Nos Morituri….

How many US troops are there in Afghanistan now? And how many will be brought home in body bags, if at all?

Depends on who you talk to. Per this article from NPR, 3,000 were sent in ahead to assist our people there to evacuate, and apparently another 3,000 may be sent there as well.

https://www.npr.org/2021/08/17/1028519940/biden-kabul-national-security-adviser-sullivan-afghanistan-troops-taliban

From the article:  President Biden gave the order last Thursday to send U.S. troops into Afghanistan as it became clear that the Taliban were overrunning Afghan government forces on their way to taking Kabul.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters Tuesday that as administration officials watched the situation unfold, the decision was made to supplement the first contingent of some 3,000 troops with some 3,000 more. Sullivan’s briefing was the first from the White House since Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital, fell to the Taliban on Sunday.

Critics have charged the president was cloistered in Camp David as the situation in Afghanistan quickly deteriorated, but Sullivan said Biden “has been deeply engaged in this.” Biden returned briefly to the White House on Monday to address the nation about Afghanistan, and he plans to leave Camp David again for Washington on Tuesday evening. – article

Excuse me, but “deeply engaged”? Does that mean he was awake when spoken to? He’s borderline senile, as are a few pathetic idjits who sometimes post crap here on TAH, so how was Biteme “deeply engaged” if he thinks the covid “crisis” is more important than the safety of our troops? And did it occur to any of those dimwitted egomaniacs in the 5-sided peanut butter jar that maybe the business of evacuating the ‘Stan should have been kept below the table level? Did anyone of those geniuses think that maybe the aircraft we’re leaving behind should be debrained so that nothing will work once we’re gone, never mind the artillery and tanks and all the rest of that stuff? And munitions piles/in storage should be booby-trapped, too.

If you want a comparison, Pres. Ford got a message in the middle of a meeting with his energy advisor that Saigon was falling. No plans to evacuate had been announced or planned because the US ambassador blithely dismissed the approach of the NVA as “nothing to worry about” – and he was wrong. If he had started evacuating people when he had the chance, ahead of the NVA who were shelling villes to the north of Saigon, the panic that occurred and the disastrous evacuation might have been less troublesome.

This is different. It is pure dumbassery in the form of official announcements AS TO when we were leaving that set up this entire fustercluck and the Taliban knew it. The leader of that bunch of murderous thugs had already met with the Chinese ambassador to do a deal once the USA, et al., had pulled out. However, it is as obvious now as it was when I read about that deal between the Taliban and the Chinese that they weren’t going to wait until 31 August.

There is nothing going on here that is a surprise; it’s just the length of time it took the Taliban to start their drive to absorb that worthless pisshole country and its inhabitants.

Shorter than I expected. I thought they’d at least be polite enough to wait another week. That would give us time to boobytrap all that junk we’re leaving behind.

After making the Taliban the most well armed terrorist outfit in the world, any servicemember who is carried home in a box…the blood is on Joe/Kamala/Milley and the rest of their disgusting ilk’s hands.

I could’ve SWORN their was a Section III, Para 3 in the Constitution about giving AID and comfort to the enemy. I’ve never claimed to be brilliant, but for fuck’s sake: giving rifles, machine guns, rockets, drones, up armored vehicles, and helicopters to terrorists is a clear cut case of AIDING the enemy as i’ve ever seen.

Nancy was quick as FUCK to push through a sham impeachment hearing on Donald…TWICE. But she commends the drooler in chief on this shit show.

Birds of a feather…..

Don’t know how many in Afghanistan, just know that there are zero in Syria… oh wait..

The big difference between today and Saigon is that in Saigon the South tried to fight back. No such nonsense going on here. They can’t drop their guns fast enough.

Are we SURE these ANA aren’t “French”?
“Military weaponry. Never fired. Dropped only once. White flags. Waved only once.”

I repeat myself, but I never thought that I would see, in my lifetime, the destruction of my Country by it’s “elected” officials. Always thought it would be from that Big Blast of incoming ICBMs.

Sad, disgusting, and infuriating!

Roh-Dog

With respect to ICBMs, relax…the day’s not over yet.

Reminder, only mass can stop gamma particles. 2.2-2.4 inches of cement per halving thickness.
I recommend at least a foot overhead cover in a basement to shield from fallout.

Have a plan

Roger all that -Dog. Remember 5/77 FA (Sergeant) and 1/333 FA (Lance) were nuke missile units. Had most of that data in my memory banks. My plan way back yonder was a nice piece of dirt, well beyond the projected impact/air burst range, dug into the side of a hill away from the threat axis. Sold that real estate for a tidy profit back in ’04 against my better judgment trying to make points with the final former ex Mrs. Yeah that’s another CF story in itself.

