1SG Katrina Moerk gets ARCOM for trolling

| December 27, 2014

First Sgt. Katrina Moerk

No this is NOT satire, it’s not the Duffel Blog, it’s Military.com and it is about 1SG Katrina Moerk who got an Army Commendation Medal for scolding other soldiers in a social media chat room;

First Sgt. Katrina Moerk, now the first sergeant of Charlie Company, 741st Military Intelligence Battalion, was browsing a social media network’s community page earlier this year, when she came upon a video that she found offensive and sexist. When she commented as much, several respondents attacked her with insults. Some of these respondents were wearing uniforms in their profile photos, the first sergeant said, so she wrote to them directly.

“I looked them up, introduced myself and explained to them why they were stupid. And I [copied] the director of the Army SHARP program to help their units improve their SHARP training, because it was obviously lacking. And it’s kind of blown up from there,” Moerk said.

[…]

“I tried to explain why I didn’t care for it,” she added, “and [said], ‘If you don’t know who you’re talking to, be careful what you say in an open public forum on the Internet,’ and it just made it worse. When I started calling them by rank, they figured I was in the military and made jokes about calling people out on the Internet, or [that] pulling rank on the Internet is like calling somebody out in a bar.”

Things died down online, she said, but Dr. Christine Altendorf, the SHARP director, brought Moerk’s email to the attention of Lt. Gen. Howard Bromberg, then the Army’s deputy chief of staff for personnel. Shortly thereafter, the Army launched three administrative investigations, because Soldiers from three separate major commands were involved, either through producing the video or making inappropriate comments.

Her sergeant major called her the epitome of what an NCO should be. Lucky for her, an Army First Sergeant didn’t have more important things to do than to troll the internet looking for trouble. I come across things on the internet that offend me and I click away, I personally boycott that website, I don’t turn into a nosy scold. Lucky for her she clicked into something that the Army leadership is focusing on these days.

I have three ARCOMs from my two decades of service – I earned mine by doing my job and working towards the successful completion of the unit’s mission. Silly me.

ADDED: Here’s how she trolled the social media. She trolled me looking for me to grunt and call her names;

Directly from her blog: “But I have endeavored to lead by example. I ate after my Soldiers, despite how hungry I was, while sitting on a rail head in Louisiana. I gave my woobie and space blanket to one of my Soldiers, despite how cool the night air was, because he was cold and couldn’t sleep. I ensured that my Soldiers shared all of our rations with the fire team who supported us on such short notice, and no time to prepare for themselves. I kept my tongue, when I wanted to scream at the Lieutenant who demeaned, demoralized, and insulted me because I was a female. I kept my tongue, so that my Soldiers would learn to choose their battles. I teach my troops everything I know they will never be taught. I pass on the quiet secrets that I have collected over the years, and the enthusiasm that I have acquired for this profession that I keep. I cried when one of my best Soldiers chose to leave the Army rather than fight a misogynistic First Sergeant. It broke my heart to see such talent, lost to this Army, and I still harbor guilt because I was not able to protect her. I fight tirelessly to ensure that my Soldiers are taken care of, regardless of personal opinions. It is right thing to do, but rocking the boat never makes for friendly waters or welcoming shores.”

The fact that a First Sergeant is willing to post this about others she has worked with in such an open forum speaks volumes.

First Sgt, leaders don’t brag about being leaders. They just are leaders.

Claymore

“I kept my tongue, when I wanted to scream at the Lieutenant who demeaned, demoralized, and insulted me because I was a female.”

Yes, because Princess Leia, couldn’t have possibly fucked up and deserved to get her ass chewed for anything, especially from the stereotypical LT. Chip + Shoulder….some assembly required.

Animal

My thoughts on that quote exactly.

Ex-PH2

Claymore, that bothered me, too. ‘Demoralized, demeaned, insulted’ because she was female?

I’d like to have a recounting of exactly what this lieutenant said.

Considering her ‘I-me-mine’ whine, my guess is that she screwed up royally on something. And that was likely followed by a verbal reprimand, which hurt her widdo feewings, meaning she can’t take criticism, period.

My earliest experience with verbal reprimands from people senior to me was loud, harsh, and intimidating, and not once was the fact that I was female even mentioned. That was in the 1960s.

This little heifer’s entire monologue centers on how quickly and easily her feelings get hurt. What ever happened to real discipline?

Ex-PH2

Like several of us have said, it’s all about her, her, her.

Man, she must have dislocated her lefty arm when she patted herself on the back.

Animal

I’m surprised she wasn’t given a medal for giving up her woobie and space blanket who was too cold to sleep.

If he was too cold to sleep he wasn’t tired enough.

Old Trooper

That’s what I was thinking, too.

Flagwaver

My old Top would have turned that into an educational moment to teach why we should follow the packing list.

Animal

Or put you on fire watch so somebody else could sleep or both.

Old Trooper

Also; if it was a railhead in Louisiana; how cold could it really be to give up your beloved woobie (who speaks like that unless they’re pre-schoolers?) to a male soldier, unless it was Breanna Manning? I ask this, because as I write this, it is exactly 8 degrees outside.

RunPatRun

Yup, I think you stated it best before, spoiled brat. A snippet from her ARCOM worthy action (from her blog). If she was furious then, I bet she’s lividly furious now.
—-
“A Noncommissioned Officer responded that “no one cared,” when I attempted to explain why I found the video distasteful.

I was infuriated. I paced my house, and cursed. I was outraged at the absolute audacity of Soldiers to be so disrespectful to someone that they did not know. I knew they were Soldiers and service members, because they had photos of themselves in uniform on their individual profiles. Being diplomatic on Facebook was not getting my point across. I looked them up in Global, and decided to send them an email. It was a great piece of work, my email. I cannot tell you how many times I had to delete expletives when referring to these Soldiers. I wanted to jump through the computer and choke them, I was so angry.

It was obvious in my mind that they needed better training in their units. The email that I sent to their AKO and .mil accounts was professional, to the point, and informative. I did not mince any words. I got my point across very clearly. Then I thought I would courtesy copy the director of the SHARP program and introduce her via this correspondence to areas that were in need, with regards to SHARP training. Christine Altendorf is the Director of the ARMY SHARP program. She is an SES, whom I included in an email to internet trolls. Had no idea the ripple effect that I was about to cause. The aftermath of this action has resulted in several careers ending before they had a chance to begin, NCOs being relieved of their leadership functions, and eight Soldiers losing their clearances for creating a satirical video.”

