Scotty sends us his research on Robert Danny Hay of Helena, Montana who rides around with his Marine Corps career on the back of his pickup;
The word on the street is that he’s picking up a large VA check every month for his injuries in Vietnam that go along with all of those stickers. However, that’s not what the USMC says about his career;
According to Scotty, there’s going to be a knock at his door this morning.

I was a DI. I have seen your type a million times. Realized in receiving barracks that you made a big mistake but not yet ready to pull the plug. Get to your training platoon and just go through the motions. Get worn out by the DI’s until you finally say the magic words “I refuse to train”. And then the nightmare ends. You get processed out with a FTA discharge (failure to adapt) and go home. But that is not good enough. Got to manufacture a heroic career to make up for not being able to hack it when you got the first big test of your life. Just stop it. It looks like Robert Danny Hay was married on 1 Aug 1969 in Tarrant, TX and divorced 18 Nov 1982 in Tarrant, TX. I’m sure that his ex could fill us all in on what happened at boot camp in 1970 and his double top secret missions post boot camp. She might have even been there when he was awarded all of those medals. Don’t worry, Bob, I’ve got her name, too, so she should be easy enough to get ahold of and ask about what you were doing from 1 Aug 1969 until 18 Nov 1982. I’m guessing that neither getting shot nor going to Vietnam won’t be on the list.
