The National Guard team that rescued hundreds trapped by the Creek Fire

| September 11, 2020

The National Guard team that rescued hundreds of people trapped by the Creek Fire over the weekend discussed the life-saving mission’s tense moments.

Crews of the CH-47 Chinook and UH-60 Black Hawk said they took women and children out first as the flames continued to burn closer to the Mammoth Pool Reservoir in the Sierra National Forest.

Eggs sends.

Inside the National Guard’s Daring Rescue of Hundreds from a California Wildfire

California Army National Guard aircrews worked through the night Sept. 5, 2020, to rescue 214 trapped campers from a wildfire.
By Richard Sisk

More than 200 campers were trapped near a boat dock on Shaver Lake in California’s Fresno County over the Labor Day weekend, encircled by flames and a blinding wall of wildfire smoke.

Chief Warrant Officer 5 Joseph Rosamond, piloting a California Army National Guard CH-47 Chinook, had already made the decision to try to put his helicopter down close by the desperate campers.

So had CWO 5 Kipp Goding, pilot of a California Guard UH-60 Black Hawk, who had linked up with Rosamond’s aircraft and was trailing him to the scene, weaving through peaks rising to 7,000 feet and then dropping down to a valley leading to the dock.

“We were quickly running out of time,” Rosamond said.

Emergency crews on the ground from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire, radioed to Rosamond that it was too risky. The Creek Fire in the Sierra National Forest was out of control and they should put down at a nearby ranch miles away and wait for the smoke to clear, they were told.

“I was listening to the radio calls when the Chinook approached restricted airspace” near the lake, said Army Maj. Gen. David S. Baldwin, adjutant general of the California National Guard.

“Chief Rosamond told them, ‘Just tell us where the people are. We’re going to go get them,'” Baldwin said in a video conference call Monday with the aircrews and defense reporters.

Fleabag shits like him make me all in favor of reinstating punishments like the Pillory and horse whipping.

No surprise there. Arson is a “general intent” crime, meaning an arsonist can’t claim that they didn’t mean to hurt anyone. This shitbird should go down for a few thousand counts of attempted murder on top of everything else.

Another thing: arson is somewhat difficult to prove with physical evidence, and very difficult to connect physical evidence to a perpetrator. This is why it is considered the crime of a coward. No wonder Lars’s klan is into it now.

Making fire season out west worse.

“…just tell us where the people are. We are going to go get them.” In a f**king Chinook! The people the Chiefs and their crews picked up probably weighed less than the balls of these troops. Something tells me that these Cali NG Troops are not part of any unit that Larsi and his PantyFa bois are in.

BZ to these Warriors. I’ve been following this story for several days now. Loves me a Happy Ending.

11B Thanks for your linky to the SOB that got caught setting fires. Saw another blurb at 0Gawd30 that gave a number in the neighborhood of 50 that had been deliberately set. The Dip Shatted Spapos Seagull is still over on the other thread screeching ORANGE MAN BAD and that reports of fire set are nothing but right wing cultness. Somebody (rgr769?) made mention that Major Moonbat wouldn’t know a certain something if it reached up and bitched slapped him. I’d sure like to be FIRST in that line. Be a long wait if you got there late.

And the Democraps want the rest of us to not have any way to protect ourselves from scumbags like that?

If you think you want a revolution, be careful what you wish for.

Democrats’ idea of “gun safety” is that the people their side attacks don’t have any.

OUTSTANDING video clip!! Thanks for posting it.

I was up at and around Mammoth Pool for the French Fire back in 2014. That’s some steel country full of heavy timber, and the roads in there suck. Spent six days up there, really got our firefight on during our second 24 on the line.

These chopper crews pulled off some kickass flying, and deserve recognition. It’s high altitude with corresponding performance degradation, squirrely crosswinds, 150-foot timber, and the fire was close enough to significantly affect the environment in terms of visibility and air conditions. Very, very high risk. You all know the rules better than I do, but I would think some Soldier’s Medals oughta be in order.

Absolutely concur on Soldier’s Medals. Plus free booze in any bar in America. Outfuckingstanding work!

Roger. Thank you.

When a mythical CW05 appears leading the rescue effort, you know two things at that moment: you really are in a dire situation and that you are going to be alright. 😉

HOOYAH, Well Done.

Graybeard

Proud of these guys.

I don’t know them, but I know their brothers in AB son’s Army NG unit – and they’d do the same thing if they had to.

OldSoldier54

Well done, Cali NGs!