Animal

I’m officially beyond words. I’ve never heard of someone bragging about ending the careers of others. Never. And all so public. I was angered by this. Now I’m just sick at my stomach.

Ex-PH2

Ditto.

The more I read it, the more appalled I am that she is this stupid. She isn’t displaying leadership, by any stretch of the imagination.

Can of worms, now wide open.

Animal

I wish I could be there when she goes back to work the next time.

MrBill

Yup. Absolutely fucking appalling. Something that, handled properly, should have resulted in a few ass-chewings, instead resulted in careers (and possibly lives) being ruined. Fuck her. Just fuck her. (In case the troll is reading, I mean that in the metaphorical sense.)

Poohbah, Lord High Everything Else

Eight pulled clearances?

Yeah, that’s going to end well. We now have guys who can’t reenlist, can’t take a defense contractor or civil service job, and who will now spend the remainder of their lives paying dearly for a little bit of stupidity.

Outstanding, 1SG Moerk. Bravo Zulu. We didn’t have enough young men unemployed, or underemployed in dead-end jobs. But, thankfully, you took the initiative to manufacture eight more.

And you’re PROUD of it. Jesus Gawd, you really are a nasty person.

Flagwaver

So, it is because of her that some NCOs were sacked when they were never informed of what was going on? Did this Top Soldier ever decide to inform their chain of command of the incident as regulations state? Did this seventeen year veteran of the United States Army seek to file unit-level actions against the disrespectful soldiers?

No, she decided to go up to the top of the line because she ASSumed their training was lax. It couldn’t have been that Joe was being Joe. It couldn’t have been that they were doing it on the down-low. It couldn’t have been that they might have thought the person claiming to be a 1SG was just a troll trying to throw a fake rank.

Did she ever give them a chance to respond to the official inquiry? Did she allow them to apologize for their comments when they found that she really was a 1SG?

No, she ran straight over her chain of command while throwing theirs under the bus. Then, she decided to crow about it because she was given an award for how many people losing their livelihoods over her not going through the PROPER CHANNELS just because she got butthurt.

Yup, she is definitely a poster child for a branch of the U.S. Army.

OWB

Among other things, this is an admission that she is an ineffective supervisor. Apparently she has alienated anyone who would serve as a mentor or sounding board so feels this ridiculous need to spew in public those frustrations the rest of us would quietly talk about with a peer.

Rocking the boat? Why would she even consider it?? Oh, yeah. Because she such a special little snowflake and we keep forgetting that big Army is supposed to bend to her will instead of the other way around.

What a loon. IVAW potential is strong with this one.

streetsweeper

We think alike. 😎

CLAW131

Animal, you’re correct about the leaders not bragging. There’s the old saying that “Pressure Makes Diamonds”. I think that this E-8’s Diamond just got broken off from it’s setting and fell into the mud.

Animal

And it will be someone else’s fault as well.

Climb to Glory

Jesus H Christ. This shit is starting to piss me off. She is the Blue Falcon of the century. She loves her some me. What she has demonstrated to me is that she is not a leader in any way, shape, or form.

Eric

“I ate after my Soldiers, despite how hungry I was, while sitting on a rail head in Louisiana.”

I think I’ve found the first clue to her being a slick sleeve. If this is the “toughest” thing you can show for leadership, as a leader, you’ve not been in a combat zone. Though she might have gone to JRTC, which is basically the same thing….

Animal

Funny you bring up JROTC. That was exactly my mental image.

Old Trooper

I had a 1SG that would of had her bawling with just a look and would have chewed her shit for pulling this stunt, had any of the soldiers in question been in his command. I saw him do it to both military and civilian types. You don’t go around the soldiers command, period. That same 1SG had a class 3 profile and didn’t have to even stand up if he so chose, yet he was out there, leading from the front every morning for PT and all other functions. He would stomp your ass, if you were out of line, but he would back you 100% if he thought you were in the right. He was a fair and disciplined leader and he had the respect of every swinging dick in the unit, officer or enlisted.

FatCircles0311

She looks 12 years old.

Also this is easily the worst blue falcon story I’ve ever heard This is legendary thunder cunt territory. A fucking 3 star involved.

Wow.

Who needs enemies when you have scum like this right in your own branch. I wasn’t aware snowflakes ran the USArmy but it’s confirmed now.

Flagwaver

She doesn’t run the U.S. Army. She probably thinks she does, because she’s a strong and empowered goddess. But, she is just a First Sergeant who probably doesn’t even know the difference between her rank and that of Master Sergeant.

Hell, she probably is only a 1SG because the Army thought the position warranted it and there wasn’t anything else that it could really fall under.

I’ve known some real First Sergeants. On my first “deployment” to fight fires, I was under one of the best NCOs I have ever served with. He was a 1SG then, but is now the Command Sergeant Major of the Army National Guard.

She ranks right up there with the shrill harpy’s who gave us our annual ‘don’t rape anyone’ briefings just before we went through our SRPs.

Adrienne

Did she deserve a metal. HECK NO. I think the person who gave her one for this should be reduced in rank for stupidity. Did she do the right thing in telling the other to act appropriate in uniform. YES. Well to a degree. Military people put up with ALOT of stress and BS and if they want to release a little steam by acting foolish on occasions then that is their choice. As long as they are not verbally attacking someone then it should be ok. It blows my mind how sissified the military is becoming. No wonder why they are losing good men and women left and right. If you can’t handle it then you shouldn’t be in the military.

CLAW131

Will she be CSM “No Slack”‘s replacement in three years?? Heaven help us!!

Sapper3307

Zinger!

Dbie Johnson

I love the way she’s now complaining that Jonn went trolling for someone he doesn’t know.

Um. Look in the mirror, woman. Isn’t that EXACTLY what you did to get your undeserved ARCOM?

Climb to Glory

I know. The irony escapes her. If she is looking for sympathy from me she can look in the dictionary between shit and Syphilis.

I just had a bright idea (and a wild hair up my ass), someone needs to call a *WAAAAH*mbulance to show up at her location to give her a peanut butter sandwich and some fresh Kool-Aid while they give her a group hug! If I was anywhere nearby, I’d show up and play ” Kum-ba-ya” via my armpit!!

CLAW131

Don’t forget, she needs her “wooobie” back too!!

