Suspected Foul Play Victim PFC Vanessa Guillen Remains’ Found
PFC Vanessa Guillen
Guillen, a 20-year-old private first class in the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, was last seen April 22, at a Fort Hood parking lot. Her car and barracks room keys, identification card and wallet were found in the armory room where she was working the day she disappeared, Fort Hood officials have said.
Before Guillen went missing, she informed her family that she was being sexually harassed by one of her sergeants at Fort Hood. She did not identify the man by name.

Vanessa Guillen’s body found, fellow Fort Hood soldier killed self, another suspect in custody: family lawyer
The suspect was identified as a fellow soldier who fled Fort Hood on foot
By Danielle Wallace
A lawyer representing the family of Vanessa Guillen, a 20-year-old soldier reported missing from a U.S. Army base in Texas in April, said Wednesday they’re demanding accountability after it appears her body has been found and a suspect killed himself.
The attorney, Natalie Kahwam, referred to a suspect — identified by officials as a fellow soldier who fled Fort Hood on foot Wednesday morning and reportedly shot and killed himself as local police and federal marshals closed in on him at a home in Killeen, Texas.
Another suspect — identified only as the estranged wife of a former Fort Hood soldier — was taken into custody and awaits charges in connection to Guillen’s disappearance.
“We believe that her remains were found,” Kahwam said in a press conference in Washington, D.C. “We believe that the suspect had killed himself in the morning. And that, unfortunately, does not provide us much information about how this happened, why this happened. About why a beautiful young soldier is not with us today.”
Killeen Police said in a statement that its officers, U.S. Marshals in the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and investigators with the Fort Hood Criminal Investigation Division located the suspect in the 4700 block of East Rancier Avenue in Killeen around 1:29 a.m. Wednesday.
“As officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, the suspect displayed a weapon and discharged it towards himself. The suspect succumbed from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” the press release said.
“The person who took his own life earlier today in Killeen after being sought by Killeen police and federal marshals was a soldier from Fort Hood and had fled the base earlier in the day,” U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command said in another statement Wednesday. “A civilian has been arrested in connection with Vanessa Guillen’s disappearance. The civilian suspect is the estranged wife of a former Fort Hood Soldier and is currently in custody in the Bell County Jail awaiting charges by civilian authorities.”

Sad and pointless. There seems to be a lot of that going around this year.
Rest in peace, soldier!
“The person who took his own life earlier today in Killeen after being sought by Killeen police and federal marshals was a soldier from Fort Hood and had fled the base earlier in the day.” ~ U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command statement.
More than likely the soldier who committed suicide was the same soldier who sexually harassed and murdered PFC Guillen.
RIP PFC Vanessa Guillen
Or he knew something and failed to report it. Who knows.
Prayers up for the family. The anger and other emotions for them must be pretty close to unbearable. May all their questions be answered as soon as is possible. May they soon find some sort of peace. We hope that knowing they have a lot of anonymous folks like us praying for them offers some comfort along their journey of grief.
RIP Soldier.
Many of us feared that this would be the outcome when we discussed PFC Guillen in an earlier thread/comment. Connection between this and the other soldier whose remains were found nearby the other day? Guess that looking for more evidence in that case led to this discovery.
Had seen this story earlier, figured one of the usual suspect would be posting the story. Was on Fox and a Bing feed. At that point in time, the comment section was not open yet. I see from this linky that it didn’t take long for the Trump and the Military haters to show up in the comments. For the love of all that is decent why can’t people just leave all of that out of the conversation and offer up, if not prayers for the Family and this victim, at least a kind thought for her to Rest in Peace.
God’s Peace bring His Comfort to the Family and her Compatriots.
Amen.
Unfortunately those without compassion will ‘never let a crisis go to waste’ – but hopefully they will be drowned out by those who still have some humanity left.
This is tragic and infuriating. Soldiers preying on their own, possibly even subordinate. This kind of stuff makes me hope there is a hell.
Knock me over with a feather…..
There is a God.
There is a Lake of Fire prepared for the Devil and his angels, into which sinners shall also be cast.
That is terrible enough for me to wish no one would choose to go there, yet many do.
Amen
This is a sad and tragic event. I pray for her family’s peace and comfort.
Seems to this uninformed observer appropriate authorities did all they could to return the soldier. There is always a “rest of the story” but true to form, the deceased soldier’s sisters are demanding a “Congressional” investigation. Investigate what? I’ll wager the family had inside information they did not share. Am I the only one here who believes in this “person’s” 2020 Army, a small female being sexually harassed by another soldier much less a sergeant has no recourse. This did not pass the smell test when it occurred and I’ll wait for all of the details.
