Tragedy averted by an eagle-eyed sailor. Gun Bunny sends.

An alert Navy sailor, an Amber Alert baby and an uplifting ending

The sky was just lightening with a few snowflakes swirling as Petty Officer Devyn Drake stopped by her apartment mailbox early Wednesday morning and spotted something out of the corner of her eye, by an outdoors stairway.

It was a infant car seat. She walked over, and spotted 3-month-old Vanessa Varrios-Dasilva in it.

“My heart sank,” Drake said. “That sweet little baby out there in the cold.”

She rushed the infant to her warm apartment, where her own 5-month old son was sleeping, waiting for her to come home from her overnight shift at Airborne Command and Control Squadron 120 1/4 u2032s hangar on Naval Station Norfolk.

A little Happy Ending Story that we can all use lately. BZ to Petty Officer Devyn Drake…and she kinda sorta does look “devine!”

Just shows that Navy CAN BE good for something besides transporting Floating/Aerial Artillery Platforms, or just a pretty face, or gourmet cook, or herder of cats, or chaser of subs, or SAR details, or cheesy Hollywierd Motion Picture Shows, or, and most importantly, someone for (GO) ARMY to BEAT (NAVY) up on every December. *snerk* 😛

Well done Petty Officer Drake! Damned well done indeed. I cannot imagine the relief and peace you brought to this child’s family.

Now, I hope they catch the POS that stole the car and in doing so committed kidnapping.