NHSparky

An observation:

She wanted attention. She got it. Too bad for her it wasn’t the kind she thought she deserved.

propsguy

You have to wonder how many knives she stuck in the backs of fellow soldiers and leaders, both male and female, on her inglorious climb to the top.

Hondo

Ask the mess halls at all of her former assignments how many knives they’re short, propsguy. That should give an estimate.

FYI, E8 Moerk: a “mess hall” is what troops today would call a “dining facility”, or “DFAC”. My military career was such that I’ve eaten in both. I’m guessing you haven’t, so I thought I should explain the term for you.

And yes – the use of “E8” vice “1SG” above on my part was intentional.

Flagwaver

First, I love the way she implies that she knows how to control troopies, but other 1SGs don’t. That definitely shows her reasoning for throwing other chains of command under the bus.

Oh, speaking of which…

ARTICLE 92. FAILURE TO OBEY ORDER OR REGULATION

ARTICLE 98. NONCOMPLIANCE WITH PROCEDURAL RULES

ARTICLE 134. GENERAL ARTICLE

Those are the three charges against one of the troopies in my company (different platoon) that decided to skip right over our CO and take an unwarranted EO complaint to State level. It wasn’t even a lower enlisted, but an E-6 that did it.

She didn’t like the fact that one of her fellow NCOs was saying the word “fuck” more than she felt he should and he told her to pound sand when she asked him to stop (he was a former Navy Corpsman turned Army Medic).

I can promise that what happened to her wasn’t an ARCOM.

Ex-PH2

Oh, how did I miss this one? Geez, Flagwaver, you post the best opportunity to make a snappy comeback and I missed it.

I’m so F****KING sorry! I’ll FkKKing try harder the next time.

Flagwaver

It’s okay, Ex. I know your heart’s in the right place. 😛

vet

ARCOM? Soldiers fought and shot in wars got less! WTF! If she had any fortitude she would have declined, horrible example she is setting.
A 1SG with nothing better to do than surf Face Book need to go down range for a stint to learn soldiering…sad state of affairs, an ARCOM!? Some on people!

Specialist Boone

This is why I intentionally left the U.S Army. This practice of rewarding tattle tales and snitches and people who go OUT OF THEIR WAY to cause trouble with their fellow soldiers in the Military is absolutely insulting to the United States of America. It is a travesty that these are the people being rewarded..People like First Sergeant Moerk instead of the REAL men and women who are down range in theater going outside the wire daily with the threat of ambushes and I.E.D’s. Sickening..Absolutely sickening..If shes looking for remorse or some type of commendation from REAL soldiers, She will never get it. Let me know if you do something real 1SGT Moerk!! Like escort a convoy in Afghanistan or Iraq and provide security!! Or better yet!!! Let me know the day after you survive a fucking Firefight…Pencil pushing desk jockey..

Common Sense

Um, from what I can tell from all off this is there were soldiers being dumbass soldiers, not uncommon. But then she began to pretty much incite responses from said soldiers, then proceeded to report them. Now common sense, reason, and logic would dictate that she was then just as guilty as the accused parties. And in all actuality, Tom out one step further. The more comments and responses she pulled from beyond what the original posts were can be upheld as entrapment. Yet they awarded here. This corrupt upper level politics is a main reason why I got out.command doesn’t give a shit one about the joes, just looking for that next bullet point. She deserves to have that award groomed, and to be wrote up as well. There’s a right way of doing things and the wrong, of which she did the latter. Reporting them properly was all that was unnecessary, but she actually contributed to the delinquency. You done fucked up, 1Sgt. Good luck every having troops respect and listen after this. You’re now the army’s new joke. Congrats on that award, cause my two arcoms from combat tours say go fuck yourself.

A Proud Infidel®™

OH, so in reality she “Bernathed” those troops and threw them under the bus for political gain? DAMN I’m glad I ETS’ed when i did in the early 90’s, I have no regrets about coming back into the NG and doing my time in the ME, where I saw E7’s and up that almost never left the wire getBSM’s for making coffee and kissing up while we Grunts that did our time downrange got ACM’s. Maybe she should call that AAM Her “Political Correctness Campaign Medal”?!

A Proud Infidel®™

*OOP!*, ARCOM.

Common Sense

Took it one step*, not Tom out.

Award revoked*,not groomed.

Reporting them properly was all that was necessary*

Fuck I hate doing this on mobile…

Smitty

I would only like to correct one statement she made on a factual basis. His name is SFC Lilyea, not Mr. All her problem causing aside, don’t try to evoke your rank for respect and not return the same to a man who did his entire career and retired from that same army by about the same time you probably first thought of emlisting.

Climb to Glory

Exactly. Not to mention the fact that he earned his rank at a time when the it was difficult to earn rank. I’m done with her.

Ex-344MP

What Smitty and CtG said….

Animal

Well, the cats out of the bag now. This should be interesting to see where this takes her.

Thank you, fellow Soldier at arms. I would address you by your name and rank but you didn’t leave it in the glowing comment that you left me. This actually didn’t start out to be an “I love me” blog. I have actually had this for nearly two years, and only just recently, was it even remotely affiliated with me by name. This was a place to put my thoughts, and personal observations about life, my kids, the military, etc. These are MY opinions on here. It says that pretty clearly, it is my blog.
Now on to your comments. As you can see, I am sharing your post on my beloved blog. I fail to see how calling someone out for defaming me on the internet warrants my SUICIDE. See all of my Soldiers now know about my blog, now. And this is what they see. Your comments to me. You make my point very clear to them. Had a little bit of light in my own corner, and all the dirty name-calling skeletons come running out to get a piece.
Here is your comment in plain sight… flaws and all.

Animal

I snagged this from the comments on her blog.

NHSparky

And yet she holds the sincere and respectful comments “in moderation.”

Nah, no agenda here.

Faqheem.

Animal

Nope. I think this is going to be a day she remembers for a long time. In the words of an old 1st Sgt, “This one could grow legs and walk on it’s own!”

streetsweeper

Wait a minute. Did we have the same old 1SG?

Eric

The problem is people are stupidly feeding the flames of her expectations and egotism to give her the attention and ability to respond that she’s wanting.

Though as is shown, she’s reserving release of positive comments, which helps prove the point.

I’m sure she’ll have a job ready for her at MSNBC, or CNN after she retires. Maybe even the white house if its a democrat…

Duncan McDonut

she’ll have a job ready for her at MSNBC

Yup.. tampon earrings and media talking points being held in reserve as we speak.

