Dude, he served in MI

| August 14, 2013

I used to listed to Steve Czaben everyday, and he had this funny thing where he grew up “on the mean streets of McLean Virginia” where some people were so broke they had carports and above ground swimming pools.  It always cracked me up, because McLean is about 2 lifetimes outside my price range, and that’s if I save money for once.

Anyway, this shit about Breanna Manning is absolutely killing me:

A military psychologist who treated Bradley Manning said there was no support available for him to cope with his gender identity disorder and that Manning suffered greatly in a “hyper-masculine environment” that was hostile towards gay soldiers.

Um, dude.  You served in MI.  You smuggled out the info on a Lady GaGa CD, and it didn’t draw anyone’s attention.

Seriously, name a less hyper-masculine group than MI.  I have nothing against MI, but the only people less hyper-masculine are the guys at DLI.  You could be sitting naked in a tub with Andy Dick, Antoine Dodson and Elton John while listening to Cher and stand a better than average shot of being more hyper-masculine than a random 35 series dude.

And we will have to pay for his incarceration and gender-reassignment (see Massachusetts)?

I feel robbed.

Just an Old Dog

Jeffery Dahmer had issues too. He didn’t get a pass.

NHSparky

Wow. I’ve known Sonar Techs who would call him out for being a whiny little bitch. That takes some SERIOUS doing.

Combat Historian

Hah Hah, I went from being an enlisted 11C mortar grunt to eventually become a reserve 35D field intel officer (after a short company-grade sojourn in OD). Going from an enlisted infantry MOS to becoming a reserve MI officer was quite a journey in un-masculinating my hyper-masculinity, believe me 🙂

Roger in Republic

As a 26K in the old Army Security Agency I can’t speak to the masculinity, super or otherwise, of today’s MI. But I do know that the army is not the place to cure a case of gender assignment disorder. Neither is it a place where one should expect any help for that “Condition”. How in the name of God did this little foreskin get or keep a clearance. We had people stripped for drinking, financial difficulties, and consorting with foreign nationals. Two article 15″s would get you assigned to the motor pool. A third would find you in the real army. How did a PFC ever get in to the Intel shack. The PC army is as guilty as Manning is for this breach. Heads should roll for this fiasco.

NHSparky

Heads SHOULD roll, and in a just world, would have long ago.

Then again, Hasan still breathes, too. TANJ.

Dude, I know several openly Gay 35 Series (male and female), and all are hyper-masculine, he’s just a weak minded turd who couldn’t hack it, mentally unstable, and lashed out. Shoot the little fuck and let’s go get pizza

NHSparky

Depends on what kind of pizza, Lucky. Some assclown tried to tell me SALMON pizza was good. SALMON? Fuck that.

Pizza is crust, sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. Period. And beer. Must. Have. BEER.

Lucky

Cheese, sauce, spices and Bacon, because we live in ‘Merica!!!!! And every time we eat Bacon, a Talib eats a HEAT round! I’m in a pissy mood, think ill go have Scotch (Sam Houston) and a cigar (a CLE Corojo)

Jon The Mechanic

You want a less manly MOS than MI?

Patient Administration specialist.
I know, I did it for 2 years in a Reserve hospital unit.

NR Pax

Pepperoni, jalapeno, garlic, extra cheese, sourdough crust. Why? Fuck you, that’s why! And beer so dark, it sucks the light out of the room.

As for Manning? Beat him until he’s no longer a bitch, then bury him in an unmarked grave. I’m cool with him being deceased when the burial happens.

Green Thumb

Between the CHU and the Port-Shitter, I bet he did “serve”.

Virtual Insanity

I spent a year as the S-2 of an Apache battalion. I had three great MIGs (military intelligence geeks) in my section, all three with mostly echelon-above corps experence.

Once trained to do tactical/operational intel, they totally rocked; but, man, they do not think like normal people.

