POLICE: Car lot owner chases down, shoots suspects who stole car from his business
by Gerald Tracy
Is it self-defense to chase down and shoot alleged vehicle thieves? This is the question Dallas police officers are contemplating after an early Thursday morning shooting.
Police tell us they were called out to the shooting around 1:30 a.m. in the 8800 block of Old Homestead Dr. in southeast Dallas.
There, they found the owner of La Pulga de Autos, a car lot in town. The owner said he saw suspects steal a vehicle from his lot, just under two miles from where he shot them.
After witnessing the theft, the owner told police he chased them down and shot at them, hitting one in the arm. The suspect shot was taken to the hospital.

Nope, don’t think that chasing perps a coupla miles down the road and shooting at them is classified as self defense, but then again, I’m no lawer.
Good on the LAPD for taking out the trash before someone got hurt. May never know why this nut decided to hold a weapon on 4 people. If we’d of had 2 unarmed Social Workers show up, the perp, uh uh, Good Citizen, would still be alive. And there would be 6 other people dead.
“…capable of hosting a 40mm under the barrel grenade launcher and other useful tactical accessories.” FINALLY!!!! An assault rifle with a factory installed mount for a chainsaw bayonet…and a pizza oven.
OK, you saw it here FIRST, Girls and Boys/’weedettes and ‘weeds. I have got to head into the bigger town for a provision run and check on FOB Elizabeth sometime today. I may and/or may not be gone and back before the dropping of the TAH Friday Weekend Open Thread. Even if I do get back, my intention is to hide with The Bush (and Josey Wales’ Red Bone Hound) and observe the fight for the Coveted EARNED NEVER AWARDED Tah Friday, Weekend Open Thread FIRST. The Crown will be a’laying in plain sight and may the best (go army) weedette/weed (beat navy) win.
The correct legal answer to the question posed is no, one is never justified in using deadly force soley to stop the theft of property. That has been the law since back before my law school days in the late ’70’s. So far as I am aware, no state’s laws allow for the use of such deadly force. However, one is privileged to threaten deadly force to protect property, even when not entitled to use it. And I used to be a lawer.
So did the Police recognize the individual who had warrants out for his arrest (armed robbery and assault with a weapon) or did they take it apon themselves to intervene in the friendly discussion about the proper stance for firing a pistol?
That first one is a doozy! I guess it depends if he had chased them down to ask them if they wanted the upgraded undercarriage protection or VIN etching, and they pulled a gun on him or he just drove up and started shooting?!!
First, I apologize. Before people get upset that I looked at something, I was only wondering if the provided link had more information.
I know how hard it is to run a site. I help on one and write for others, so I know how difficult it is to make content as well as how easy it is to post something that may not be right.
Please forgive my bringing this up.
For the first story – the one about the car lot owner shooting a person – the “CBS Local” link goes to a story out of Tampa on Local CBSNews with an incident of “Biracial Statesboro Man Charged In Fatal Shooting Of White Teen Claims Self-Defense.” The incident took place in Tampa.
Could it be that (if you are like me and have 30 tabs on a browser open) the wrong link was posted?

Feel free to delete my comment because I don’t want to come off as being a jerk. Okay, more of a jerk than I am. 😉
Who cares? We still have one out of the gene pool and another on the way if he keeps his current life choices the way they are???
More range time people,
More range time!!!!
The car thieves steal a car and from the car lot and the car lot chases them down and shoots one perp in the arm. To me that’s a Bad shoot. He shot the perp after the crime was committed and his life was in no danger.
May be off topic, but the depression is kicking the living shit out of me. Only leaving the house to get groceries for Dad, and it takes me days to get over that.