SFC Raikkonen

I applaud a sister-in-arms and fellow Scandinavian for correcting some Soldiers on a public forum but I shame the command team that decided to give her an ARCOM for it. I watched guys and gals do some seriously awesome stuff in a war zone and get less than this. Everyone used to make fun of me because I had a lot of ribbons from my time in the Air Force but it would seem the Army is becoming just as absurd with their generosity of award giving.

Old Trooper

It’s not that she corrected them on a public forum. It’s what she did after that and, also, what Big Army did. I would expect nothing less of her to take corrective action at the time, or even talk to the command of those troops, however, she didn’t do that and now many careers are in shambles and she walks off with an ARCOM and chip on her shoulder, when her methodology and leadership is called into question.

NHSparky

She’s editing her comments as fast as she can.

Fortunately, the Algorenet is forever.

Roger Wert

Sounds like a lot of you require being chaptered out of the Military. I do find it amazing that you use the internet to bad mouth people yet don’t have the intestinal fortitude to say the same thing to their face.

Ex-PH2

Well, roger dodger, you can’t read very well. People ARE attempting to address her face to face on HER internet space and she’s deleting their comments before they can appear.

You need to look a bit deeper than the surface of the foam on your beer, sport.

A Proud Infidel®™

Beer NOTHING, he needs to cut back on the sugar in his Kool-Aid!!!

Old Trooper

Then you don’t know us very well, Roger, because I can’t think of a one of us that wouldn’t say what we type to the person’s face. If you have been around this blog for a while, you would know that.

Otherwise; go suck a grenade, candyass.

B Woodman

Huh?
“require being chaptered out of the Military”
Son (not saying WHOSE son), a lot of us are RETIRED from the military, and don’t need your permission to speak our piece.

streetsweeper

Ohhhhh…Roger! Do you normally stroll into a hornets nest and poke around or are you shit stupid? Hang around, I’m sure a number “need chaptered out” retiree’s and vets will gladly line up and give you a verbal bitch slapping.

Ex-PH2

‘poke around in a hornet’s nest or shit stupid’ – Street, can I borrow that?

OWB

Yeah, right. That’s funny. Also makes you sound about 12-yrs old.

OWB

(Not you, street!)

streetsweeper

I knew that 😉

propsguy

Dude you can’t chapter retired and prior service veterans and civilians.

Did you NOT actually read about who a lot of the membership is here before you came in trying to defend your little princess?

Sapper3307

If they let us retired folks back in and than chapter us do we still get the new G.I Bill and stuff? It may be worth it.

Erick

she demonstrates the very reason we will most likely loose soldiers in our next conflict with some determined foes who don’t give a crap about internet postings or how to make the boss feel special, the army should be about warriors and how to take and keep areas in a foreign land , but the PC crew has subverted this once again,,,,, our adversaries are just waiting to smoke our asses, and this goofball 1sgt just fans their enthusiasm.. she makes me want to puke!!! seen too many like her around the ville, all tough acting til you get them into the proverbial box and make them pick up a rifle to hold the line, and damn,,,, they are pregnant, emotional or some other BS, we had about two or three of her types who melted when the shit hit the fan, but damn they had some medals, and one even got the BSM for melting in front of the troops, WTF, just so she (female 1SG) wouldn’t look bad when she came home 25 days into the deployment.

Semper Fi Bitches!!! 🙂

Currahee John

I think we’ve found someone who has a crush on the big, bad 1SG.

streetsweeper

Maybe, his other ID is “Viper”…

Flagwaver

Bless your little heart. There’s not much more that I can say that my brothers and sisters above haven’t.

I’d gladly tell her to her face what I am writing here. I would do so in a polite and well-mannered way. I would not tell her what I am about to tell you, though.

Which is that you should go grow up.

If you are in, perhaps you should focus on what it means to be a true soldier and not a Blue Falcon. If you are a civilian, then perhaps you should put on a bib and eat a bag of dicks.

You see, I’d love to get back in. I had the time of my life. But, I have moved on to better things and am being productive in my own way.

nbcguy54

Mr Wart, if you actually knew anything about the military, you’d know that most of us have been chaptered out. You see, in the Army for instance, retirements and ETSs also fall under AR 635-200, just different chapters within the reg.
Word to the wise: know your facts and your audience before showing your ass.
And for the record, we’d love to tell the 1SG what we think to her face, but using the exact same style she used works also.

Dave Hardin

The more I look into this incident the more disturbing I find it. It appears that this is a deliberate, premeditated, and collaborated act. This action by her and those I believe are coaching her is not something I will let pass into the quiet goodnight.

Sexual harassment is not to be tolerated. Giving a medal to someone for trolling the internet and confronting a few people for making comments about a fictitious person after stalking their personal information is unacceptable.

This is her side of the story. I will be glad to explain why it is so out of order on so many levels.

http://www.primovideonline.com/Video/videotb/LR2c_h9FCdA/Confronting_Unethical_Conduct_on_Social_Media/?d=AXvOiGZ28R1POxMibZp95gYO88HsQjpE1a8d1GxQnGDm

Climb to Glory

Holy shit. I knew something was rotten in Denmark. This is what the Big Army has become.

Eric

“She” created this video, directed it, produced it, wrote it, did the music score, the screenplay, etc etc etc.

So many pains in my head…..

“You don’t know me, I tell you what, instead of talking to your 1SGs about this, I’m going to call the Pentagon! That’ll show you!”

Nicki

What I find interesting is that she’s offended that they made this video of “Suzie Rottencrotch,” but she’s NOT offended that there are still females in the barracks who act like doorknobs for every Joe.

Fact of the matter is that there ARE those women in the barracks. In every barracks I’ve been in! Every. Single. One.

And yet, she doesn’t appear to be appalled by that fact – by the fact that there are women in the military who act like whores for whatever reason. She’s offended by the fact that the Soldiers are open about acknowledging it.

Really.

No, there’s no excuse for such unprofessional conduct in uniform, and that video should not have been shared publicly. But that doesn’t seem to bother her as much as the fact that these guys are acknowledging actual REALITY.

FatCircles0311

Because she’s a SJW female supremist. Females can never be wrong and are always a victim of males.

These people are a cancer on our culture and big army openly pronounces their acceptance of the agenda.

streetsweeper

I shut it down after she began droning on and on and pitch of her voice changed, facial expression, eyes searching…

Green Thumb

You nailed it.

