Service Member’s Belongings Auctioned by Storage Company
A storage company auctioned off the belongings of a service member while he was deployed. A dresser built by his great-grandfather, his grandfather’s military metals, and items that belonged to a cousin that was killed in action, were among the items that were auctioned off. The lawyer, for the service member, argues that this violated the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act.
From the Army Times:
On Feb. 5, 2019, Cornacchio authorized the company to charge his credit card $2,190.64, which included $300 for storage. The company acknowledged in writing that he had paid the money, according to the lawsuit.
The contracts he signed for the two storage vaults gave the company a storage lien on his property in exchange for his agreement to pay for the moving and storage for the six months he was deployed to Qatar. The company moved his belongings on Feb. 5, 2019, from his home at Hanscom AFB. Cornacchio was present and wearing his Air Force uniform while they were packing and loading, according to the lawsuit.
Five months later, on July 8, 2019, the company auctioned off the entire contents of those two storage vaults.
Officials at PRTaylor Enterprises did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The Justice Department is seeking damages for Cornacchio, including the value of the items that were auctioned off. A spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Boston said the value of the items has not yet been determined.

Sad.
This sounds like some All-Points Logistics shit.
BOHICA!
Wonna bet some turkey mixed up the storage units, and auctioned off the wrong unit.
Happened to us…sold my unit and I found out two months later when I get a check for the difference of the person’s bill and auction price…
Had the unit eight years…
I did get a We are so sorry…
They violated the terms of their own agreement?
They sold his shit five months into a six month agreement?
Rat fucks should owe this kids tens of thousands of dollars…
I’ll be sharing the name of this company with my several hundred Massachusetts followers on social media..
Hopefully they get the Karma they deserve…
Given how they auctioned off items that were in his Family for multiple Generations, I’d say he ought to go after them for at least a six digit sum!
Word.
If you ask me, rat fucks better track down everything they sold and get it all back, out of their own pockets on pain of grand theft charges for all involved in this shitshow. If the purchaser resold something, they better track that shit down. On top of that, pay him the full value of everything in there, and then some.
This needs to really, REALLY hurt! Make an example!
“Medals”, not “metals”.
Hopefully this airman is about to own a storage company.
There are any number of ways that an innocent mistake could have been made initially. There had to be multiple conscious negative decisions which allowed his items to actually be auctioned off.
Stupid. Really, really stupid.
Whenever I watch “Storage Wars” I think of the sad story of who owned the locker that is never told.
I don’t … only because I don’t believe any of the storage units or the “treasures” within … were ever owned by anyone except the show’s producers.
Beginning to sound like a common occurrence.
Found this on the same news site:

Many years ago an Airman deployed overseas and while he was gone the town
sold his land because he failed to pay the tax bill he did not get.
The selectmen bought the land amongst themselves.
He sued. The case went all the way to the US Supreme Court and was
decided in the Airmans favor. I knew his attorney. Vietnam vet.
The Airman ended up owning that small Maine town.
I would rather not name the town but some of you lawer types can
probably find the case on line somewhere. It was in the early 90’s.
Deployed persons have rights.
Had a local storage facility call me once when I was wearing the 1SG hat, had a deployed Soldier that was two months delinquent on his fees. I told the man he was deployed and I’d get it sorted out. He was more than willing to work things out, turned out to be the Soldier had changed debit cards and hadn’t updated everything. Storage facility owner didn’t hesitate to call me after that if there were any payment issues with Soldiers, bent over backwards to work out issues. There’s still a few good folks out there.
Bastards! Replacement items or “fair market value”? Mule Muffins! Those are personal irreplaceable items that, YOU!, the Company, willfully disposed of.
People/companies try to get away with sh^tbaggery because they know if they are caught the punishment, if there is any, will be a slap on the wrist, if that.
