Divers discover Nazi WW2 enigma machine in Baltic Sea
Commercial divers working the Baltic Sea for discarded fishing nets came across this. They initially thought it was a typewriter, but then remembered that at the end of WWII, this was where the Kreigsmarine ordered many U-boats to scuttle to prevent them falling into Allied hands. As part of that, the critical communications encryption devices were dumped overboard.
That’s exactly what they’d found. The Enigma Machine, probably the most famous of encryption devices ever. It’s now headed to a museum.

It was wrapped in a riddle.
Would be cool if they can get a serial number off it and match it to a particular u boat.
Hack must have fat fingered his previous comment when he posted from his cell phone, so he will repost.
The divers discovered the enigma wrapped in a riddle.
I thought the original comment was quite witty. If that was unintentional, it was well executed!
Can of WD-40, can of Rust-o-leum, a wire brush, and that thing will buff right out.
No telling what else is down there. Good “catch”! Did they find any of the nets that they were looking for? We gonna have a fish fry? TWBGCC on the menu? How about some cheese grits…with shrimps and bacon? Hush puppies? Cole slaw?
Pretty cool.
was going to buy an enigma machine from shotgun news back in the 70’s for a few hundred bucks. At that time, no one ever heard of it. Should have bought it along with a prison electric chair for the living room. Don’t know if shotgun news is the same anymore. They also had a jet plane pilots seat for sale.
Thank You for sharing the story, Mason.
Years from now, Divers will discover Dominion voting machines that were used in the 2020 Presidential Election that mysteriously disappeared…
I predict that when the machines are cleaned of their debris from the ocean or any body of water and are reprogrammed, that archeologists will discover President Trump DID BEAT Ole Joe, fair and square…
Just Saying…:)
I bought an enema machine once because the doctor told me to before surgery … didn’t like the looks of it!
Should have bought the one I saw at a yard sale…