No pun intended.

Ex-PH2

I agree with your assessment, Dave. Her acts seemed to be intentional to me, not the result of mere surfing.

She went looking for something to kick up a fuss about, found it, and made a mountain out of a molehill which backfired on her, and now she’s wondering why people are annoyed with her.

She really doesn’t like being criticized or told that she did someting not just wrong, but incorrectly.

What a crapweasel.

streetsweeper

I paused this video at 3:26 and scrolled through it, body language, change in voice pitch, furrowing eyebrows, eyes searching the map to recall details is a bit much to me.

If I may play MP for a minute, were I interviewing her, first thing I’d ask her is, “where are your notes”?. I never knew an NCO to not have notes for later down the road if shit hits the fan.

I am certain if I am wrong, someone will point it out.

Ex-PH2

Absolutely, Street, I was told a LONG time ago to document everything, period. You cannot rely on memory alone.

Flagwaver

One of the first things I was issued when I got back from BCT/AIT was a pen and notebook (the nice ones that are water-safe and big enough to fit in the lower BDU jacket pocket). I was hand-receipted them. The reason? To cover my ass.

The brief was:

If there is anything that is no covered by S.O.P., any change from the ordinary mission, any order that is given, any counseling that is made, anything you find noteworthy, or anything that might even raise a single hair on your neck, you document it. If you fill your notebook, another will be issued to you. If there is a problem, Command will use your notebook to determine the outcome. If you are wrongly accused, your notes will be used as evidence.

I still carry one of those notebooks, and have from that day.

Poohbah, Lord High Everything Else

Watching the video without sound.

Noticed that her eyes keep tracking to her right. That’s the side of the brain associated with creating images and sounds–the left side is associated with memory and recall.

Just sayin’.

Ex-PH2

There’s another aspect of it.

People who habitually exaggerate the truth or just plain lie regularly tend to let their eyes wander to the right. Not 100% of them, but a very large percentage.

People who don’t do that tend to glance to the left. Again, not 100% of them, but a very large percentage.

spd0302

Holy shit, she had chow only after all of her troops had eaten….even when she was hungry! Her supreme sacrifice, under duress of hunger, must easily rate a BSM with V.

SGT W

Here I was thinking that’s what you’re supposed to do anyway…

Enigma4you

Here she is describing the incident

RazorbackStrong

What a big eared crybaby! She’s exactly the one who’s always pulling her ID out when she gets butthurt. She should retire and be a social worker so people may give a shit about what she says & let the healing begin. Fuck you, Rottencrotch!

Charlie Foxtrot

THAT is one soulless big-eared Wombat of a political grandstander!!

Flagwaver

Watch yourself…

Wombats are cute.

Duncan McDonut

Scruntg comes across like a smug self serving occupy life’s not fair special snowflake “social justice” kind of “lady”. How in hades did someone this special and fragile make it through basic training?

Randy

I hate to say it but females in any military unit get awards just for menstrating every month she only made 1st sgt bc of her sex and the current douch bag assholes in office. Shes just another token NCO That earned her rank off some ridiculous double standard.

william d

TRUE THAT SHIT

OWB

Uhm, no, that just is not so. Perhaps in some, but certainly not in “any military unit.”

No idea if she is a token or not. Could be. Or not.

Flagwaver

Actually, I am inclined to agree with Randy in respect to her rank. With the amount of whining she does in her video and on her blog, I am wondering how she made it to SFC, let along 1SG. Sure, it’s okay to be a girly-girl and all that, but when you put that uniform on, you have to pack your vagina in a footlocker because you are a soldier before a male or female.

I have known my fair share of E-8s, both 1SGs and MSGs. Not all were hard-asses, but none of them were whiners.

You can’t get butthurt because Joe did something mean. You can’t run crying to a General because some Joe called you a name. Had any any true experience being a real Army NCO, she would have contacted their 1SG (or equivalent NCO) and hashed it out right there. Period, end of incident.

Instead, she ran to the strongest female character she knew of. Probably someone she had worked with in the past and/or the person that handed her the rank and job she is currently in.

That’s not how a true 1SG operates. They don’t go whining to the Pentagon whenever they see something wrong. They first try to correct the individual, then bring the individual’s NCO leadership into the mix, then bring the individual’s command into the mix, then to to the individual’s higher, etc.

The LAST thing that is done is contacting anyone with stars on their shoulder. That sets a poor precedent and a poor example for those in her command.

OWB

And what, Flagwaver, have I said that indicates my assessment as anything other than what you wrote as rebuttal to my telling Randy that women in general are not rewarded for simply menstruating instead of doing their jobs?

Perhaps I missed some punctuation in the post, but it came off sounding like a dismissal of all women, or most women, or some horrendously large amount of female military members. My experience has not born out that assertion. At all. In fact, some of us observed that when we got nearer combat, it was the men, not the women, who were whining and literally crying. Not all of them, certainly, but none of the women behaved that way. It was enough men that the comment was made, “Now we know the real reason men don’t want women in combat.”

Sure, there are whiny women in the military. Sure, there are goldbrick females in the military. Bound to be, just like there are whiny and goldbrick males in the military. I won’t defend any of them when they behave badly.

Flagwaver

None of my statement was meant as a generalization. It was meant as a specific example toward this one 1SG. I agree that there are women and men who are whiners in the military, but I also do not agree with your comment about the reason men don’t want women in combat.

You fail to understand that stresses react differently on everyone. Did you not see males cry in Basic Training? I did. It was a reaction to being overwhelmed. It is a natural part of the human psyche. In combat, there are similar situations.

I do not wish to go into that subject at this point, though. My comment was made specific to this circumstance and not to all circumstances.

OWB

We’re probably on the same page, Flagwaver. My response (to Randy) was an attempt to keep the discussion centered on the idiot subject of this topic and not go to generalizations.

propsguy

I can’t wait to see what the DuffleBlog does with this. 😀

Bobo

I’m not sure if I’m more offended by the fact that she cc’d the director of the Army SHARP program on her little e-mails to the individual soldiers or that the director of the Army SHARP program actually had time to deal with what should have been a matter handled at the company level.

At least now I know that, now, if I see a Youtube video of an Infantry platoon conducting a movement to contact that isn’t in accordance with Army doctrine and training, I can feel free to cc the CG TRADOC on an e-mail that I send to the platoon leader. Hell, maybe I can get an ARCOM, too!

