Pete Hegseth tapped for SecDef

| November 13, 2024

Pete Hegseth

Trump’s wasting no time in very publicly building his cabinet. The latest addition was announced last night, and is kind of a surprise to say the least. Trump’s tapped Fox News host Pete Hegseth to be the next Secretary of Defense. Hegseth’s been a long time supporter of the Trump agenda, and it seems that Trump is picking “loyalists” (as the media has been calling them) for his cabinet this time around. He’s definitely picking people from outside the swamp this time, which I think most in the MAGA movement will agree is a good thing.

Hegseth’s military bona fides started with his commissioning as an infantry officer in the Minnesota National Guard after he graduated Princeton in 2003. He served a deployment to Gitmo, then deployed to Iraq, and then Afghanistan. According to Wikipedia, he’s still in the IRR as a major. He received the CIB, two BSMs, and a couple of ARCOMs for his service.

While I was on Wikipedia for Mr. Hegseth, I took a gander at the left-wing site’s list of “Controversies” of his. Among those listed are;

In July 2019, Hegseth said that one of the Muslim members of Congress, Rashida Tlaib, had a “Hamas agenda”.

In August 2019, he lamented that “young kids voting” are worried about the adverse effects of climate change. Hegseth also criticized universities for teaching students about “environmentalism and radical environmentalism” rather than a “real threat” such as Islamic extremism.

In January 2020, Hegseth expressed strong support for President Trump’s decision to kill Iranian General Qasem Soleimani. He also called on Trump to bomb the Iranian homeland, including cultural sites if they were storing weapons.

In February 2020, amid the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, Hegseth said that Democrats were “rooting for coronavirus to spread. They’re rooting for it to grow. They’re rooting for the problem to get worse.” Hegseth suggested the Omicron variant of COVID-19 was made up by Democrats to help them in the 2022 midterm elections, saying “Count on a variant about every October, every two years.”

Tlaib has since absolutely proven without a doubt that she has a Hamas agenda. Young kids are voting as if the climate change hysterics haven’t been wrong in every single prediction for the last 50+ years. Killing Soleimani was a great decision, and if Iran hides weapons in cultural sites, then they are legitimate military targets (obviously). He was wrong about there being a new COVID variant every two years, but Democrats were absolutely rooting for COVID to get rid of Trump in 2020.

If I’m judging Hegseth only by what his detractors editing Wikipedia have to say about him, then I can see why Trump thinks he’ll make a great SecDef!

I’d like to axe him a question about that one time on Flag Day.

HT3

The Swamp & Military Industrial Complex have their collective panties in a bunch because PH is NOT a member of their club. That’s what Trump ran on, and the people have spoken that is what they want. DJT won’t make the same personnel mistakes he made the first time around.

Devtun

Yes, and as others have said – it was an axe-ident!

5JC

If that all they don’t have much. Dick Cheney shot a guy in the face and now they all love the old crooked neocon.

Fyrfighter

And even hunting with that dick Cheney was safer than going for a drive with Teddy Kennedy

Odie

The “controversies ” are what those on the left consider to be a top priorities.

Odie

Their top priorities.

5JC

I think what upset them the most was him sending back his Princeton diploma and telling people not to send their kids there due to their agenda.

rgr769

It was his Harvard post grad diploma.

11B-Mailclerk

Harvard, Princeton, … one of those Marxoid diploma mills.

Odie

Harvard, Princeton….. aren’t they interchangeable?

liright47

I’m happy for Pete Hegseth and also happy for America!

Didn’t see this coming. Interesting choice and the way some are reacting says it struck a nerve. Be watching this with interest.

I also like the new Border Czar.

Fuck. Yeah.

Level 10 fucking super troll 8D chess master. We will never see anything like this again in our lifetime probably for not the next 50 years.
I swear to God, P. Diddy, Epstein, JFK assassination Roswell aliens all this shit is just gonna be fucking exposed and disclosure and the galactic Federation is going to invite us and Jesus is coming for dinner, Again.
They’re gonna have to create a new word in the English language for just how unbelievably epic spectacular amazing unprecedented this is.

The best part is that he was originally an Obama appointment.

5JC

The “weird trick” is when the border isn’t wide open like during the first three years of demented hooker, opioid deaths go down. It’s almost like there is some kind of relationship there. If I were a Democrat I’d say it needs more study. Good thing I’m not.

After the JFK coverup commision, they said in 50 years, the papers would be released. So much for that. I doubt we will find out the US and their Alien friends because the people that handle this stuff say the info is on a need to no basis and you don’t need to know from the higher ups as said to former Pres. Clinton who said he was going to find out what was going on.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

That image requires a laughing emoji…Mr. Homan is outstanding, and blunt which makes him unusual in DC and wonderful.

