Two more charged in destruction of statue of Col. Heg in Wisconsin

Colonel Hans Christian Heg Memorial statue

KoB sends in word that two more have been charged with destroying the statue of Colonel Hans Christian Heg, 15th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment, who died of wounds sustained while fighting in the Civil War after the Battle of Chickamauga. Heg was a Norwegian immigrant, a staunch abolitionist, and raised the 15th Wisconsin Volunteers himself at only age 32 largely from Scandinavian immigrants.

Heg died fighting for black lives, so naturally the Black Lives Matter movement’s mostly peaceful rioters took issue with the Civil War-era colonel’s statue on June 23rd.

Prosecutors charged two more men Wednesday with damaging property for allegedly helping topple two statues on the Wisconsin Capitol grounds during a June protest against police brutality and racism.

The Wisconsin State Journal reported that 21-year-old Sasha Clemente and 27-year-old Jacob Capps, both of Madison, each face two counts of being a party to felony criminal damage to property. Police said surveillance footage shows both of them helping to pull down statues of abolitionist Hans Christian Heg and Forward, a sculpture of a woman that symbolizes the state’s motto, on June 23.

Arrest warrants were issued for both men on Wednesday, online records show. The records did not list attorneys for either of them.

Prosecutors charged Marquon Clark in August with criminal damage to property after surveillance video allegedly showed him helping tear down the statues. Clark faces federal charges for allegedly firebombing the Madison-Dane County government building that same night.

According to court documents, Clemente could be seen on video fastening a rope to a vehicle that pulled down the Heg statue. Capps could be seen pulling on a cable to topple Forward and about 20 minutes later tried to attach a chain to the vehicle that pulled down Heg.

Police identified Capps after discovering he was a passenger in a vehicle that tried to ram a Madison police car on June 30.

The board that approves state Capitol repairs overwhelmingly agreed in July to restore both statues. The board didn’t have any cost estimates then and a state Department of Administration spokeswoman didn’t respond to an email seeking an update.

The June 23 demonstration was part of a series of protests that shook downtown Madison for days following the May 25 death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Floyd, who was Black and handcuffed, died after a white police officer pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck for several minutes despite Floyd’s pleas for air. The violence on June 23 erupted after Madison police arrested a Black protester who was entering downtown businesses wielding a baseball bat.

The State Journal reported that more than 40 people have been charged with various felonies related to damage or looting during the protests so far.

Thanks to KoB for sending this one in. We must have missed the charging of the first two BLM “protestors”.

  1. Hack Stone says:

They managed to identify the people who perpetrated these crimes, and yet the four classic white frat boys who splashed lighter fluid on Althena Bernstein and setting her on fire are free. Hack Stone is getting whiplash from shaking his head.

    • David says:

If at none of the other gigantic holes in her story, I wonder how she was able to describe the pants on all four of the alleged attackers seated in the adjacent car? X-ray vision in color?

      • USAFRetired says:

In the timeline the popo posted it included a text from her saying they were walking.

        • 5JC says:

In the videos the popo posted the most interesting part was her driving through town unimpeded with absolutely no on foot in the area. It is interesting because that is all that happened.

    • rgr769 says:

I find it interesting that the burns she received while driving her car are on the right side of her face. What did the “frat boy” do when he supposedly splashed her with lighter fluid, get in the front seat with her? I call a Smullet on this supposed hate crime.

  2. Skippy says:

Well I’ll believe this after people are sitting in jail

    • KoB says:

^WORD^ It is a start. Our groups are monitoring and trying to track the status of all of the destroyed or vandalized War Memorials. It is a daunting task to keep up with. So many of these reports are either NOT published nationally, or, are buried so deeply they don’t show up in a casual search or news feed. A lot of it is strictly local news and the ultimate cost of all of this is going to fall upon the taxpayer, and that is only if the Memorials are repaired/replaced. And it is NOT cheap.

If any of you see local articles on this subject, in your areas, please make a comment and attach a linky so we can add it to the data base. Here’s a quick reference on the history of the 15th Wisconsin. You have to Pay Honor to the Warrior, even if you don’t Pay Honors to the War.

      • Skippy says:

I sent one to you folks about a civil war
Monument that was destroyed up in Santa Fe New Mexico ask Ed about it
It’s started a shit storm here and people
On both sides are Mad as hell about it

        • KoB says:

Thanks Skippy, yeah we on this, and the ones in Glorieta Pass, too. Our History, warts and all, MUST be preserved and protected, especially the War Memorials. We are guarding a number of them thru-out the country, either in person or with cameras, however, we’re getting 0 (ZERO) co-operation from the politicians. The Sante Fe Case is just another example of will destruction allowed by the powers that be.

You notice that you haven’t seen any good ol’ boys riding around in their pick up trucks tearing down MLK or oblowme or Lenin Statues?

Some may know of the saying that’s been going around for many years now, something to the effect; “…when they came for this group I didn’t speak up, or that group, or the other group, because it wasn’t me they were after. Now that they have come for me, there is no one to speak up at all.”

  3. HMCS(FMF) ret says:

Hans Christian Heg had bigger balls then the protestors that took his statue down.

  4. The Other Whitey says:

Vandalism against Confederate monuments could be chalked up to ignorance, and could still be said to indicate good, though extremely misguided and immature, intentions. Vandalism against monuments to men who sought racial equality, often at the cost of their own lives, negates all of their propaganda and shows just how little they care for the cause they claim.

  5. Graybeard says:

It’s not about justice – even in the twisted sense some libtards have.

It is about totally erasing all history, so that The Narrative is the only thing.

    Orwell foretold it all.

  6. Thunderstixx says:

I come from a line of staunch abolitionist relatives that fought and died in the Civil War and I am proud of that heritage.
These punks that pull these things down should be forced to clean toilets in Pilot Truck Stops, for free every day for five years…..
They will learn a lesson, well deserved…
Give them the lesson, good and hard…..

  7. Anonymous says:

Left/libtards can’t tell the difference between sides in the Civil War. Heg probably just looked like Robert E. Lee (sorta, anyway) and that was enough.

    • OWB says:

The thugs that did this are just exercising their right to be racist – anyone from any age they presume to be as racist as they are. They are wrong, of course, but they refuse to be influenced by simple truths. Judging folks by the color of their skin isn’t racist when they do it, of course.

  8. Mike Gunns says:

In my AO, our confederate statue and cannon now has a barbwire fence around it with warning signs. Some idiot decided to chain himself to the statue in protest to have it taken down. I can’t link on my phone, but it was in Oconee County, SC a few months ago.
