1 dead, another hurt after Poconos robbery victim fights back

SMITHFIELD TWP., Pa. – A man is dead after he and four others tried robbing someone in the Poconos Monday evening, police say.A group of five entered a home around 5:45 p.m. in the 900 block of McKinley Way in Smithfield Township to rob the person there, state police said in a news release.
The victim, a 26-year-old man, fought back and used a gun during the altercation, police said.
One of the assailants, a 23-year-old New Jersey man, was killed, police said. Another was seriously injured and three others, who are known suspects, fled the scene, authorities said.
Police did not release the name of the man killed.
The victim was injured but did not require medical treatment, police said.

Almost all the Poconos crime is New Jersey and New York turds.
Once a vacation spot, and then a retirement spot for many,
now all but a rural wooded and often gated shithole.
Yes, even behind the gates of less than luxury gated communities,
where (conveniently) township police do not patrol.
Ugh.

True. When we moved to the Poconos in 2001 the transition from vacation community to slum had started while mcmansions were being built everywhere.
As the finest people on earth moved from NY and NJ to the poconos it became a section 8 haven.
The change happened so fast that when we left we were stuck with the house.
Yay us. A house in Tobyhanna we can’t get rid off. Oh well…at least it is almost paid for.
There was literally no crime in 2001…now…don’t leave a chair on the patio…it won’t be there in the morning.

It was good to visit the depot, and then to leave the area.

That makes the Monroe County Homicide Rate roughly 50% higher than the US.
A lot of government money passed to communities is conditional on the local governments increasing housing opportunities for the poor. Denser zoning regulations, tax breaks for building Section 8 housing, and even school lunch programs; basically any action that empties slums into a nice areas. If local government supports the federal government’s policies- well, it’s a race to the bottom. Guess the dirt road the county paved with government money wasn’t such a great deal after all.
Trump eliminated a lot of these conditions. Oh well….

I still have my second one and it’s dated 1-86 on the pommel; looks just like the pin-up above. I must have gotten that issued while at Chejudo. We had a cool PBO at Cp. Hialeah who ordered boonie hats and Chippewa mountaineering boots for my guys; I was also able to get jungle boots issued as we were in a semi-tropical location.
I wish I still had my first Ontario survival knife — I had dyed the sheath and leather grip black and kept it on my LBE; dunno where that one went — probably lost it at the NTC in 1985 or gave it away in Japan after 1990. […sigh….] Wish I still had that one.
Nice knife — you don’t have to worry about damaging the blade; if you do, just go through channels and request another one. I’d do things with that knife that I wouldn’t do with my Randal or other knives.

My company was issued a whole case of them back in early 1971, but after we moved to Camp Reasoner in April and occupied the 1st Recon Battalion’s facilities in Da Nang, we inherited about 70+ USMC Ka-bars. Seems like most everyone on the LRRP teams wanted the Ka-bars rather than the flyboy survival knives.
Oh HELL yeah! I’d rather have a Ka-bar … especially if “inherited” from the USMC in-country!

I get chills watching that video. A more compliant victim would have been dead. That girl deserves a medal. There is no telling how many children’s lives she saved by helping capture that guy.
May he find himself in lengthy service to the state with everyone he serves with getting an opportunity to view the video.