A Proud Infidel®™

CLOSE the US-Mexico Border and deport, deport, DEPORT!!!

Eggs

I’d have a beer with him.

Steve1371

Make that an Armed Forces Brewing Co beer and I will join ya.

5JC

They were also bitching about him being “young”. Rumsfeld was actually the youngest SECDEF the first time he did the job and he did ok then. The post Vietnam 70s were a tough time for defense all around.

All that as it is, the MIC is going nuts since he came from outside the industry and anything could happen. Suffice it to say that media rubber stamping everything the POTUS does dies in the third week of January. Going to pure hilarity when the peaceniks in the media start to question cutbacks of government spending on contracts at Raytheon.

SFC D

“the MIC is going nuts since he came from outside the industry and anything could happen.”

And I’m just fine with that. Enough of the pre-purchased retired 4-star yes-men. It’s time to shake things up.

5JC

I’m with you charging the ramparts but then I think, JFK.

5JC

It’s hard to find true reformers who are “experienced” because they will also be deeply entrenched and invested in the system.

11B-Mailclerk

“Experienced” is often synonymous with “compromised”.

thebesig

You could tell by his current selections that he’s taking the gloves off.

Zeus-Donald-Trumps-second-term-with-label
Chulai

I don’t dislike Hegseth but don’t know that’s enough to qualify him for the position.

SgtM

Well he could hire a yes man like Austin “Lord Dark Vader” and just rubber stamp everything. I personally would find it a hoot if an E-4 mafia type was made an advisor to the joint chiefs, and they were forced to actually listen to him. Shit in the barracks and chow halls would then improve. The Sgt Majors are not doing shit.

SFC D

I kinda think the E-4 mafia would approve of Hegseth. If they existed…

11B-Mailclerk

E-4 Mafia got Veep.
(Grin)

SFC D

Good point!

5JC

What qualifications are required other than carrying out policy as directed by the POTUS? Literally a top notch intern could do it.

Green Thumb

Knowing the job?

11B-Mailclerk

It’s a civilian position.

Green Thumb

And?

Chulai

I like to think that Hegseth would speak his mind rather than just carry out policy as directed, I also hope Trump would be quiet and at least listen.

David

Bwaahhhaaaahhaaasa…. God, yer killing me.

Wtf is with the Minnesota National Guard choices?

Green Thumb

More inexperienced choices.

But this ain’t the past, this is the present and so unsure of the comparison.

We don’t need another four years of stupid shit.

timactual

“speak his mind rather than just carry out policy as directed”

Those are not mutually exclusive choices.

rgr769

According to many who have had sit-downs with Trump, they have impressed with him being a good listener.

Green Thumb

I have heard that.

SpaceChairForceOne

Considering what the last 4 years have been like… I’m all in on this choice.
One of my favorite conservative websites has a great comment from Scott Jennings on CNN Tuesday night –
“I’d say I’ve had just about enough of the so-called insiders running the Defense Department, and I think we ought to give Pete Hegseth a chance.”
Hell yes with that – tip of the hat and prayers for his success from a fellow Iraq vet.

rgr769

Anyone who can do that New Yawk swim with the Seals across the East River and jog to the 9-11 monument without assistance shows me someone with determination. I have read one of his several books. He has a Harvard master’s degree in Public Administration. The man has his stuff together.

11B-Mailclerk

And, mostvessentially, he is -not- a product of our highly dysfunctional GO/FO pipeline.

LTC Kratman’s commentary on that pipeline is scathing and spot on.

Renegade

i’ve been in since Clinton, and I’m extremely giddy with this choice. why am i in iraq last year being forced to learn about pride and trans and woke shit?

Army-Air Force Guy

Hopefully this year you won’t have too.

Army-Air Force Guy

Or next year rather.

Green Thumb

Does he have the experience? Seems like he has been away from the military from quite some time to include the industrial complex.

Thoughts?

5JC

Huge strength in what you say.

SFC D

“Seems like he has been away from the military from quite some time to include the industrial complex.”

That, in itself, is a yuge qualification. Fresh eyes on things and no lobbyists calling plays for him.

Green Thumb

We just has four years of gross inexperience.

timactual

Nobody has the experience until they do the job.

Green Thumb

Not my point.

11B-Mailclerk

The qualified and experienced professionals were all totally cool with Iraq and Afghanistan.

I think we have had enough of such fatuous failmaven experts.

“This needs to be victorious, quickly and finally” said none of them.

“With all due respect sir, I will resign publicly if you go ahead with this shit salad” said none of them.