NHSparky

Yeah, back on the boat, one of the guys joked about sticking someone in the Reactor Compartment and answering ahead flank until the screaming stopped.

I guess in today’s military, instead of laughing my ass off about it, I should have emailed NAVSEA08 and told him his training sucks.

(For non-nukes, that would be the 4-star head of Naval Reactors, like ADM Rickover.)

Hondo

Bingo, Bobo.

This was a matter that an e-mail from E8 Moerk to a few of her professional peers would have solved. If she was able to ID the soldiers involved, she would have with a bit of additional work been able to ID their units – and thus their 1SGs/CSMs. A simple “Hey, you got a Joe acting like an ass on the Internet. Thought you’d want to know about it so you could correct him.” was all it would have taken.

Escalating this to the DA level was unnecessary, and wasted a huge amount of senior executive time. Doing so as a first resort also blue falconed a number of her professional peers.

A military professional knows doing either of the above is just plain wrong.

propsguy

Oh yeah, Imagine being those moron’s PSG and coming into the company AO and getting locked up at parade rest for THAT shit on a Monday morning.

The mind boggles.

NHSparky

In a perfect world, everywhere she applies to after she retires is run by veterans.

“So, E8, explain how you got that award.”

“Sure, blahblahblah…”

“Okay, thanks. We’ll be in touch.”

She has yet to learn that the corporate world also has a chain of command, and they can often be less forgiving than Big Army when you go over someone’s head.

A Proud Infidel®™

You mean something like “Memo from upstairs, clean out your desk, a Security Guard is standing by to supervise you while you do so!”?

nbcguy54

She seems to have a touch of hypocrisy and even some racism about her. In a blog posted in 2013 she talks about a black female NCO who she felt used her race and gender to get promoted and how she would skip the chain of command for preferential treatment.

A Proud Infidel®™

The Google is strong with First Sgt. Katrina Moerk now, a Google search on her name goes right here to THIS thread first!!!

propsguy

I think she struck a nerve with a lot of people. Several nerves as a matter of fact. This is climbing up near a 400 post count in less than 24 hours. That kind of attention is usually reserved for the most heinous of posers.

Charlie Foxtrot

So she’s landed herself up there alongside Wickre, Bernath, and “”Blobfish”!

Ex-PH2

How quickly she is becoming a legend, eh?

A Proud Infidel®™

Methinks it’s safe to say that First Sgt. Katrina Moerk has drawn a “BERNATHIAN” amount of comments in just 24 hours!!

Flagwaver

You win. Thread over. All hail the winner of the Thread!

Bernathian needs to be added to the dictionary.

legendarydto

Hey first sgt get off ya knees and stop being a blur falcon. Note we know how she got that high. You’re military and you let comments but hurt you? You’re a first sgt and if be terrified to be in your chain. I might get article 15 for smiling at you wrong.

Sapper3307

She’s good at the computer stuff. She needs to work for Sony.

A Proud Infidel®™

That is until she even THINKS someone there looked at her wrong and then Sony would be getting hit with a “Bernathian” lawsuit!!

Ex-PH2

She’s an embarrassment for women in the military who earned the right to say “I was part of that”. I’m thinking of WACs, WAFs, WAVES, and WMs who were stationed everywhere they were needed during World War II. Korea and Vietnam, especially the nurses in the Pacific Theater and Southeast Asia.

I don’t care what her rank is or how long she’s been in the Army. She just does not measure up to them, in my humble opinion.

And now, if someone asks her how she got her ARCOM, she gets to tell them it was for ‘correcting soldiers in their attitude about sex’???? Oh, that’s a sea story I would just LOVE to hear recounted in any off-base bar or club in the PI or OZ or either coast.

I can see it all tumbling downhill for her now. The office snoop is not the most popular of souls.

Old Trooper

I bet the story starts out “no shit; there I was, minding my own business on the internet, when…..”

A Proud Infidel®™

Maybe she’ll refer to it as her “Political Correctness Campaign medal”?

propsguy

Maybe it’s reverse sabotage?

I mean, if she really is the kind of supercilious pain in the ass snowflake that she comes off as, This would be the way to spike her career.

SHe’s toxic now, no command is going to want her in the future because she’s part of a current “media” controversy.and she has a rep for causing all kinds of headaches.

The Lt.Gen. didn’t put this award ceremony together, this was all set up by a couple of MasterSgts and staff field grade officers.

It’s how I’d do it,

GIve her an Arcom for “doing her job”/ ratting to a GO and a Political appointed civilian director, Instead of Normal CoC let’s have the 0-9 present her with the award and have Sec Def in on it, Now let’s take pics and write it up so that the Prez and congress critters all feel warm and fuzzy, and further more, lets put it on the internet and watch the shitstorm.

Clever plan. I like it.

Hondo

Or it could just be what it appears to be, propsguy: political correctness and “touchy-feely” BS taking the place of military leadership.

Given what I’ve seen going on in uniform lately, my money’s on the latter.

propsguy

You’re probably right, I just like my “diabolical evil genius” plan better. 😀

Mike Kozlowski

Ex-PH2,

Preach it. I suspect that by now every last poor soul in that company – the company commander included – has made the decision that no matter what happens, they’re not going to trust her as far as they can throw her. And an attitude like that will tear a unit apart faster than a few posts on Facebook ever will.

Mike

A Proud Infidel®™

Not just that, but EVERYONE in her unit and all others surrounding it will have ZERO trust or faith in her, they’ll think of her like she was a copperhead or cottonmouth in the grass on a PT field!

Ex-PH2

I’m thinking that when she puts her resume together for a civilian job and tries to explain how she got her ARCOM, when she’s interviewed by Human Resources about it, if she says she cc:’d the head of the SHARP program in her e-mail.

Unless I’m mistaken, anyone in HR who interviews her would ask her why she didn’t report it to their supervisors first.

She may have also earned the title ‘rat bastage’ for herself. Not sure about that one, though. No, she can’t be trusted. I wouldn’t ask her for the time of day.

