NRA declares bankruptcy, moving to Texas
Both Jeff LPH3 and the KoB send in word that the NRA, one of the country’s oldest civil rights organizations, is declaring bankruptcy. They have been headquartered in New York State, which has under the far-left, gift to funeral homes Governor Cuomo become increasingly hostile for the 2nd Amendment supporting association.
From WGN;
The National Rifle Association announced Friday it has filed for bankruptcy and will seek to incorporate the nation’s most politically influential gun-rights group in Texas instead of New York.
The announcement made on the NRA’s website comes months after New York’s attorney general sued the organization over claims that top executives illegally diverted tens of millions of dollars for lavish personal trips, no-show contracts for associates and other questionable expenditures.
The coronavirus pandemic has also upended the NRA, which last year laid off dozens of employees, canceled its national convention and scuttled fundraising. Still, the NRA claimed in announcing the move that the organization was “in its strongest financial condition in years.”
The NRA said it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in a Dallas federal court.
“The move will enable long-term, sustainable growth and ensure the NRA’s continued success as the nation’s leading advocate for constitutional freedom – free from the toxic political environment of New York,” the NRA said in a statement.
The gun-rights group boasts about 5 million members. Though headquartered in Virginia, the NRA was chartered as a nonprofit in New York in 1871 and is incorporated in the state.
I wish them luck in their new friendlier territory. Maybe if they ditch LaPierre their fundraising efforts would improve.

The NRA spends a fortune asking me for more money every two weeks.
They could spend it better by actually doing stuff.
Haven’t been a member in years, but I do wish them luck with their relocation.
More irony that an Organization that has its roots in the Grand Army of The Republic (Rooted to the Federal Army of the Potomac 1861-1865), FIRST (hr 2 TXNorsky) incorporated in NY, is Headquartered in Virginia (Capital of the Confederacy) now moving to Texas (whose Brigades stopped the Army of the Potomac in its tracks many times). How much change from the politicians of 1871 (Seymore and former Maj Gen of the III Corps Dan Sickles), the Tammany Hall crowd of “Boss” Tweed, and the grifting career politicians of today? Odd that? /s/
Get rid of LaPierre and myself and many others will start to shoot some funds your way again.
That’s exactly what I tell the telephone solicitors when they call for money.
La Pee-in-the-air has been there WAAAY too long. Ollie North saw the problems and called them out, so they dumped him.
^^^THIS^^^
Amen!
That’s what I sent them in an e-mail a few months back. The entire upper management needs an overhaul, and by overhaul I mean out of the organization so new folks can do the job. Been a life member since 76 and “upgraded” multiple times.
If it were not for the NRA our paper mills would go bankrupt as well.
Roger that on dumping LaPierre!!
Agree on dumping Le Pew, uh LaPierre and his cadre of sycophants.
But still glad they’re coming to Texas.
I suspect this is primarily a paper change in where their “official” incorporation site is. No real new Texas jobs, nothing to see. Chapter 11? Disappointing… it’s primarily a way for a company to screw its creditors.
Since the NRA filed a Chapter 11 BK, the unsecured creditors will get paid something. It is a re-organization BK, debts are not completely discharged.
LaPierre and Cuomo deserve eachother. But I look forward to a more Texan future nonetheless.
Mason,
Only slightly OT;
You came with a good line, “gift to funeral homes Governor Cuomo”.
I could see a series of memes around this;
“Funeral Directors For Cuomo”
(a picket line of funeral directors marching with signs) “We Love Cuomo”
Elegant it its simplicity.
Hey now! As a funeral director I resembke that remark! 😉
Lifetime member or at least I was. They keep sending me solicitations for more cash. I received a call last year asking to send 200 bucks to become a Patriot Lifetime Member. I told the man when Pepe Le Pew leaves call me then.
This is on all the gun blogs.
The great majority of responses echo those made here.
The corruption of Wayne Lapierre was called out by Oliver north and people are angry.
LaPierre is an albatross around the neck of the NRA, thousands of people are refusing to donate to the NRA and turn to gun owners of America and the Second Amendment foundation.
Until Wayne leaves, the NRA will be a shell of his former self
I really, really, really, really, really, really hope they do move their corporate headquarters to Texas (what’s the facility in Virginia? They need to get out of there also).
And when they move, set up shop in Austin.
The sounds of thousands of liberal’s heads exploding would be awesome!
The NRA is just incorporated in the state of New York and has offices there; the NRA headquarters and the NRA museum are in Fairfax, VA. The 149 year old NRA will likely re-incorporate in Texas.
Austin Texas. The last time I was in Austin Tx. was in 2010 for the National Hurricane conference and I didn’t see one person with a cowboy hat or boots but only white skinned whiter than printer paper college kids. I liked the brisket and the thick toast that came with it. I had a 9MM kidney stone in me at the time and it took a couple of days for the pain to stop after my Urologist stuck that camera up the old wazoooo to check it out. Kidney stone never bothered me for all the years it was there but blood in the urine and the x-ray showed the stone so the Doc says do you know how big 9MM is and I said Doc, I carry one which went over his head. Sorry to go off on a tangent again and I’ll run all the way home. Gee, sounds like a song.
To bad greed got the best of them
More liberals moving to Texas?
This ain’t good for the next elections.