Trump would be well served by cashiering every FO/GO and starting fresh. Then finding the handful that were not useless to advise the replacements.

The experts are the problem, and it is obvious they are a major root of our military disfunction.

Remember “no more Vietnams”? I do. Well, how many more Vietnams do we get before we change how we pick and promote Generals.

Because they went along to get along, and dammit this has to stop.

Chest full of bling. Didn’t really win a thing.

Green Thumb

No issue with the GO comment.

I am just cautious on going all-in with an unproven hand.

timactual

How many “proven” SecDef candidates are there? How does somebody become “proven”?

rgr769

Exhibit A is that clown 0bama made SecNav, Mabus. IIRC, you swabbies thought he was a disaster for the Navy.

timactual

“…you swabbies…”

I am not now, nor have I ever been, a “swabby”.

timactual

Yeah, I’ve had my fill of “experts”, too. And not just in the military/intelligence fields, either. We also have education “experts” who spend increasing amounts of money to get, at best, mediocre results.

timactual

What exactly is your point? That he didn’t graduate from Secretary-of-Defense School to learn how to be SecDef? It’s a political position, not a technical one.

ChipNASA

Just sharing this year because I saw it a little while ago on Book of Faces and I laughed so hard, I almost pissed my pants. 😅

Not a lifer kiss ass like most of his predecessors. Seems more concerned with unfucking the mess politicians and their military toadies created. Good luck to him.

USMC Steve

Probably because he was at times a recipient of the fucking that occurred when higher up did stupid shit.

rgr769

That smarmy POS Paul Reikoff, that was outed here, has been attacking Hegseth on line. He and the rest of the critics of this nomination are mostly Progs and D-rats. I could care less about their opinions. What are the qualifications of the of that scrunt who is Secretary of the Army and never wore the uniform?

Eggs

Add Liz Warren’s opinion to the dumpster as well.

SpaceChairForceOne

I’d be happy to add Liz Warren herself to the dumpster.
Then would be more than happy to take that “trash” to the curb…

ChipNASA

Like I said….”Liz Cheney” and I’m not wrong and neither are you … 😉

ChipNASA

I read that as Liz Cheney

Eggs

As Frank Slade said –

“Wherever you are out there, FUCK YOU TOO!!” 🤣

Eggs

To Liz, Dick, etc

rgr769

And Liawatha’s qualifications to be a senator and serve on the military defense committee are what? Her years as a law professor, jobs she fenagled by falsely claiming she is part Injun.

She was a convincing liar for one.

5JC

Well, she started on her knees as an intern to Bill Clinton. And then progressively worked to areas of greater responsibility in DA ND DOD. So she is a swamp dweller through and through. Exactly what we are trying to change

ChipNASA

Liz Cheney AGAIN…and I’m not certain she hasn’t gobbled some weiners as well to advance her career.

A Proud Infidel®™

One thing is for sure about Liz Cheney, and it’s that she rode her father’s coattails to get into Office, her family is part of the DC Insider Country Club just like the McCains, and Meghan McCain rode her poppa’s coattails as well.

rgr769

So, the present SecofArmy performed her earliest “service” at the Resolute Desk. That is certainly a fine qualification for running the largest ground component of our armed forces. I can just see the pride of our young infantrymen looking at her pic on the wall in the day room next to that of the Army Chief of Staff and memorizing her position in the Chain of Command for that promotion board.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

You spelled “Jerkoff” incorrectly.

USMC Steve

No, Trump is picking people who have their heads out of their asses, and are likely to be effective at doing their assigned duties without bringing mentally retarded popular causes du jour into their offices, and preventing those organizations from operating effectively.

timactual

Trump does indeed seem to have learned from his first term. So far I am cautiously optimistic. Trump seems to be the only Republican I have seen in the last 40 years or so who actually intends to do what he promises.

Green Thumb

“Cautiously optimistic”.

Agreed.

I’ll just leave this here.

I sure hope you’re wrong, but I can’t think of a single argument against your statement, unless Mayne Thune has concerns about his midterm election…

5JC

Bring in term limits says I. Once their options get limited then they play ball.

11B-Mailclerk

I suspect Trump has some counter moves.

Like Veep actually presiding over the Senate as was done 200 years ago.

Presiding. Also riding like rented mule.

Trump is likely already scheming to blunt the RINOs this time. Let’s see how this shakes out.

Fyrfighter

He should certainly know what to expect from them, and he’s already showing he learned from the last time. Let’s hope this is another area where he did so.

timactual

Conservatives in Washington have two major opposition parties.

