Happy fourth of July to everyone. I finally made it to Fairbanks. Everything with the move went alright except for my Rottweiler defecting to Canada. He broke out of his travel kennel that was in the back of my truck and jumped ship. We reported him missing and he was found two days later. A family with three boys and a farm found and fell in love with him so we let them keep him.
Yeah … You never want to challenge the CPO Mess. We are deep in resources, committment, determination and focus. Ask our friend in Portlania … We will have the final OP and AD CON on all!

I remember when I was a small boy, Daddy and I would watch the weekly episodes of “VICTORY AT SEA” on the black and white television set in our living room.
Daddy is dead and buried, and a few months ago, I purchased the complete set of “VICTORY AT SEA” series on DVD from the AMAZON web site.
I wish I could have done that while Daddy was still alive, and I could have given it to him as a present.
“VICTORY AT SEA” really is one of the best military documentaries ever produced.

I use Google. I need to break the habit. Google’s lefty doodles piss me off. Today, the Fourth of July, Google seems to have outdone itself. No stars. No stripes. No fireworks. No mention of the Declaration of Independence, let alone the War for Independence. What Google offers is a strange-looking marching band being followed by what looks to me to be a small Indian sporting a feather. The marchers are rather grotesque figures and, what’s more, if you click on the doodle, you are transported to a UK (!) site that explains the doodle.

I finished intense PT today. It was confirmed that the rods and pins are rejecting and not doing as was hoped. Next up, round 2 to have them removed. No date as of yet.

The 4th July fireworks are going off right now. We live only a couple hundred meters from the site in town where they launch the fireworks. From where I sit, the fireworks sounds and feels like the incoming 107mm rocket and 81mm mortar indirect fire we received in Iraq on a regular basis. I really hate fireworks now; brings back too many memories; I wish they don’t do fireworks here any more…

Having the Purple Heart is the tough part; meeting the other criteria for membership really isn’t very difficult. Our friend, however, pretty clearly fails the “good moral character” part.
I had already been to their web site before I made the post. Defending those that we agree with is not that hard any of us. Defending someone that we can not stand the thought of is. They are free to define ‘good moral character’ as it applies to their group. I am free to define gutless political hacks for myself.
That letter from the SFA is in our archives somewhere. The widow was Mary Schantag. SFA told us that his membership wouldn’t have been approved in this day and age anyway – I guess they changed the membership requirements.
The main reason they booted him was for that picture at the Wall wearing the Green Beret and he defended himself saying that he was a member of the SFA and they authorized it – they claim that’s not true.
I get that part. I get that his conduct is offensive. I also get that he is a veteran like it or not. It just makes it worse to find out they are kicking him out for wearing the wrong hat at the wall or while he was taking a shit. Its a step too far. Unless there is some moral offense egregious enough to warrant his termination. The wrong hat hardly qualifies. You know I am fully aware it is not just a ‘hat’. If they cited his conduct after being called out, I could almost agree. This is an organization that is chartered by an act of Congress and should be held to a higher standard. You know as well as I that if we get a list of its members we will find all kinds of people with embellishments. Hold all of them to the same standard. You know me, I dont believe shit until I see it. Make every board member and officer in that organization fill out a 180 and watch their ass pucker.
I found it on Scotty’s thread about Thunderchickenshit. his letter saying that he had been “EXPELLED from the Special Forces Association” (Yes, EXPELLED was in caps on it)and the reasons were:
1.He claimed have been a fully qualified SF Soldier
2.He claimed to have served as an SF Soldier in Vietnam
3.He falsified parts of his membership application
4. He wore SF Insignia in violation of Army Regs
5.He disrespected other SFA Members (Dallas was just an Associate Member)
6. He disrespected the Widow of a deceased member

Agreed. That is not what is being cited as the reason for termination. If they list that conduct as reason for termination I will accept that decision, as I said what they are doing displays a gutless act.
I hope you realize that, for legal reasons, most of the behavior that these people engage in doesn’t make it to the pages of TAH. When it’s all over and everything is said and done, you’ll know all about it.
I have considered that. I hold little hope that this individual has any possibility of redemption. This is not about him. It is about an orgainization that is terminating one of its members. If they list a reason to terminate him for a immoral act sufficient I will sing their praises, give everyone a day to draw a crowd and kiss the ass of everyone that shows up. I know how to admit when I am wrong and do it with humility. I am stating that I doubt that will happen. They will use the political hack job of the gutless to site vague and ambiguous reasons. Dave, my guess is that Dallas had been a pain in the SFA’s ass for quite some time and the pic of him with the beret at the Wall was probably the final straw with them.
I look at it as “it’s there house, you follow their rules” when it comes to membership in any organization. I you are a member “in good standing” like 99% of those that join the SFA or other groups, you have noting to worry about. But if you make it a habit of lying about your past and generate a lot of heat for leadership, they can use a morals clause to suspend or revoke membership.
Dallas, like many of those that have embellished their service, had nothing to be ashamed of for serving during the Vietnam era. But to lie about one’s service because they felt they were not recognized for it at the time or any other issue shows that they have little to no self esteem for themselves or others that have served.
I completely understand your point. I generally do my homework before I make a post like this. I deal with these duds almost daily. I expect to be called on something if it is questionable. I would respect nothing less. There are times when I need to hear something I do not like. At points during our careers both Jonn and I were platoon sergeants. That experience transcends mere words. I know what it is like to lead Marines into the unknown. Not all the Marines I gave orders to loved me for it. I am pretty sure both of us put on our big girl panties most days. When that man says something it carries weight with me, enough to give me pause. This post of mine is about that pause. It is not about one man whose conduct is unbecoming. Kicking someone out of an SF organization is one thing, especially if his credentials are questionable. Being kicked out of an organization that is chartered by an act of Congress and has bled not once but twice requires a moment of pause. If it turns out that he slaps babies or pushes little old ladies into the street then so be it. When you force your opponent to lay down their FPF (final protective fire) one should tour the FEBA (forward edge of the battle area) first and insure they dont end up in the USMC (unlimited shit and mass confusion). On a side note, I am now curious how skinny this posting area can become.

So my wife put up a yellow ribbon and flags around the tree in front of our house which was really sweet. Apparently some shitbag came along and tore the bow off and stole the flags.
