Memorial Day Open Thread

“Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust of the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” – Genesis 2:7
“And the dust returns to the earth as it once was, and the life breath returns to God who gave it.” – Ecclesiastes 12:7
One of the Latin words that describe “breathing” is “spiritus”, from which we get spirit. God infused his spirit into humanity, the spirit is life. Those that we remember, who are no longer among us, have returned to God and are experiencing true life.

Rode Vermont Thunder yesterday, about 200 miles.
The Veterans National Memorial Shrine & Museum at 2122 O’ Day Road had an amazing unveiling of a Vietnam Wall replica and the local community support.
A toast…
This Memorial Day I want to remember two heroes. A high school classmate and a shipmate. Remember their sacrifice:
John Kuehn, Spec 4, 3rd Bat. 502 Reg. 101st Airborne 12 Dec 1985
Roy Carmichael, SK3, S-1 Div. USS Kalamazoo 4 Jan 1987
Fair winds and follows seas
Also there on Arrow Air 1285 was SSG Steven Andreoff. We were best Buds in 1/15 IN at Kitzingen from 81-83.
R.I.P to all the fallen, we’ll take it from here.
A foggy grey day here, and have to drive the wife around, so I’ll miss the ceremonies, but I’ll be stopping by to visit a few flag markers and pay my respects.
And later this afternoon, a toast will be raised.
That such men lived.
Remember the fallen on this Memorial day Monday, May 31, and on Friday, May 31st 2013, the Houston TX Fire Dept lost 4 members when a building collapsed during fire fighting operations.
RIP CPL Victor Langarica. KIA 20 JAN 07.
I’m still pretty pissed, Vic. You weren’t supposed to be there. First beer’s on me.
To those, we have loved and lost in service to our country. Hand Salute.
Good day to just sit down and have a good cry.
It’s an Honor to Remember
The breeze ripples the flags on the pole. The announcements have been made and a solitary figure steps forward and inverts his sword, respectfully. Clutching a scrolled up paper, the Colonel clears his throat and begins to call out the gilded names of each one listed. He then goes on to explain; Memories have names.
These were our Friends, our Compatriots, our Brothers and Sisters in Arms. We have marched thru the Valley of the Shadow of Death together, sharing good times and bad. We have loved them and they loved us. They have been an important part of our life and now they are gone from our sight – yet they are with us still, waiting patiently in the dawn of each new day – waiting for us to join them. Today, it is an Honor to Remember….
“For none of us liveth to himself, and no one dieth to himself.” Romans 14:7
Be their Witness.
Say their Names.
It is your Duty to do so…It’s why you survived.

A few years ago I spoke with the soldier that relieved his
position and defended it as Scott lay next to him awaiting
daylight for evacuation.
His name was Scott Andresen and he was my childhood friend.
I checked out Scott Andresen and saw that he was born a month after my Sister.
RIP CPL Andresen.
To those we knew. To those we regarded fondly. To all the others, our brothers, our sisters, our cousins, our compatriots in arms. We salute you.
We do remember…
*Slow Salute*
My offering besides a Rosary for the fallen.
Great tune, keeps it in perspective…..
My late brother introduced me to this song almost 20 years ago. I haven’t listened to it much since he passed…maybe it’s time to listen to it tonight. Thanks for the post. It is much appreciated.
It’s on my YouTube songlist. Great tune !!!
And, you are welcome.
Major Richard P. Stewart II 22 Sep 1995 RIP Pat
Well, the Vietnam POW PHONIES are once again making their rounds.
Check out Mike Rick in the news article and the video from WPTA in Fort Wayne, Indiana:
“At Memorial Day Parade, Vietnam Veterans Share What They Lived Through”
https://wpta21.com/2021/05/31/at-memorial-day-parade-vietnam-veterans-share-what-they-lived-through/
Here is what he said:
“Rick was an 18-year-old infantryman in Vietnam.”
“I was taken POW and I escaped. And I spent 22 days wandering through Cambodia to make it back to the Vietnam side. And I was picked up by the 25th Infantry Division people, so I am forever in their debt,” he said.”
As one can see, there IS NO RICK listed as an Escapee:
https://www.dpaa.mil/portals/85/Documents/VietnamAccounting/pmsea_escapee.pdf
Have background information on him (DOB/Addresses/Business/Full Name, etc. etc.).
You Be The Judge.
GUILTY…of being a lying, embellishing POS.
Rope, scaffold, this POS…SAR (Some Assembly Required) Film at 11.
ps ninja…gabn/rtr/hbtd
Well, “Master Sergeant” Rick also said he has “several Purple Hearts to prove it.” At this point, don’t know how many several means, but that “several” will have to be at least nine or more to even get into the top three embellishers exposed on TAH claims as to total number of PH’s received.
So, prove it, Rick. Go Big or Go Home!!/s
KoB and Claw:
What cracks me up is what he said:
“And I was picked up by the 25th Infantry Division people…”
25th ID ‘PEOPLE’?
Is he serious?
Last time the ninja family served with the 25th, we served with 25th ID SOLDIERS…
Additionally, a Mike Rick or Michael Rick is NOT listed in this document:
https://www.axpow.org/vietnamescapes.pdf
Maybe he was picked up by that fearless WAC detachment of the 25th ID. I hear they were some bad ass people.
25th ID, baby.
Tropic Lightning.
Ninja – I am in FWA and can assist in anyway.
Neanderthal:
Thank You!
Found PI on him that IS public information, but currently am choosing NOT to advertise the public information on TAH.
Do know his age is 70 and that he has live in other places besides Indiana.
Any knowledge of him? Does he have or had a business that possibly went Bankrupt?
May contact the TV Station WPTA if they verified his status…however, am not holding my breath on getting an acknowledgment or reply.
Thank You again.
Ninja – if the admins will give you my email address, I GIVE PERMISSION, we can chat about moving forward on this F N bum.
The street address I found has him danger close to me.
Fucking idiots. He needs the shit beat out of him…