Fyrfighter

Yep. Three groups in DC.. progressives, conservatives, and whores..

Fyrfighter

And the deep state fights back, Thune selected as senate majority leader

5JC

Obviously Rick Scott would have been better but there were worse choices out there.

Fyrfighter

Ooh no doubt there could have been worse.

But I was really hoping to say / hear ” damn that’s a good choice” instead of rhe usual ” it could be worse”

5JC

😂 He gave Huckabee the Israeli Ambassadorship. That was like handing the Palestinians a huge cup of STFU.

11B-Mailclerk

Might as well announce sending Ben Dover to the PA.

5JC

In totally unrelated news Hamas has announced today that they are “ready” for a cease fire. Seems like something Trump will put on his to-do list a few years down the road. Maybe Iran shouldn’t have gone to the trouble of trying to assassinate him and collude with the Dems to try to win the election.

The only downside I see to Hegseth being young and perhaps inexperienced at the flag level – is those jealous may conspire to constantly undermine him. If he is surrounded with supportive top military brass, it could go well. Time will tell.

Fyrfighter

I’ve heard that President Trump plans to.convene a ” warrior council” or some such to evaluate all flag rank officers..that could be a positive..

Odie

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t the SecDef outrank the stars worn on some shoulders? I imagine some will be supportive and others thinking things are still run the same old way.

11B-Mailclerk

If they do it right, they make examples of a few, really harsh. The rest probably go along to get along, which is their default setting.

5JC

Marco Rubio – SEC STATE – sure
Tulsi Gabbard – DNI – Why not?

Finally one I don’t like, Mark Gaetz – AG

Not enough experience as a lawyer, his wife is not only stripper hot, but also with a name like Ginger Lucky may have done a few laps around the pole.

In any case he is a sleazy suck up who thinks with his dick and has a substances problem. Last guy in the world you want for AG.

A Proud Infidel®™

While Gaetz may portray himself as a firebrand Conservative, those who have known him personally have said that he is THE center of his universe and truly thinks the world of himself while he “Toots his own whistle”.

5JC

I expect him to be the center of a large scandal down the road if he makes it through confirmation.

The advantage of having him is that he will be easy to control. Maybe they will bring in a stronger candidate down the road as Trump’s legal issues clear the plate. You really need a heavyweight law knowledgeable lawyer in the AG slot or the agencies will run all over him. That is probably what will happen.

rgr769

There will be plenty of push back from the RINO’s and the D-rats. The two witches from Maine and Alaska will vote against his confirmation. Ultimately Trump will have to withdraw him.

Fyrfighter

Wouldn’t put it past President Trump to float this one, have the dems blow their wad fighting him, them put up another that he really wants after they’re spent..

A Proud Infidel®™

A definite possibility. After all, DJT is quite skilled at getting what he wants.

Odie

Also, didn’t Gaetz just resign his seat to get this appointment? That would make him unemployed as well should his confirmation hearings not go as hoped.

Green Thumb

He strikes me as a turd.

timactual

Then he will fit right in with the “swamp”.

THE NEANDERTHAL

Recess appointment. Gaetz is your AG. Deal with it. No need for confirmation for over 12 months.

11B-Mailclerk

Presumes some RINO voidsphincter doesn’t keep the Senate in technical session with one geek on firewatch.

Again.

Forest Bondurant

Agreed.

IMHO, Gaetz talks a big game but is weak to take any action, especially after watching how he let Fauci and Brennan lie to Congress without any consequences.

Marine0331

Awesome pick – Tom Homan too! Actually, I think all of Trump’s selections are great thus far. Hope to see Tulsi Gabbard on board as well at some position.

TopGoz

Director of National Intelligence – announced this afternoon.

5JC

Hope the kiddies are paying attention. Has to be record numbers of prior service people appointed to positions.

True, it’s fashionable– not always substantive.

Green Thumb

Might be something in there about his three purple hearts, the “gunshot” or “no gunshot” wound and how he actually exited the military.

fm2176

He gave copies of the book to all Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s employees who are Vets. I thumbed through mine but haven’t sat down to properly read it.

I know him mostly from Gutfeld and the occasional other Fox show (I tend to watch the YouTube clips from the former as well as The Five). He seems well-spoken and balanced in his thoughts and opinions.

For those screaming about a “lack of experience”, Hegseth holds what’s probably the Army’s most challenging–yet underappreciated– officer rank: Major. Most officers sit at O-4 for years without any sort of command or even authority, sitting behind computers to generate the perfect PowerPoint presentation or Excel spreadsheet for “the Boss”, and hoping they get selected for not only O-5 but also a battalion command, with ILE being a break of sorts from the daily grind. If they’re lucky, they’ll become the S3 or helm another shop at the brigade level. I’d love to see an O-4 take the helm as SecDef and become “the Boss” himself, over all of the perfumed princes wearing stars and flaunting their 35+ years of collecting massive (to us lowly enlisted) paychecks and TDY. Hell, while we’re at it, put E-5s and E-6s as the Service Chiefs.