A late-night discussion in the TOC could go zero to bizarre in 3.5 seconds.

Sandman

I’ve heard rumors that all of his teachers at the school house tried to keep him from being issued a clearance/allowed the MOS. However, it appears that he was pushed through in the name of numbers in order (just a guess here) support a bullet point on a Field Grade’s OER. Guessing that there was a push on to make sure that everybody with a pulse graduated at that time.

NCO’s that still remember the 30+% washout rate when we went through wonder what has gone wrong with the school house and are left to deal with the “projects” that get sent to us. We just don’t have the option of taking the conversation to the woodline like our Combat Arms peers do.

Fuck…. I was/am BOTH MI AND a DLI Alum, but I served in 2 Armored Cav regiments…. Is that ANY kind of a saving grace, or am I rife for ridicule the rest of my life??? Oh, and I patrolled the East German/Czech borders (if that will also give me any brownie points.)…

Lucky

NR PAX, right on Brother!

Virtual Insanity

Stu–as long as you didn’t patrol the border in a dress and ask you troop commander to call you Stuanna, I think you’re okay.

StuClark

@17… Guidon bearer for my TCO, and I always looked better than him… I loved the Cav (and that was when they were all-male units)…. Just sayin’

Ex-PH2

PIzza? You are WIENIES@!!!!!!

Pizza dough, then sauce. Follow with cheese, fresh garlic, bacon, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, chopped olives, sausage, extra pepperoni, extra cheese.

Guinness or Inde Coope or Goose Island.

Wienies! 😛 PPPPPPPPPfftt!

Nik

I’m cool with him being deceased when the burial happens.

But’s not a requirement, right? I mean…it’s ok if he’s deceased after the burial happens….or during. Right?

NavyChief

Being a DLI grad, I’d just like to say that the Networking dudes are the new Linguists!

NHSparky

PH2–I love ya and all, girlie, but WTF is all that rabbit food you’re putting on my pie?

Sorry, I’m spoiled. There are some really good north Boston places to get a slice that rival the best NYC has to offer. TSO, VOV, etc., will back me on this one.

Just Plain Jason

I don’t know…

I got nuthin…

NHSparky

Then again, there was a guy ordering a pizza in the shop to pick up on his way home and all we heard was, “Yeah, I want sausage…with extra sausage!”

Nah, that’s not ghey. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Ex-PH2

NHSparky, that is not rabbit food. Those are vitamins. Vitamins and fiber.

I didn’t put potatoes on that, you know. Or peppers.

Having attended DLI way back in the day, it always seemed to me a weird mix of people that included not only your basic academic types, but also marines who would get in fights and throw each other through windows, as well as some serious spooks you really didn’t want to ask too many questions about.

For what it’s worth, the Guardian story also buried a critical fact about the shrink’s testimony. According to Michael Worsley, Manning never told him he was having a gender identity crisis until the evening of May 8, 2010 just after the fistfight fetal-position supply closet freakout. So the question becomes this: How was the Army supposed to do anything about Manning’s immediate problem at FOB Hammer if the little reptile spent six months not telling his therapist what was going on?

It might also be pointed out that the Guardian has a very definite agenda. The backstory is that it started as a Marxist-Leninist newspaper which has been having a hard time getting traction in a post-Soviet world. The only thing really keeping it alive is that it is supported by a trust fund, and doesn’t have to compete in the same way other newspapers do. Something to consider the next time you read, say, a Glenn Greenwald going off on an anti-American rant.

There may be something to the hypermasculinity claim.

After all, Breanna hit a girl and she kicked the crap outta him.

Nice Antoine Dodson reference TSO.

Hey, I was at DLI, and enjoyed the experience very much. Being one of the few men in a school filled with male like service members and very female girls (some of these very pretty and in need of real male companionship) was very satisfying. I highly recommend it. Bow chica bow bow. Hetero Homosapian males were in short supply. Hell, we called the Air Force girls’ “marine corps air mattresses.”

