Renamed military bases will have their former Confederate names restored

| June 11, 2025 | 63 Comments

President Donald Trump announced that the military bases renamed under Joe Biden will have their original Confederate names restored. Trump argued that we won a lot of battles from these military bases. Charlie Kirk posted on X that these were the names they had when Americans trained at their locations during World War I and World War II. Familiar names like Fort Lee, Fort A.P. Hill, and Fort Hood, etc., will come back.

From The Post Millennial:

“For a little breaking news, we are also going to be restoring the names to Fort Pickett, Fort Hood, Fort Gordon, Fort Rucker, Fort Polk, Fort AP Hill and Fort Robert E Lee,” Trump said during remarks delivered at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

The bases were renamed under the Biden administration in 2023, following a recommendation from a naming commission. Fort Bragg, for example–one of the most prominent installations in the country–was renamed Fort Liberty at the time.

“We won a lot of battles out of those forts. It’s no time to change. And I’m superstitious, you know, I like to keep it going, right? I’m very superstitious,” Trump said. “We want to keep it going. So that’s a big story.”

In February, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth changed the name of Fort Liberty back to Fort Bragg.

“Pursuant to the authority of the Secretary of Defense, Title 10, United States code section 113, I direct the Army to change the name of Fort Liberty, North Carolina to Fort Bragg, North Carolina,” Hegseth said, announcing the change. “That’s right, Bragg is back.”

Q. Did tearing down statues and renaming bases help at all?
A. No. Actually things got worse.

Ok. A failed experiment. Put things back.

Pulling the pictures off of packages of rice, butter and syrup didn’t do shit either!

5JC

Did too. I’m starting to think Aunt Jemiah never even made any syrup.

I’m especially fond of those “woke” ‘tards efforts to depict Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill that actually used Aunt Jemima because they didn’t know what she looked like.

Is that Libs heads I hear exploding? My own RINO Kongress Klown Kritter was major part of that “Re-Naming Committee”. Despite thousands of letters/calls/emails from his district, he still helped ram this bullsh*t thru.

Now…put the Reconciliation Peace Memorial back in Arlington where it belongs…and all of the other War Memorials.

Jay

Love how the Trump Admin is trolling everyone. Bragg was named after Braxton Bragg, confederate General. Now…it’s named after WWII Silver Star recipient PFC Roland Bragg.

Benning was named after confederate General Henry Benning. Now it’s named after WWI DSC recipient Fred Benning.

Masterclass….

KoB

Really wanna see Libs heads explode…Re-name Fort Rucker for Pvt Amos Rucker, a wounded Combat Veteran.

And how!

Far as I’m concerned the Amnesty of December 1868 resolved that mess. The manufactured, phony, “attention seeking” rage of the present day is fucking retarded. Virtue signaling at its finest.

Unfortunately, renaming is not free… The publicity stunt was costly the first time around, undoing it won’t be free.

Odie

True, but I consider it money well spent.

Fyrfighter

the first time was a complete waste, but sometimes ya gotta send money to do the right thing, like Trump is doing now.

5JC

Still don’t like bases names after traitorous Democrats but the new names weren’t much of an improvement so here we are.

Anonymous

These should at least find another, more effective Hood than J.B. to rename that place in Killeen, TX.

5JC

Never heard of him before I joined the Army. Never heard of Cavazos until they renamed the base. They should have renamed it after Roy Benavidez. Not only was he from Texas he was one the baddest mofos that ever lived.

Anonymous

Agreed. Would’ve been better.

SFC D

Gotta be the toughest sonofabitch that ever wore the uniform.

FuzeVT

Is it typical to wear the Medal of Honor ribbon and medal? Ribbon no medal, of course but Medal and ribbon at the same time.

He’s a Medal of Honor recipient and a bad ass to boot, so, you know, I wouldn’t say nothin’, but just wondering.

Cptsmith

The medal was probably worn for the portrait and it would be a pain in the ass to keep rearranging his ribbon rack every time.

5JC

I was wondering about his five purple hearts that he had and aren’t visible.

Graybeard

I actually got to meet him in person once, long before I knew who he was. Dressed just like this.
I was working private security in a building in downtown Houston when he was a speaker & guest of honor at a banquet held in the upstairs dining facility.
I was used to evaluating for threats, and when he walked in I knew in my gut he was a major threat, and one I could never handle if it came to that.
He politely asked how to get to the elevator for the club, and I told him. A nice an polite a man as one could ask.
But I knew he was a fighter such as I had never before encountered, and could never hope to equal.

Deckie

He has a ship named after him, I believe. Think it’s a Bob Hope Class LMSR.

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

That’s cool that the legendary Bob Hope has a whole class of ship named after him

HT3

Its amazing how the names stayed the same through the tumultuous 60’s, but are going back and forth recently. The forts/camps were named after local Confederate aka Democratic heroes, and then the Dems are the ones that wanted them removed makes no sense. Of course a party that doesn’t know what a woman is or thinks a man can have a baby, doesn’t have any sense…

Forest Bondurant

Suck it Liberals.