Since Firebase Magnolia is only about 20 air miles from Robins AFB current plan is to hope their targeting data is slightly off and I get to see the fireball flash just before I’m vaporized. If I’m lucky enough to be down at COP CRC Timber Ranch, the basement down there may save me long enough to die a lingering painful death from radiation sickness. You do know that there will be NO public announcement when the missiles are inbound, right?

I ain’t skeered, I’ve had a good run. Would be nice to have one hand wrapped around a frosty beverage and another wrapped around a Loved One when it happens.

Roh-Dog

Shoot, man! I knows you’s smart nuf about new-clear weapons, tho I didn’t remember about that CV you got there.

Your story goes back to the number two rule of having around the fairer sex, don’t listen to them about money things. Number one rule is: a bear could be better company, so don’t (unless you REALLY need to).

I could be wrong but theres no strategic presence on WRAFB, no? I knew BUFFs used to fly outta there back in the day, but what goes on there these days… idk.

The Russians have been getting good at quiet SSBNs with decent missiles systems that could be fired on a depressed trajectory. The intent of any attack would be to cripple a response and minimize fallout (which begs the question, how accurate ARE those hypers, and could they hit the command centers for our ICBMs? they are range limited….for now). An exchange would be pretty limited, a defangging as it were.

All that’s pure speculation on my part.

But this, “You do know that there will be NO public announcement when the missiles are inbound, right?”. That’s a whole lotta what ifs to answer that, but not being by a primary or secondary target, I’m sure the alert of giant flashes lasting tens of seconds followed by huge bangs will be a good ‘nuf warning to bunker. I’ve charts of flash-o-bang for my locale and the potassium iodide to prove the seriousness of our convictions (I don’t really have to worry about thyroid issues, but the missus…).

I hope those days never come, but iffn they do: may you be not thirsty and your non-beered hand be full of bawdy lass.

Robins is a Depot Level Body and Fender/Motor Shop now-a-days, but it is still a primary target. Lots of stuff stored there that go boom and they can land,/service anything the wingwipers have with very little notice. Buncha stuff gets parked there from other places when there’s nasty weather or other threats in other locales.

More concerned with an EMP Strike than a missile barrage. Also better prepared to survive an EMP strike. At least for a little while. Fuel for the generator, 90 day supply of food stuffs ect. ect.. Only thing I’m missing in an old pre-computer vehicle. Do wish my Baby Girl and the Grands weren’t 400 miles away in FL. Estimates of 90% casualties in FL if the grid goes dark for any length of time. Best case is week’s notice to get to NE kin, sho ’nuff hardsite out there. Considered liquidating all assets here and heading out, but them winters are cold and there are no peach trees.

Don’t think the commies really want to destroy us as a nation, they just want to destroy our way of life and have access to the breadbasket. One reason the missile fields were placed out in the midst of the midwest. The muzzies just want to kill us all. They will attack us from within. Bring it, mofos!

Fyrfighter

“They will attack us from within. Bring it, mofos!”

Correction KOB, they ARE attacking us from within.. see Talib, et al..

Funny how Sen(Deceased) John McCain had predicted this back in 2014! https://www.foxnews.com/politics/mccain-antony-blinken-dangerous-to-america

He said he could not support Anthony Blinken as Deputy Secretary of State because this would happen. Now he is Secretary of State and it does happen.

While I can not speak officially since I am not a spokes person, I can say that:
CENTCOM Planners and OFS (Replaced OER) planners put together a very detailed plan based on a best case and worst case scenario (basically what happened). An airborne Corps was identified to lead the effort along with subordinate Land Forces (from at least two separate Components) that would consist of quick entry forces, as well as follow on forces to either reinforce efforts or provide overwhelming firepower in the event it should be needed. Only those early entry forces are on the ground currently. The JTF and other forces are forming in theater. The military did our part…not so much the other parts of government.

Meanwhile life goes on in the CENTCOM AOR.

Ex-PH2, never crossed my mind. Just ensuring those that might be getting news from the media, that their active duty brethren are still performing despite the infusion of ideocracy from the top.

Yup, abandoned ANA gats and plate carriers at KIA… 18 AUG:

Joe’s handlers envisioned a political win with a complete withdrawal before the anniversary of 9/11.

To say this has backfired trivializes the enormity of the ensuing debacle, and they own this bitch.

Lap it up.

The last sentence of their letter to America:

“Joe Biden has the character, principles, wisdom, and leadership necessary to address a world on fire. That is why Joe Biden must be the next President of the United States; why we vigorously support his election; and why we urge our fellow citizens to do the same.”
