Man with No Face Covering Robs Restaurant

| February 5, 2021

A man, turned away for not wearing a mask, returned with a gun and took fried chicken, waffles, and syrup among other items. (Veronica Miracle/ABC7/Pasadena Now)

A couple of guys entered the restaurant. Employees informed the man, without a face covering, of the requirement for wearing a face covering at the restaurant. The man left. He returned with a gun. He proceeded to take food before departing. Fried chicken and waffles were among the food that he took.

From Pasadena Now:

The maskless man pulled a handgun, pointed it at an employee and “said something to the effect of, ‘What are you going to to about it?'” she said.

Police said the gunman then walked into the kitchen area, grabbed food items and placed them into a container. A total of four employees ran out of the store.

The robber was last seen exiting the front door of the store, Taglioretti said.

The only items initially believed to have been stolen were food, including the eatery’s trademark chicken and waffles, according to Grisafe. No injuries were reported.

The gunman was described as a Black man in his 30s or 40s, about 6 feet 1 inch tall and 180 pounds, with tattoos on his face and neck, police said. He had a light complexion, hazel eyes and curly black hair worn at shoulder length. He wore a green long-sleeve sweater and white sweatpants with black polka dots.

The second man who accompanied the gunman, but did not appear to actively take part in the robbery, was described as a Latino man between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 5 inches tall, about 150 pounds, with a shaved head. He wore a blue jacket and a blue face mask.

The Other Whitey

Well, we already knew we were in the Twilight Zone.

Seriously, who the hell eats chicken on their waffles? Some things just aren’t meant to go together.

I read about this yesterday. This is apparently a rather popular Southern dish. IIRC is even on the IHOP menu.

I had a bet with myself as to the hue of the waffle robber before I read the full report. Surprise, Surprise, Sgt. Carter!

The Other Whitey

I’ll take your word for it. The closest I’ve ever been to the South was Fairfax, Virginia.

Don’t get me wrong. Chicken is good. Waffles are good. But that doesn’t mean they belong on the same plate.

^WORD^ TOW!

Even the World Famous Southern Delicacies at the Waffle House don’t include Chicken and Waffles. You can get chicken (grilled) and you can get waffles…but not on the same plate.

Remember how you couldn’t walk into a bank wear a mask…or shades…or a cap?

Ditto. I can’t imagine putting syrup on fried chicken. But different strokes for different folks.

The pairing has been a thing for a long time at least in some parts of the country. Looks delicious though ymmv.

The pairing works really well.

The chicken is always fried (not grilled as one person postulated down above.)

It is customary to put a little bit of hot sauce on the chicken and a little bit of honey / syrup on the overall dish.

To say that it doesn’t work belies the idea that a fried chicken sandwich is not that much different. The bread is a little denser and perhaps not as sweet as the waffle, but people put hot sauce and honey on the chicken sandwich as well. The waffle is crisp on the outside and light on the inside.

You end up with a dish that changes spice levels and textures.

It is often served with greens and beans or black eyed peas as it is not a breakfast dish, but a lunch / dinner dish.

When prepared correctly, it is “slap yo’ mama” delicious.

I bet the perp was drunk and really waffled.

When arrested, tried and convicted, the perp with questionable taste in clothing and food, will be sentenced to 60 days in jail(suspended) for armed robbery, and two years for failing to wear a mask.

Had em. Meh. I get it, doing the sweet/savory thing. Kinda like the people who dunk their fries in their shakes.

Deckie

Everytime I see footage from robberies or assaults I can’t help but think how it’s 2021 and camera footage still looks like it was shot with a potato.

What gives?