Regardless, Austin needs to go, and we need someone who’s willing and able to shake up the Pentagon and make it rethink its priorities.

Claw

“collecting massive paychecks” =

Current 0-10 base pay: $18,491.70 per month

2025 pay raise it goes up to $19,231.30, roughly 231K per year without counting any other allowances or special pays.

Devtun

Matt Gaetz (my congress-critter) is up for AG. This is gonna be veddy veddy interesting.
Matt Gaetz erupts at Chris Wray in fiery hearing: ‘Are you protecting the Bidens?’

Commissar

Elect a clown, expect a circus.

I know some of you have enough military experience or common sense to know this fuckwit is completely unqualified.

I don’t have much hope for most of you.

But some of you know this nomination is a joke.

SFC D

The clown lost the election, Commissar. Both the electoral college and popular vote said no to 4 more years of Obama. Normally, I hate to see a grown man cry. However, when that (allegedly) grown man is you, I thoroughly enjoy it. Please, feel free to scream at the sky, shave your head, neuter yourself, or denigrate those you feel superior to. You have the right to do all those things. No, the eebil orange man will not restrict any of your rights. You just go live your best life in your happy little California utopia, laboring under the illusion that you know best. Even your dreams are fraudulent.

rgr769

I know of only one fuckwit referenced on these pages. It is you. Got CIB—no. Got advanced degree from Harvard—no. Service as an officer in combat in a combat arm—no. Write any published books—no. Able to swim long distances with Navy SEALs—no. Done anything for other veterans—no, anyway so far as we know. And your verbose blathering here don’t count.

A Proud Infidel®™

Major Moonbat does one thing here very well, and it’s providing a window to seeing just how deeply of a degree some people allow themselves to be brainwashed to!

A Proud Infidel®™

The outgoing administration is the circus, you’re projecting yet again, Major Moonbat. Look at the Nuke Waste Secretary who was chosen just because he was a flaming foo-foo, ditto with Buttigieg, who has NO qualifications for being SoT, Biden’s press Secretary, who got her job because she’s not only a female minority, but lesbian as well, come to think of it, just who in the Biden Administration ISN’T a DEI token?
Keep the laughs a-comin’, what’s next? 😁🤣😀

Forest Bondurant

And of course we can’t exclude Ketanje Brown-Jackson, who can’t defend a legal argument as a sitting Associate Justice or define what a woman is…or Richard Levine, who prances around in a dress and calls himself Rachel.

And as the DEI hire of them all, Kamala Harris.

5JC

I’d like to see this list of “qualifications” to be the SECDEF.

I believe Pete Buttigieg was made SECTRANS on the qualifications of having a toy train when he was a child and being gay. Ah, who are we kidding? It was just being gay. Not a whisper from you back then.

Then there is Gina Raimondo who never worked a day outside of government and was suddenly qualified to be the SECCOM. Where were you then?

Besides which, if we look at qualifications and experience; Alejandro Mayorkas checked every box and worked every job needed to be in his current job and sucks big blue whale dicks at it. If there has been any success at border in the last four years it is a closely held national secret. Yet Bite me kept him up there for four years screwing the country over the entire time just sucking at his job that he was well qualified for. The Democrats want someone to throw under the bus for the election? That guy should have ruts in his back from being thrown under the bus.

Take your hypocrisy and your “qualifications” and choke on it.

11B-Mailclerk

Yes, you are a fuckwit and completely unqualified.Your point?

timactual

“Elect a clown, expect a circus.”

That seems to have been the norm for the last 30 years or so. I have come to expect it and have not been disappointed. I still remember almost fondly the first year of the Clinton administration. Lots of laughs there.

“this fuckwit is completely unqualified”

Most of them are, and have been for at least the last 30 or 40 years that I can remember. And I assume that human nature was the same during the preceding 200 or so years of US history.

I am reminded of the old job hunter’s dilemma; employers always want to hire only experienced people and they all want some other employer to provide the experience.

timactual

And by the way, since you don’t have the experience (or training) to do the job, how are you qualified to rate anyone else’s qualifications?

The military phony thing didn’t play out. Everyone knows what happens next.

It had to happen. The left has invoked Godwin yet again and is now accusing Hegseth of being a racist Nazi for his faith based tattoos.