Duncan McDonut

She’s just another special snowflake, product of the school system where everybody has the right to “feel good” and “fairness” who couldn’t handle the though of being a normal First Sergeant like all the others. So, she had to find a way to “Stand out” rather than doing her job well. Now, it’s coming back to bite her in the backside. Did she learn nothing from basic training? Wench probably has Social Actions on speed dial right next to all her “selfies”.

nbcguy54

I read a bunch of her earlier drivel and she is definitely showing her azz in those as well. She comes off as a racist hypocrite with a touch of self-righteousness thrown in for good measure. She probably made her blog private to keep her bosses from seeing it as well.

Many of us Vets have an “I Love Me Wall” in their homes, myself included. Maybe E8 Katrina Moerk has changed her blog to an “I love ME webpage”?

Maybe someone in her chain of command explained to her that what she was saying brought discredit upon the US Army?

That is precisely what she did with her public lies, innuendo, and other shenanigans. She gets an award for calling out military members saying inappropriate things in public, then says even worse thing in public? Yeah, this special little snowflake may have just come to understand the power of the UCMJ.

All she had to do was keep her trap shut and it would have blown over eventually. She just couldn’t do it. Oh, well.

So her blog is now private. I looked into her yesterday and spoke to one person that has serves with her. From what I could find she is a good NCO. I think she let her temper influence her professional life because she is sensitive to sexual misconduct, that is not a bad thing. I also think that because of her past she sees things in a way that they are not intended. Now I honestly think that the Soldiers involved in the incident needed correcting, she was obligated to do that, but it should not have been career ending, but thats what it turned out to be. What should have been a teaching moment turned into a witch hunt that she instigated.

I think this is the heart of the issue for a lot of us.

There is a problem in the military with blurred lines when it comes to the sexes, that mixed message has been there for a very long time. It can be fixed but it cannot be fixed with disciplining young Soldiers for acting like young soldiers.

Sorry, but I’m not sure that this is so. Sex is more primal than discipline, It is an evolutionary force (it is likely the prime force in understanding human behavior from an evolutionary perspective). The military has to teach discipline, but sexual attraction comes perfectly naturally to most of us. This is a key aspect of human behavior, which is inconvenient for a particular political movement. That movement would like to try and eliminate this aspect of human behavior from the military (or any other institution that falls under its control), but it is doomed to failure.

They are going to try, but they will only end up with perverse results. All entirely predictable and all bringing with them only misery and frustration.

Enigma4you

68W58,

I agree and I think you said what I as trying to say.

The Military tries in many ways to equate it’s self with the civilian world when it come to sexaul equality, however there is no civilain equal to the military.

We take young men and women who in many cases have never had any responsibility and thrust them into training and teach them to think and react in a certain way.

Lets use for example an office romance, it happens and when its not overt in your face in most cases nothing is said.

If the Mail room guy and the receptionist are having a fling its rarely a problem, unless the mail room guy has had a fling with the secretary and the IT girl. The the receptionist will be given a warning that the mail room guy is a player.

In the Military its not supposed to happen at all, The mail room guy may be a Junior enlisted, and the Receptionist or Secretary is senior to him.

Plus the fact that the military involves all aspects of a life. These young men and women are put in a situation that is a formula for trouble.

It happens at all levels, when its at a very senior level the person is allowed to retire, not tossed out with nothing but a BCD.

Ex-PH2

She comes from an entire generation of children who are now adults by age, who were trained to believe that anyone who touches you or invites you out on a date, or even looks at you sideways, is a sexual predator. They are so brainwashed about it that the red flags that would alert them to a real predator have been corrupted to include everyone.

This is not a healthy attitude toward sex. Sexual reproduction is hwo we arrive on this planet. There’s no way to get around it.

On the other hand, rape is not about sex; it’s a power trip and nothing else.

This unhealthy attitude toward a natural biological function has been hammered by the military into a dysfunctional fear of ‘others’ that leaves little to no room for healthy social interaction.

There is a vast difference between normal social interaction that leads to long or short-term relationships and being preyed upon, and this chick and her mentors haven’t learned it yet. In fact, the military is far more obssessed with sex now than it was when I was in the Navy. This SHARP does not seem to bring any results. In fact, it seems like a waste of time and money that could be spent on more important things.

Ms. Moerk, you can stop playing the victim’s song over there on your blog. Your refusal to accept criticism of your attitude speaks volumes about you. I do hope that you figure out some day that you screwed your own pooch this time. I doubt that anyone will trust you enough now to want to have anything to do with you unless it’s absolutely necessary. If you EVER get over your own obssession with sex and stop being a snake, let the world know, okay?

Meantime, you are an incredibly crashing bore.

Eric

The painful thing that I see is there are service members out there who are ready to throw the EO card out in a NY Minute if they think it’ll help them.

My past battalion commander was so staunch with her EO card that even when she was violating Army Values, lying, committing fraud, etc., the next two higher commanders were afraid to do anything to her. She should’ve been fired, but their attitude came down to “If I fire her, she’ll claim I did it because she’s female, I wanna get that star…”

While she would have thrown it, the unit personnel, especially key leaders, gave enough evidence that it would’ve been proven frivolous. Instead, higher commanders failed the Soldiers in the unit by siding with her and their own careers, rather than doing the “hard right” choice of firing her worthless ass.

I’m sure we all know personnel who would throw the EO card in order to get their way or to get out of something. Whether she is taking this “personally” due to her past experience or not, she’s now going to be added to that stable of personnel who will abuse the purpose of EO and SHARP.

Eric

Good for you for reaching out, It is always good to have more information to try to see the whole picture.

I think the SHARP Director needs to be taught how the chain of command works as well. I don’t see where Dr Altendorf has been in the military, though I could be wrong. Perhaps she needs training on how command teams work and their purpose. (She can sit in the same class as Moerk!)

What’s the first thing the IG asks you when you talk to them about filing a complaint? “Did you talk to your chain of command?” “No? then go talk to them, come back to me if they don’t do anything.”

The SHARP Director should’ve done the same thing, OR at most said “I’ll pass this along to the SARCs/UVAs of those units and they can deal with it. It isn’t a Pentagon level issue.”

That’s really the biggest part of this all that pisses me off. Setting up other NCO Chains for FAILURE by elevating this to echelons above reality. When I was a 1SG, if other 1SGs didn’t come to me first and even went to the CSM with something, I’d chew their ass over it and my CSM at the time was awesome so he’d support me in that. It would only take one time in my battalion and they’d get the jist of it. You owe it to your peers to give them time to resolve something.

I’m guessing those troops’ 1SGs will have the harshest response for Moerk, but will handle it one on one with her. Godspeed to them.

