Jeffrey Lawrence Smith; your daily phony SEAL

| October 4, 2017

Our partners at Military Phonies send us their work on yet another person who told his family that he was a Navy SEAL. They found that wasn’t true after Jeffrey Lawrence Smith had a tragic accident that has caused him to be hospitalized since late August. The family set up a GoFundMe tin cup to help them with the hospital bills and, without knowing better, they added the stories they’d heard all of their lives about their father’s military career;

The truth is that there was no BUD/S training, no parachute accident;

Jeff’s summary sheet shows that he served HONORABLY in the Navy and was discharged as an E-4. There does not appear to be any reason Jeffrey Lawrence Smith and his family should not be proud of what he actually did do in the Navy. He served during a time when most others wouldn’t, a total of 4 years and 1 day of active duty. There is no record of Jeff attending BUD/S, being stationed at a SEAL Team, or ever attending jump school. We have no idea how he could have been involved in a parachute accident.

He did exactly four years of service as a machinist mate, nothing to be ashamed of, until the SEAL stories began. His family was surprised by the truth, which they discovered themselves when they went looking for his DD214 while he was hospitalized. I can’t imagine discovering that their injured father had lied to them his whole life.

Yeah, there are victims of stolen valor.

Another case of “Not Good Enough” syndrome, I guess. Dude spends 4 years doing some non-sexy Navy job and probably always felt like he should have done more.

Weekend Warrior in Texas

He could have been a BT, now that is sexy. I still do not tell people I got converted to MM.

FuzeVT

Sad that people have to make things up to make themselves feel important. I’ll never know why 4 years of honorable service isn’t enough.

Apriposito: Is it a requirement to have the biker ‘stache when you are an overweight SEAL imposter? Is there some sort of SEAL Faker Club bylaws that require it?

CWORet

Yes.

Graybeard

Now he has left his family, forever, a marred memory of their father.

Lying to your family about anything is the mark of a low-down scumbag – and that may be a slander against low-down scumbags.

HMCS(FMF) ret

Dude lied to his family and friends… and they found out the hard way. Now he has to live with the injuries from his accidents AND his Stolen Valor lies.

I feel sorry that the family found out in this manner…

Graybeard

+1

Ex-PH2

No sympathy for this jackass at all. What a moron.

Green Thumb

Yep.

Wilted Willy

Now he has to live with the scars of his accident and the scars of his lies to his family! I really feel sorry for his family to have found out in such a manner. My prayers are with his family now. However, he is still a lying scumbag!

He really looks like Paul/American chopper

A Proud Infidel®™

Since he tarred his own family with his lies, i hereby motion for the Official TAH Wall of Insults®™ to be raised against Jeffery Lawrence Smith.

MrBill

Second!

ChipNASA

OK Bitches, now you’re going for Three for Three…… I’m already backed up with Kyle then Shane and now this cockbite.

Any “Aye” Votes?

OC

AYE !!!!

MrBill

Upon reconsideration – in light of how badly he’s messed up and in consideration of his family who are having to deal with his medical situation and the revelation of his lies – I retract my second. I reckon he’s already received all the punishment he deserves, and more.

ChipNASA

I’ll belay posting the WOI unless there is someone else who feels strongly and wants to vote to go forward.

Ex-PH2

Can’t go along with the WOI this time, Chip. He’s getting punishment enough for being a liar. Chickens are roosting already.
I don’t think his family needs to be embarrassed any further by something he did.

Graybeard

I would move that due to the probability of the WOI inflicting undue collateral damage on an already injured family that we refrain from posting the WOI, while acknowledging that Jeffrey Lawrence Smith is worthy of all shame and dishonor.

Mick

I agree, Graybeard.

Now that his lies about being a SEAL have been exposed, this guy has betrayed, embarrassed, and humiliated his family during a time when they already have far too much to deal with as it is.

Under these circumstances, I recommend that we simply turn away from this guy, wish his family well, and let this go.

I doubt that we’ll ever hear anything more about Jeffrey Lawrence Smith being a phony SEAL in the future.

HMC Ret

100% agree. Some of the worst wounds/injuries I’ve ever seen were burns. In one instance, more than a dozen at once. He will pay back in spades from the effects of the burns for a lifetime. I’ll lay off. There will be other lowlifes deserving of ridicule. I’ll pass and wish him the best possible outcome from the horrible burns.

ChipNASA

All, Agreed,
Being a burn patient is horrible and even though (maybe) karma brought this, I’ll have to agree that WOI, IMHO, would be piling on.
Thanks
We’ll save it for the next numbnutz that comes along.

A Proud Infidel®™

I hereby WITHDRAW my motion for the Official TAH Wall of Insults®™ in this case.

ChipNASA

Hey API,
With us Bombing Kyle and Shane today, that’ not bad, you know 2 outta 3 ain’t bad.

A Proud Infidel®™

Maybe I jumped the gun by not taking his current situation into account.

