusely, they’ve used a compliant media very adroitly. Republicans have to do a better job of this.

The Sniper

You think this is bait and switch? Have you taken a look at the CIFTA Treaty lately? Scary. Even more Chavez than Chavez if you ask me… which you didn’t.

Jerry, for all the pontification of the moderate within the GOP saying we have to “move past Reagan”, it seems to me he was the last (hell, ONLY) Republican in my lifetime who was able to communicate, even bypassing the media spin when he had to. Seems to me that more now than ever, we need today’s examples of the Great Communicator.
