Clarification on Dick Cheney’s Speech

| May 21, 2009

I love Dick Cheney. But then I love anyone who makes the lefties piss all over themselves every time he decides he wants some entertainment. Remember when he was caught on mic telling Patrick Leahy to “go f**k yourself”? That was classic Cheney and made me admire him even more.

His speech today was a homerun but I have to clarify a small issue.

Cheney said:

Being the first vice president who had also served as secretary of defense, naturally my duties tended toward national security.

That’s true but not without a caveat.

A former Vice President did in fact later serve as Secretary of War which of course was the precursor to the modern Secretary of Defense.

He was Vice President from March 4, 1857 – March 4, 1861 in what could only be characterized as the only administration in history that was more disastrous than that of Jimmy Carter.

Later he was the 5th Secretary of War for the Confederacy under Jefferson Davis from February 6, 1865 – May 10, 1865; not exactly a high water mark for the Confederacy.

He was a disastrous Vice President and total failure as a Secretary of War. (Although somewhat more successful as a field General; see Battle of New Market)

He was John C. Breckenridge and he was a Democrat.

I never really cared for him too much. The one big thing that he said that I had groan about was saying that the insurgents are in there final days. I believe that was back in 06.

Thanks for the history lesson, COB. I like that I can come here and get not only entertainment from drooling moonbats, but informative discussion from staff and posters.

My mother has probably voted Dem almost as much as she’s voted Republican. When GW Bush was running for his first term she voted for him primarily because of Dick Cheney. Has was SECDEF when I was in and while I was playing in the sand during Desert Storm/Shield she said that whenever Dick Cheney gave a press conference he sounded calm, cool, and collected. It made her feel like everything was in complete control. I came home and she’s been a huge Cheney fan ever since….(shame on you if you thought I was gonna say “Dick fan”)