As my good friend in Australia says, vegetables aren’t food. They’re what food eats.

When, where, which 2ACR unit were you with?
I was with the 614th Maint, 2SupCom, Nurnberg, 78-82.

Ha! This convo cracks me up big time, cause I see this crap in my own family. My older brother is prior enlisted MI, and now is commissioned in the MI branch. And me….I still have fond memories of humping HE rounds out to the guns in the Stan and delivering some serious hatred to some well deserving terrorist pukes. My brother told me he felt right at home in AIT when he enlisted lol. Thanks for the chuckle guys!

And for the record, I like my pizza like I like my women….hot, greasy, and covered in pepperonis lol

Just an Old Dog

“There may be something to the hypermasculinity claim.

I remember reading about that on a thread here. I am better she was more embarrassed about beating his ass then he was of taking an asswhupping.
It’s a pretty low level of pussy that makes a woman feel sorry for him after beating his ass.

ADA always seemed a little light in the ACUs. so to speak

Ex-PH2

I guess I’m just too complicated. I like the more complex stuff, layers of this and that.

That does not mean I don’t go for a good pepperoni pizza if the sauce is just right. Gigio’s has always had the best of that. http://gigiospizzeriaevanston.com/

NavCWORet

I think Manning is more of a “meat lovers” kinda guy.

ExHack

@38: Specialist Showman seemed less sorry for him than concerned about his statements that the flag meant nothing to him, his behaviors that indicated he JUST MIGHT be a security risk, etc. Definitely more of a man than Breanna.

FrostyCWO

Awesome to have so many DLI alums here. I had no idea! RU in 1996-1997 and SC in 2002-2003. And I will refrain from lumping myself in with the geek squad because, mostly, the truth hurts.

CPT Martin

I couldn’t agree more as a former 11A who is now commanding a MI Co, masculinity is not in abundant supply. I will say that 11Bs can get pretty “gay” too sometimes, but who doesn’t like a “good game” or “shower hockey”
every now and then? As far as pizza I can’t wait to get back to the world and order a big texas pizza from Luigi’s, those from FTCKY know what I’m talking about.

FatCircles0311

I had to look up what DLI is because I never heard of it until I got out and went on the interwebs…..

Grunt life!

@13 VI, I think the reason AIS/MI types are a little weird comes from the fact that in my day 65/69 only the top 10 percent of army enlistees were recruited or accepted . All of us were RA in a time when the army was overwhelmingly US. The average ASA member hat two years of college, The force was nearly all white and we needed a preliminary TS clearance to start AIT. We had several people pulled for clearance problems while we were in casual status. There were lots of very smart people in my Electronic war fare repair classes. The weirdest guys were the crptanalists. It took a dude with very odd brain waves for that job. Most of the guys I served with were out of the box thinkers, and as you know people get nervous when you are outside their boxes. Most of our senior NCO’s were from the real army and we no trouble converting them to our way of thinking. Those who resisted were not around very long. For years whenever people asked me if I liked the army my answer was always, “I was not in the Army, I was in the ASA.”

AbnGramps

Seriously, name a less hyper-masculine group than MI?
Got you all beat….BAND!!! 42R RULES!!!

NRPax

@20: I’m not too fussy. It’s not like I’d bother checking for vitals. Too much effort.

Hondo

Roger in Republic: concur. I’m not MI, but have supported them during various assignments over the years, and have been assigned to some IC organizations.

As a group, they’re damned smart folks in general, with some truly brilliant individuals in the mix. Some are also incredibly capable and brave individuals. But some if not many of them indeed seem to think – and at time, act – a bit differently from most of the rest of us.

Hondo

And as for pizza: thick crust or deep dish. I’ll eat it with pretty much any of the normal stuff on it except anchovies or pineapple.

“Hawaiian pizza” – that sh!t just ain’t right. IMO that’s an abomination and a perversion of pizza.
