ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A man who shot and killed a general contractor Friday afternoon at a St. Petersburg construction site won’t face criminal charges, according to police. It happened just after 1:30 p.m. at a vacant home being remodeled on Farragut Drive N.
Police say the argument started when 38-year-old general contractor Mostafa M. Ah Abdo got into a disagreement with a sub-contractor tile worker over payment.
“At the height of the argument, the tile worker started smashing completed tile work,” the police department wrote.
That’s when officers say Abdo went to his truck, grabbed a firearm and threatened the tile worker with it.
The tile worker’s father, 52-year-old Yamel Benitez, who was also laying tile at the site, then pulled out his own firearm and shot Abdo, “to defend his son,” police said.
Abdo died from his injuries.
Investigators say they determined Benitez’s actions were “justifiable self-defense,” and he was not arrested.

Mechanic kills machete-wielding customer over tire dispute in self-defense shooting, Hialeah Police say
By Rubén Rosario
HIALEAH, FLA. (WSVN) – An overnight dispute over a tire in Hialeah turned deadly in what police called an act of self-defense.Hialeah Police units responded to the scene of the shooting in the area of West Second Avenue and 29th Street, at around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Investigators 36-year-old Michel Lope Montes de Oca had contacted a mobile tire repair service to fix his vehicle.
Detectives said the mobile mechanic, identified as 29-year-old Brandon Hurst, responded to the location and began working on Montes de Oca’s vehicle.
At some point, a confrontation took place between both men. Police said Montes de Oca became upset after he realized the tire that Hurst had installed was a used one.
Detectives said Montes de Oca threatened Hurst, then charged at him with a machete in hand. In fear for his life, the mechanic took out his gun and opened fire, striking the irate customer multiple times.
Police took Hurst into custody but later deemed the incident a “justified shooting in self-defense.”

“A pair of Florida jokers…..”
At this oh-dark-too-damn-early pre-caffeinated morning I don’t know wether to be sad or glad that there aren’t more out there to make a full house.
Oh, there’s plenty more of them Flu-Ruh-Duh Mans out there, Tox. After all…it is Florida. My concern is if Claw Daddy spins the Whiz Wheel on them names, he might burn out a bearing. Speaking of burn…these doods got burned by teh stoopid.
Yup.
I’m unsure of the ethnicity of Mostafa M. Ah Abdo, but am inclined to believe it is one of those cultures that habitually cheats the workers.
I know of a guy (Viet Nam vet) who had problems with one of Middle Eastern culture who did not pay a several-thousand-dollar bill in a timely manner – until confronted in his own home with a pistol in his face. He wrote a check – and it was good.
Back in the 80s When I first got started building homes I would frame homes for other builders. I didn’t care for who at the time as I was trying to get my business up and going. I figured out pretty quickly who the dead beats were. I sat on many porches waiting for payment. One guy tried to crawl on the ground along side his daughter’s car as she backed out. I noticed him crawling on the ground and confronted him. I got my check for $10k and went straight to the bank to cash it. He asked me to wait till the next day when he gave me the check. He called me the next day screaming at me because I didn’t wait like he asked. I just hung up on him and didn’t do any more work for him. I had been waiting for 2 months for payment, and he already had sold the house so he had the money. I can definitely see how arguments occur on construction sites.
Whiz Wheel®™ spins for the day:
Mostafa M. Ah Abdo (BLDAM/DRT) 33 x 5 = 165
Michael Lope Montes de Oca (BLDAM/DRT) 34 x 5 = 170
Now THERE are some worthy scores!