Now change the names of all things named after rayciss Democrats (e.g., Woodrow Wilson Bridge) and remove all things resembling them.

Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neande

Ditto for KKK Kleagle Grand Master Kongress Kritter Robert Byrd.

Son of Rusty Shackleford

I used to live in West By God Virginia; when I think of all the things there named after Byrd…smh!

Prior Service (RET)

Brilliant.

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

David Duke Elementary?

Prior Service (RET)

I’d propose Fort Reagan and Fort Trump, etc., but sadly I’d run out of great Republican leaders who actually cared about combat readiness long before I’d run out of bases, so simply going back to what they always were is fine. (Except Fort Benevidez, which should definitely happen.)

SFC D

Name changes on Army posts has kind of become a pointless exercise by now, but I absolutely love Trump and Hegseth poking their fingers in the progressive/liberals eyes over it.

Commissar

They are going to get renamed back. There has been a 30 point swing toward Dems in recent special elections.

Bragg might stay because of the compromise. But we should not be naming bases after confederates.

If California Secedes from the Union and loses the effort to remain sovereign, would you all support a Ft. Newsom? Or a fort named after a commander of a California secessionist regiment? Or would too see them as traitors?

SFC D

If California secedes from the union, which I fervently support, there won’t be any US bases for them to rename. Now, if you do secede, the USA could declare war against your seditious, treasonous state, declare martial law, and considered it occupied territory with a military governor. Real brilliant post there, hero. Really didn’t think that through, did you?

David

He went to a CA school, but I believe his state of residence is midwest the last time I looked.

Hey, someone found his girlfriend at a protest– in uniform, no less:

If he had a girlfriend, she would only be a beard. Not that he needs one.

A Proud Infidel®™

He SAID that he once had a girlfriend, and he bitched that she couldn’t find a decent-paying job despite having a “Piled-higher-and Deeper” (PhD) in Chinese Politics!

Idiocy knows no bounds or boundaries.

Elections in Canada don’t count. The rest is fever dreams.

Don’t you have some moltov cocktails to be throwing at a social security office somewhere?

“There has been a 30 point swing toward Dems in recent special elections.”

Yeahhh I’m gonna need at least one reference. Can ya do that?

The Gaetz district had a 24 point swing and the Dems still lost. That was understandable though, that dude was a complete turd.

A Proud Infidel®™

That and the Gaetz district is very solid red territory.

I really wonder if you don’t hyperventilate yourself while you post? I won that bet on you, I figured you’d come here shitting yourself over that!

Forest Bondurant

Without a reference to cite, I’ll grant the possibility there might be a 30-point swing in favor of liberal politicians in recent special elections, but that translates to three possibilities:

First, the statistics applied to get those numbers are bullshit, or –

Second, the polls might be accurate – meaning more moron dipshit liberals came out to vote -or- the ballot count was rigged in favor of, or –

Third – If Democrats get elected to those seats, they will underperform as they always do and utterly destroy whatever district/state that voted for them.

And then the politicians and their constituents will blame Trump.

Mason

Good thing none of the bases are being renamed for Confederates then.

Blaster

I fully support California’s independence!!!😉

A Proud Infidel®™

BUT as soon as California gained independence, how soon would they bawl to the USA for Foreign Aid? THIS enquiring mind wants to know.

Deckie

If he was granted amnesty for his actions like the ex-Confederates received in 1868– I might not like it, but what would be done would be done at that point.

Your fake rage over the events of 160 years past is embarrassing.

Amateur Historian

An idea for a Fort name:

Fort Knight. After Newton Knight. Defector from the Confederate Army. Led a rebellion in Jones County in Mississippi during the Civil War. Became a Republican (back when they had balls) afterwards.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newton_Knight

https://visitjones.com/historic_locations/newton-knight/

SFC D

Great idea, but would the name last longer than two weeks?

Amateur Historian

Given the political seesaw during presidential elections, unlikely. Still, good name is a good name.

Fyrfighter

I see what you did there.. well played sir!

Green Thumb

No problem with it as it should never have been done in the first place.

Seems most of the people complaining had never served in a military uniform.

But it will cost a lot of money.

Deckie

People saw an opportunity to virtue signal 160 years after a war I doubt many of them know anything about.

Who the bases were named after had no bearing or effect whatsoever on their personal lives. I mean, what’s next? Remove them from the graduate rolls at West Point? Sheesh… they were granted amnesty and rejoined society in 1868… reconstruction ended in 1877. Get over it.

A Proud Infidel®™

Robert E. Lee to this date is THE ONLY Graduate of West Point to do so with ZERO Demerits!

Deckie

Pretty amazing since I felt like in my college days the upper class found ways to make sure everyone got dinged at least ONCE.
