Detroit police sniper shoots barricaded gunman who terrorized hostage
Omar Abdel-Baqui
A barricaded gunman situation on Detroit’s east side ended Friday night after police shot the 42-year-old gunman, who took his girlfriend hostage Friday afternoon, Detroit Police Chief James Craig announced Saturday.A sniper on the Detroit Police Department Special Response Team fired a single shot as the gunman became increasingly violent and posed a serious threat to the hostage’s life, Craig said.
The gunman died at the hospital an hour later, according to police. The hostage survived with no serious injuries.
The incident stemmed from a mental health crisis the gunman suffered after not taking his medication for 48 hours, police said. He suffered from bipolar disorder and has a violent history.
Friday’s barricaded gunman situation is the 28th this year, Craig said Saturday. Half of those gunmen suffered from mental illness, he said.

Murder case dismissed against man who fatally shot Henderson teen
By Briana Erickson
The Clark County district attorney’s office voluntarily dismissed a murder complaint against an Army veteran in a rare decision and after a “full review of all the facts and circumstances.”District Attorney Steve Wolfson said in a statement that Edward Croaker acted in self defense when he shot and killed 17-year-old Kory Lino in the alley behind his house in December.
In the early hours of Dec. 12, Lino and another teen fired a pistol near Croaker’s Henderson home. Croaker told Henderson police at the time that he feared for his family and returned fire.

I always wanted to get SIG…they just always seemed more expensive!
I have a 10-year old SIG P220 that is as reliable as the sunrise. (Although my dream SIG is the old M1A1, that thing felt great in my hand!)
It’s big for an EDC, but if I ever need it for defense, I know that puppy will put them where I send them every time.
It is expensive, but IMHO worth every penny.
(Not to disparage the reliability of any other handgun, mind you – except the Walther PPKS, that was a piece of junk.)
Carried a sig 226 for 17 years as a highway patrolman. If I knew I was going to a gunfight it would be what I took. It’s just a little big for Texas warm weather.
I carried the P226 for 7 years, prior to retiring. Best pistol I ever fired.
Shoulda bougt it in one of the calibers Karl intended… a rimless one. There is a reason most good .22s are purpose-designed as .22s…them rims are tricky little beggars to adapt to. Note most good .22s have a steeper grip angle.
I like the fact that SIG is making their own CO2 pellet guns instead of letting some Air Gun company build them with their name on them. I may pick one up to plink with in the back yard and teach the girls to shoot.
Now that I am older and can afford a nicer gun, I may go back and look at various SIG platforms!
P226/228 my girls’.
It is good to know that the trash is still being taken out in Detroit.
It is also good to know there is no penalty for taking out the trash in Las Vegas.
From the Sig Article; “…the Browning locked breech short recoil system…”. It always goes back to the designs of the most Saintly John Moses Browning (Howitzer, be his name)!
Ahhhhh. Thanks for that pic, Ed. Brings back a lot of very fond memories. Got one of those. It survived the boating accident because, well, it’s just that kind of special.
Spent a week at the range learning how to use the thing. Best and most training I ever got for a firearm. The result being, it is probably the one with which I am most comfortable. And it is responsible for me being such a huge Sig fan.
Thanks, again, Ed, for the nod to Sig.
Meanwhile, good news on both counts of the above reported stories.
Thanks OWB.
We had a hostage situation in the greater GB AO the other day.
No one died, but it was a close thing:

WHAT!? No DAM DRT or WRT?
Someone is slipping in their duties and responsibilities. (/s)
Glad to read that all the hostages are safe and being taken care of.
The under-14-year old(s) he was continually sexually abusing is gonna need a lot of care, and unfortunately their Momma isn’t the brightest bulb in the box of rocks (to mix metaphors to make a point) according to someone I know who knows her.
It’s an all-around fuster-cluck in that family, I fear.
When will the jilted boyfriends learn? When the girl sez that “it’s over”, then it’s over. Time to move on.
Dude, she just wasn’t that into you. Unlike the bullet that killed you.
That’ll teach you to remember to take yer meds………..oh….wait……
