Another vet chokeholds a dude to death

Esteban Lowery trying to murder a cop

Not that one that’s been in the news. Though this one was also the hero of the day.

Local media out of Bowling Green, Kentucky dove into a case from June 2023. A Bowling Green cop was lucky to have a citizen rider with him. The unnamed US Army specialist from Fort Campbell was checking out police work for after his impending ETS. The cop and rider responded to a disturbance call that jumped bad awfully fast (as these things tend to do).

The above screencap is from the cop’s bodycam. The suspect was acting erratically, refused to obey commands, and then drew a pistol. He shot the cop several times as he emptied his gun. For whatever reason, the cop engaged the threat with his Taser, and got shot six times for his troubles. Fortunately for him (and the civilians in the building), the unnamed member of the E-4 Mafia noticed the bad guy’s gun slide lock open. He took that opportunity to go on the offensive, and engaged the threat (while himself unarmed and after the bad guy literally just gunned down a cop). Putting him in a chokehold after some tussling, and with another citizen kicking bad guy’s gun away, he stopped the threat. Permanently.

There’s a lot to chastise the tactics of the uniformed cop here, so I’d not like to go down that path. Rather, I’d like to find out the name of the soldier so he can never have to buy a drink in any cop bar in the world ever again. I’d also like to see him get a Soldier’s Medal.

Bowling Green Daily News has the video and a detailed rundown of the day’s events.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Soldier’s Medal.

Old tanker

I hope his command gets on the stick and makes it happen.

Soldier’s Medal, with brass balls device.

No shit, most people scatter like a herd of deer when the rounds start flying. Especially if they are unarmed and not their monkeys and circus.

MIRanger

That young man definitely needs to be awarded the Soldier’s Medal for engaging and neutralizing an armed (and unstable) individual who had just tried to kill a Police Officer. Glad the Grand Jury did the right thing, now his Chain of Command needs to do the right thing.

Just like all combat arms soldiers or just soldiers in a combat area, not every cop knows how they will react when things get lethal. Some, (most fortunately) rise to the situation and some don’t. Pretty much like the phenomenon of soldiers either not firing their gun in combat or deliberately missing. Something that has been known since at least the Civil War.

There is a hell of a dichotomy between training Police to be warriors when the time comes and the public complaining about cops being “militarized”. Who knows what the perfect blend is. I sure as hell don’t and I was in both professions. I got criticized by superiors in the Army for being too much like a cop and the PD criticized me for being too much like a soldier.

OT, what do you think of the possibility that the LEO had, in the back of his head, “If I shoot this guy my career is toast?”

Consequences of higher-ups not backing you up play into the “what-ifs” we deal with.

SFC D

Soldier’s Medal, absolutely. With the bonus of making liberal heads explode.

KoB

At the very least. A consideration to “promote ahead of his peers” should be made, too.

BZ, Young Sir.

The dead pusbag is melanated. Get ready for ” He wuz a good boi. About to get his life together ” BurnLootMurder, Al Sharpton….the whole dogshit enchilada.

Tallywhagger

Would you think that the soldier might be granted and interview with the PoPo? Fellow is looking for a job and pretty well demonstrated his enthusiasm ability for that sort of work 🙂

For cripes sake, reenlist the man. Don’t let that one get away. Pin his Soldiers Medal and get him his choice of assignment. But do not let that man ETS.

Claw

“But do not let that man ETS” – Roger that, and what would be even better is to keep him around for a good while and then have him apply for an increase in his retired pay (which is allowed under Title 10, USC3991).

The obituary starts out with “was bestowed rest for his soul” and with that in mind, the Whiz Wheel®™ spins:

Esteban DeJesus Lowery (FLTPSM)* 36 x 9 = 324

*Full Loony Tunes Past Shower Mold (H/T to Ret_25X)
