UPDATE (3/27): Counseling services are being offered at the school attended by a student who died following a shooting Wednesday at a Florence apartment complex.

Colbert Heights High School offered its condolences to the family of Ryland Calvert and to his classmates.

“During this difficult time, we are committed to supporting our students, staff, and families as we grieve together,” the school said, thanking the community for its support.

Earlier Thursday, Florence Police said that a juvenile — who was not named at the time — was shot and killed in an attempted robbery gone bad.

In a social media update, police said that officers responding to the scene found a deceased juvenile in the parking lot. According to police, the incident stemmed from a planned robbery involving the deceased and another juvenile targeting a third individual, who later came to the police department during the investigation.

Detectives worked through the night with assistance from the Florence/Lauderdale SWAT Team, executing search warrants in Franklin and Colbert counties.

At approximately 3 a.m., a juvenile was arrested and charged with felony murder and first-degree robbery. A hearing on Thursday set the juvenile’s bond at $100,000.

Police investigate ‘justified homicide’ in northeast Albuquerque

By KOB
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police are investigating what they describe as a “justifiable homicide” that happened overnight in northeast Albuquerque.

APD officers responded Friday at around 1:10 a.m. to reports of shots fired at an apartment complex, just south of San Mateo Boulevard and Osuna Road. They arrived and found a man dead with gunshot wounds.

Detectives investigated and say the man tried forcing his way into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment after a dispute. Her friend then stepped in and shot him.

After consulting with the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office, however, APD stated no charges will be filed at this time.
