First ‘Narco-Submarine’ Caught After Crossing the Atlantic

| October 19, 2020

You thought these smugglers were ballsy transiting the Caribbean in their little subs. These guys crossed the Atlantic! Arriving in Spain, they were nabbed by the authorities.

In a craggy bay here early one morning last year, police watched three men clamber from the hatch of a curious vessel barely breaking the surface of the Atlantic Ocean.

The 66-foot craft slowly sank as the men swam ashore, where officers grabbed two of them. Police struggled for two days to tow their waterlogged quarry to port, where they found roughly 3 metric tons of cocaine onboard, worth some $100 million.

For the first time, they had captured a formidable vessel in drug runners’ flotilla: a trans-Atlantic “narco-submarine.”

South America is awash with cocaine, and traffickers are turning to new ways of getting it to Europe, which the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration says may have surpassed the U.S. as the world’s largest market.

So if they’re bringing in drugs, because of the high value and potential for massive pay off, what else are they bringing in for the (person/gov/entity etc) that can write the biggest check?

Ex-PH2

That title somehow translated itself into “Nork Submarine Crosses Atlantic”.

Not enough caffeine.

Hack Stone

The USS Hunter Biden pulls into port.

26Limabeans

And the FIRST thing it does is sink.

Combat Historian

Was Big Navy able to squeeze in some submariner training into Hunty’s two week fork and knife school before he was kicked to the curb for pissing red hot…?

26Limabeans

“Pop” was hoping he would become another John Kerry.
Kerry though would never let those perfect teeth get
anywhere near Meth even with that giant nose.

AW1Ed

Doubtful at best, CH, and I get the sarcasm. Hunter received an age waiver and a direct commission as a reserve PAO. He lasted an entire month before pissing hot for Bolivian Marching Powder.

A complex warfighting skill like ASW requires an odd mix of science and art, and takes years to master.

Combat Historian

I assume for a two-week fork and knife school, the direct commissionees will receive a one hour course of instruction on submarines by being shown pictures of submarines, followed by short video snippets from “The Hunt for Red October”…

Quartermaster

Hey now! The Hunt For Red October was a very good training film.

Hack Stone

Hack heard that he was a double waiver, one for age and the other for prior drug usage. Pretty sad when Naval Reserve Public Affairs has to lower their standards that far to get a warm body. If Hack Stone ever disgraces the Stone Family name by being kicked out of the military for drug abuse, he would still have Pappa Stone’s boot up his ass. If Joe Biden thought that maybe Hunter just needed a firm hand in leading him down the right path, why didn’t he just send him to Valley Forge Military Academy? That would make for a great movie, the Vice President is embarrasses by his 40 something slacker son, so he ships him off to a military school. Hilarity ensues.

Combat Historian

Yeah, Joey would show up at Valley Forge to visit his worthless son, and then get distracted when he started groping and sniffing the hair of the pre-teen female cadets…

One has to wonder where the 200 million dollar shipment’s boat landed? Prolly made port while all the po po was hunting for these dudes. Then got re-fueled from a Ukrainian Gas Company Tender.

Hack Stone

Anyone know har far it is from Aldan Spain to Burma Corporate Headquarters in The Ukraine?

Cameron

About 2,358.104 miles or 3,795 kilometers from Aldan, Spain to Kiev, Ukraine. Estimated time of arrival would be 39 hours with no traffic if you were to travel by car according to Google Maps.

Quartermaster

The “sub” could take the Dnepr river all the way to Kyiv. The lock masters might look at you a bit funny, tho.

Devtun

Here is a non paywall article. Based on the date, this looked like it happened almost a year ago.

Why the frak are we letting foreign submarines survive in US waters?

Turn the Navy loose.

Or, put some of those ASW and sub assets under USCG cool, and -then- sink them.

Quartermaster

The Coasties are supposed to be able to handle ASW.

Sapper3307

Extra Long range or deployed from mother boat?
#2 me think

Combat Historian

Sinaloa Cartel’s version of a WWII Japanese midget sub piggybacked for most of the trip aboard an IJN mother vessel…

Sapper3307

The NORK’s have some neat ones also.

Hack Stone

That’s not cocaine, it is baking powder.

Ex-PH2

Thar she blows!!!!!

26Limabeans

GEN-X grownups? Gawd I feel old.

Looks similar to the Remco Barracuda motorized atomic submarine that came out in the early 1960s (the design appeared to have been based of the USS Nautilus). Although the Barracuda was much larger, had a battery powered motor (activated by turning the periscope), a removable transparent plastic top so the inside was viewable and allowed for the placement of 25 plastic crew figures, rotating propellers, flashing lights, working alarm, 6 or 7 Polaris missiles (four can fit in the submarine) that launched automatically, and six launch-able torpedoes with four torpedo tubes and a torpedo rack for storing extra. Remco also made a toy version of the submarine Seaview from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea that aired from 1964 to 1968.

I say, the Navy needs real-world target skills and these are perfect opportunities. Think about it, these are not your “Run Silent, Run Deep” kind of subs. They are noisy, smelly, and probably leave an oil slick. So depth charge them, torpedo them, lay the 5″ gun or Phalanx on them or, just run the sons of bitches over.