It’s far beyond anything you have read…..
And I won’t say anything else about it, but let’s just say I personally know of the circumstances in depth…..
And what you read here or anywhere is but the top layer of the cesspool…..
And it’s very deep, very deep…..
Please tell.
Why is SHARP not working in Hood, when it does work everywhere else?
Was the victim voluntarily involved in some nasty stuff? Involuntarily?
Well, when the post SHARP is busted for running a prostitution ring…
Dayumn
Oh, is that frowned on? Nobody told me.
A report I read yesterday indicated the IG was descending on Ft Hood in force. I expect many may heads to roll once they get going.
Carpets are very lumpy there, as they say.
SHARP doesn’t work everywhere else, at least in the Navy. I’m not saying there is rampant bad activity but my last couple of years in I saw it fail miserably in one instance despite me attempting to use article 138. I went that route because the SHARP route didn’t work.
My complaint got kicked to the curb because I was speaking on behalf of a service member who was intimidated into keeping her mouth shut.
The offending POS was never held accountable until a few years later when he tried his shit on an officer.
While I’m sure there’s plenty more to the story, I wouldn’t be shocked if the current narrative isn’t at least partially true.
Thunderstixx,
I respect the need to keep confidence.
I’m seeing some stuff on other webpages, but don’t know how much to believe.
Sounds like some serious work needs done there.
It’s beyond anything you could possibly imagine…
I’ll leave it at that…..
Well, here’s hoping that someone gets to the bottom / puts a stop to this shit, and prayers to the friends and families of all involved.
I personally witnessed (investigated)
crap oddly similar to this in Iraq
The whole leadership of a company was sacked
And other heads fell too it’s a long story
But it made stars and strips in 2009-2010
It was a complete cluster fuk
Thank you, always nice to have one of our own with the correct information.
Stixx, I’m supposing you’re referring to the prostitution ring being run by a bunch of “minority” NCO’s. Just before I read your comment Miz Poe had informed me that Guillen’s killer was a black NCO and that there is much web conversation (Poe doesn’t do social media) that the military and the media are trying to suppress that information, which is, of course, SOP when the perp is a person of color.
Wish you could be more forthcoming but I respect your discretion.
Prostitution ring? Using soldiers as the rent-a-slaves? By the NCOs?
I would personally hammer the nails through their flesh into their crosses.
-gleefully-
-slowly-
11B… Can I help? I gots a real nice 28 oz Estwing knurled head claw that is brand damn new. Also got a 3 pound “line hammer” (mini sledge) that we used to drive heavy duty hardware into telephone poles.
Sad…a promising life ended and someone in need of help that won’t get any.
Ft Hood, the grate place…
Sounds similar to the Marine who killed the female Marine, tried to dispose of her body in his backyard fire pit, and fled to Mexico. Whatever happened to that guy?
Unfortunately, some people in the NCO and SNCO look at new females joining the command as conquests that they need to bag. I’m pretty that these women’s fathers did not allow their daughters to enlist in order to be exploited alcoholic “leaders” with three bad marriages in their immediate past. And the leadership in these units turn a blind eye to this malfeasance. You can expect the Company Commander and 1st Sgt to be relieved, as well as the Battalion Commander and Sgt Maj.
Daughters older than 18 do not need the permission of their fathers to join the military.
Yes, they are legally to enlist without a waiver at the age of 18, but most responsible fathers go above and beyond to protect their daughters.
When you ask people about your 1SG and get “Oh, that son-of-a-bitch– is he still f*cking lieutenants?” you know things aren’t going to go well.
Blood and Steel, young private. Rest in peace.
Working at the “Great” Place currently (okay, teleworking thanks to COVID19) and there’s been a rash of deaths there recently.

Wonder if proximity to the border / cartel involvement is part of the situation?
Fort Hood isn’t particularly close to the Mexican border (about 250 miles air distance). Perhaps you’re thinking about Fort Bliss (near El Paso and about 3 miles from the Rio Grande)?
Well, along a major highway, and in terms of the cartels, that’s close enough, but yes, my geography was a bit off Hondo, I was thinking of Fort Blister…
Yup, Hell Paso…
in spite of not being close to the border, cartels, illegals, drug running and trafficking are all problems in the central texas area.
It’s I 35’s proximity I think.
Heaven only knows if there is a common thread through all of those deaths or just a coincidence. I know in my time, there were ongoing problems at some bases with Sailors being affiliated with gangs – that may be the issue here.
RIP to those that have lost their lives.
I retired about 10 years ago. The common theme I saw was a basic lack of moral fortitude. Too many Sailors turn a blind eye because it isn’t happening to them.