Ex-PH2

Oh, God, will she even be able to go into work and face the day?!?!?!?!?!?

Eric

I’m guessing she will with no problem. However, at this point everyone in her unit and even higher unit and higher command teams will be intimidated by her from now on because they know if it comes down to her getting “offended” she will go right to the top echelon above reality.

Anyone who outranks her will be walking on eggshells around her, but holding her in disdain when they’re not around her.

Moerk, Altendorf, and Bromberg.

Well, I’m sure its just a coincidence that all three names involved are Germanic.

Odd, Moerk looks nothing like a person of Germanic heritage. Rather she has beady little dark eyes and a large, prominent nose. I wonder what this means?

I wonder what Bromberg and Altendorf look like?

If one were to really want to free their mind and understand what is going on and why they’d take a look into the Russian Revolution. You’ll find a lot of beady eyed ‘Germans’ there as well. You’d also find out that their political commissars were nearly all ‘Germans’ too…just like our military.

Ex-PH2

Beady little eyes and a prominent nose? Sounds like Salmation ancestry to me. Conscripts of the Roman Army.

Actions have consequences, E-8 Moerk – remember that. While you may have had good intentions in trying to correct the Soldiers that made the video, you threw it all away when you decided to go to “Big Army” and complain, instead of contacting the SGM/1SG of the unit that the Soldiers belong to and telling them, “I think you have a few Soldiers that are misusing social media.” A phone call or e-mail to the unit SNCO was all that needed to happen, but that seemed to be too much of a bother for you to do. You even admitted that your anger got the best of you when you saw the video and likely clouded your judgement in the actions you took.

So, now you are, or soon will be experiencing the backlash of your actions. But, it is only the start – how many of your fellow SNCO’s will feel that they can trust you with any matter now? How about the officers, NCO’s and junior Soldiers in your unit? My guess is that when you go back to work, you will be treated as a pariah – nobody will trust you with anything of a confidential or personal nature again, out of fear of you running to “Big Army” again.

One last thing – you love to use the word “misogynistic” when talking about men who disagree with you. Well, here is one word that I would like to use to describe you – narcissist, because “It’s All About You”. How about spending some time in the barracks being a real mentor to both male and female Soldiers, teaching them about being better people, in and out of uniform, instead of plugging yourself into social media? Trust me, it is amazing the things you can do by just being a mentor for someone and interacting with people face-to-face. Or, are you afraid that they will see the “real” Katina Moerk?

Mike Warden

One day soon, the US Army will go up against a very determined and hard enemy. They will NOT give a damn about political correctness or sexual harassment. The only thing this (hardened) army will care about will be victory. Soft crap of which this idiot 1st. Sgt. promotes will go to the dung heap quickly. 1st. Sgt. Moerk will no doubtedly be looking (frantically)for those evil men to assist and protect her when this happens. When it does, I would suggest she yell AR’s at the incoming enemy. I’m sure they will be paralyzed with fear.

Duncan McDonut

I’m sure ISIS, the NORKS and CHICOMS all have one hell of a SHARP program. With all the asshurt and “misogny” on the internet and in the military when will she find time to do her job? I don’t excuse what the guys said (not that I know or care) but with all the stolen valor online and in real life, who would really believe someone trying to pull rank on them. Yes, on the internet nobody knows if you’re a dog who smells like a bear.

Then again when I was in, it NCOs were allowed to be NCOs. It was sufficient enough for the First Shirt to say, “Knock that shit off” and 99% of the time it ceased. Rather than kick things up the ladder, First sergeants would give a young airman the choice “We can do this my way or we can go talk to the Commander.”

propsguy

I hate to say it but it’s going to take another Kasserine Pass or two to clean up all this political correct , social warrior bullshit.

ARCOM… Umm a bit much. She could have received a letter of appreciation, AAM (impact) or they could have put it as a PCS bullet, was there such a huge impact to the unit and to the army. Bernath is now trolling the original article at military.com.

Mustang1LT

Yes he is and I have never seen a more disjointed rant in my life. I think he’s finally gone off the deep end. This may be his last push to win the Tournament. Looks like Heavy Chevy, the Rotund Ranger, and Forgin’ Frank Visconi will need to step up their games to fight off this late surge by the Dog-Taper Extraordinaire!

I’ve been saying this for a while. When others have waxed and waned, Ol’ Danny Boy has been as constant with his crazy like an elephant with the runs.

Can’t remember to put gas in his aircraft, can’t remember to put links in his rants.

Flagwaver

I can’t believe that he copy/pasted one of his websites on Military.com

Also, aspecialdayguide.com has been down for a while. I don’t think anyone told him about that, though.

I wonder if the 1SG knows that a man of Bernath’s caliber is now trying to come to her assistance with his conspiracy theory about the American Legion being the new Illuminati? I mean, since they seem to run the entire government.

My god. I read his shit. That dude is unhinged. And why does he always say self murder? Is that a fancy “lawyer” term for suicide? That guy is coming unglued.

Yeah, I had to go see for myself, and I left a few links in my reply.

The Tualatin VFW still lists him as a member.

And yet, while the other active members are out doing good things in the community, bernitwit the witless is pursuing some vague perception that his idiot stories have value and….

Oh, I just cannot go on without falling down laughing. This dude is one crankcase that’s completely sprung a leak.

This kills me. Especially since she’s wearing a Screaming Eagle patch. I may be a 1LT now, but myself along with some damn fine very politically incorrect men AND women gave a lot as lower enlisted Soldiers in 1/327 during deployments to Iraq. I learned in those days that problems get handled at your level unless you run out of ideas or have a lost cause. This lesson guided me through OCS, and has served me well for over 10 years. It’s part of the initial counseling I give all incoming Soldiers and NCOS. The NCOS and Officers in those Soldier’s COC deserved the same professional courtesy and God help this MSG Moerk if she has any problems in her unit.

It’s a snowball. I’ve never seen it, but I’ve read about it. There was a unit in my State (National Guard) that all the shitballs were sent to. They had a problem with the 1SG being a snitch, so they kept things from him. It began building up, heaping behind a closed door, until one incident when it all spilled into the open.

When the state IG hit the unit and found how long things were piled up, heads rolled. One head, specifically. That of the Top.

Her blog has now gone private.
What a surprise.
Any commander she works with from now on will wonder,”if this doesn’t work out to her satisfaction will the next message I get be from DA?”