As one of the best Chiefs I ever had said “When someone asks for your loyalty what they really need is your integrity.”
Senior Chief, we had urban gang activity (LA Latinos) in my Airborne unit at Fort Campbell back in 1961, so it’s nothing new.
What is wrong with ft hood ???
Holy crap
Named after a Confederate General?
An incompetent one to boot.
Hence the Mike Doughty song:
Some folks there need to seriously unfuck themselves.
I loved Fort Hood and was fortunate to be in good units there. But Fort Hood is strange and seems to have more than its share of strange crimes.
Of course, with so many units and troops one might expect a good share of duds, but this strange nexus with Killeen, Waco, Austin and I-35 some strange crimes go on there.
I remember the drug cartel–a female Specialist running a drug cartel out of the barracks. The SHARP/EO NCOIC attempting to run a prostitution ring on post was another one. The LT putting up rave posters all over post. and the AWOL rate…my god the AWOL rate…
I was last there 2008-11 and we had a nearly endless string of disappearances, assaults, etc. The CID Det was definitely under resourced.
I accept that there will be dipsticks with us always, but what always amazed me about the Army was how many times the dipsticks were never really dealt with until they graduated from dipstick to full retard past shoe leather and had done something really bad.
The Army has a nasty habit of passing it’s problems along. The fuckup in basic gets pushed through because it’s a headache to toss him out. He slides through AIT because booting him is viewed as a “Command Failure”. He’s allowed to stay and advance because of whatever reason. Now he’s an NCO with no morals, no conscience, and shit goes south.
I saw a few of that breed during my AD days in the early 90’s!
Agree…it’s easier to promote than chapter.
SHARP program, EEO, all of that is great but not the problem. This was a complete leadership failure. Why did it take 60 days for anything to get into gear. Had she been a weapon, they would have been searching for it the minute it was found lost and would not have stopped. Unit would be on lock down. What’s more valuable, the weapon or the Soldier holding the weapon? Every NCO and officer in that chain of command has failed. as a retired cavalryman, this brings dishonor on the 3rd Cavalry, the 1st Cav Division, and the Army. The retired SRNCO in me is fuming over this. I retired to Belton (up the road from Hood), central texas is a great place to be. I served 3 1/2 years with 4ID from 99-02 and then again from 05-08. I enjoyed Fort Hood. It’s a great place to be in an Cavalry Squadron. Nice ranges, a large training area, ect… Killeen kinda sucks though.
“Had she been a weapon…”
Blizz you’re on target and you got me to see this in a different light. Hell yes, this young Soldier was more valuable than a M-4 or any other weapon. Originally, when I read about this story I didn’t immediately think of a failure by the chain of command. But now you’ve got me wondering if the unit leadership’s complacency did in fact contribute to PFC Guillen’s whereabouts being unknown for so long. I hope her family eventually gets to know the truth and not just the Army’s hype in a sanitized press release for public consumption.
Know your soldiers and look out for their welfare. What a concept. I had a 1SG at Fort Hood that thought her job was 9-5 and she had no responsibilities to anyone after Retreat or before PT. Took 8 months to remove her…because it took that long to get through SHARP, IG, EO, Chaplain, TDS, etc, etc, etc.
Had to work around both the Company and BN Commanders because they would rather have a weak 1SG than the hassle of firing one. I was the “bad guy” because I “wasn’t understanding of how the new generation does things”.
Fuck that.
“My two primary missions will always be uppermost in my mind; accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my soldiers.”
NCOs can recite it…BFD. I don’t care about their ability to recite poetry, I want to see them live it!
I’m expecting to find out that this turd’s leaders tolerated his antics instead of pursuing the “hard right over the easy wrong” and were supported in doing so by Commanders.
Poor leadership requires enablers to exist.
Suffice to say, by 2014 I was over it all.
Retirement was an easy decision.
I don’t miss Killeen. Or the heat. But I loved getting out into the training areas.
Fort Hood is the only Installation I’ve ever been to where Cease Fire is called because of Cattle!
This story keeps getting nuttier by the minute

UFB.
I just watched the video and read the article. Fusking horrible and is really starting to smell like the entire COC needs to be hung from a yardarm.
The fact they are playing word games with a female PVT (when she showed up to the unit) who was working with a SPC stinks to high heaven. She got promoted to SPC but was still junior TIG. The POS may not have been in her direct chain of command but he still worked in the armory. PVTs think everyone with more rank than them is in their chain of command.
Really smells like a bunch of shit bag NCOs and zeros are trying to cover their own asses.