ChipNASA

I think a lot of us did after we took a minute…
No biggie….
I mean, I’m kinda proud of TAH, We’re not a full on pitchfork and torch carrying insane mob.
I mean we have *feelings*, ya know, empathy.

SELF REPORTED!!!! LOL

😀

CB Senior

I see some Master Chief MM type coming here very shortly to leave no meat on said bones of Mr. Phony.

Combat Historian

Great work there, Mr. Smith; you embarrassed and humiliated your entire family in front of the whole world with your lying bullshit…

SgtM

The guy has a tough way to go. I hear they calculate your chances of dieing from severe burns as the percentage of your body burned plus your age. That would give this guy 110% chance of dieing. Not going to kick him while he is down. Now if he gets healed up and goes full retard, thats another story.

David

Anyone who has ever had a 3rd degree burn cringes at the thought of a wide area burn like this… when I was getting treated for mine I saw a little girl who apparently had her entire upper body burned and lived. By that point she was mostly healed and acted like a normal little girl; I can only imagine the months of agony it took to get her there. Support the Shriners and their burn hospitals, they do great work.

Is he from Florida? Another Seal wanabee, and a Snipe MM no less. Very sad.

I like the tagline “your daily phony SEAL”, but it’s only going to get worse.

2 new SPECOPS shows debut this fall, and when they do there will undoubtedly be an avalanche of phonies, fakers, POSers, and wannabees that will hit the social media trail

You’ll here this I bet…
Faker: Dude, you watch the episode of _____ last night?
Friend: Yeah! Hell yeah! Those guys bad-assery is off the charts. Fucking tough mission.
Faker: Yeah…that’s a replay of my easiest Op. We call them Ops not missions… Lost a lot of good men.
Friend: I thought you were a Yeoman at Great Lakes?
Faker: Nah…that was just my cover. The President sealed my records cuz my enemies put a $500K bounty on my head.
Friend: What? You said you got discharged early for asthma.
Faker: Nope…after 8 purple hearts & 2 MOH’s they told my work was done….but I could called back if nobody else can put off the Op .
Friend: Yeah…whatever…make that a coffee to go

Would it not be totally cool if the folks making the “military” shows used non-US insignia? Such as mirror images of the real things, or different proportions and colors, or prior century symbols like a bugle for Infantry

And the posers would find the stuff online, buy it, and look -really- stupid even to the slow folks in newsrooms.

“Yeah. That is cool that you were a UberCommando. That badge on your hat is from an episode of Star Trek. Your rank pin is Swedish. That ‘valor’ medal is a Girl Scout badge for cooking. What a sorry (bleeeeeeeep).

Nah. Too much to expect…..

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

HT3, Was thinking the same thing when I heard these new TV Specops flicks were coming out.

Guard Bum

I dont know about anyone else but I have photos, certificates, orders, memos, contacts with former military friends, etc. from my service. You would think that families would begin to wonder about dear old dad if all he had was tales of daring do and a trident to hang on the wall. Guys like this rob themselves of ever potentially having contact with former shipmates lest they spill the beans.

I bet somewhere in his stuff can be found a hat and a vest.

Ret_25X

I do not get it. After 6 years in the Infantry I had to move over to the Signal Corps. At first I did not understand the impact and importance of that job.

It took a great sr NCO I had looked up to from the time I was a mud rolling PFC to set me straight on it. From that point, I worked pretty hard to ensure my little Signaleers understood that what they do is critical and they have every right to have pride in their roles.

This “what I did wasn’t cool” BS is a crock. How, exactly, does the Navy operate without machinists? How does it operate without food, fuel, and medical? It doesn’t.

Perhaps the SEAL sobriquet seems so cool because these folks just do not understand that the aforementioned folks can not balance a ball on their nose without support.

IDK…maybe they are just dumb…but I doubt it.

Club Manager

Roger that Ret_25X. When I left the Air Police to become an admin clerk it was less glamorous. The four E-9’s in A&E made this busted to E-4 airman feel like a valuable asset. I left admin as an E-6 to become a club manager a few years later and have never been ashamed of my admin time because anyone with any sense knows clerks and personnel weenies run the military.

radar

Everyone has their role to play. As you might gather from my screen name, I fixed radars. Not glamorous, not exciting, but absolutely essential to the operation of air bases. Without us, grunts don’t have air support. Supplies don’t get where they need to go. Troops don’t get rotated. I don’t need to lie about my service to be proud of the role I played in Iraq and Afghanistan (I was never there, but the base we operated in Uzbekistan was a major supply base and the Spectres flew combat missions to Afghanistan from there). I didn’t patrol or kick in doors, but what I did was critical for the guys who did.

RM3(SS)

Looking at his records, it appears he did considerable time in Navy medical facilities. I would hazard a guess he got some kind of medical discharge with the resultant disability check. That would add to his story in his families eyes. Too bad he felt so inadequate he had to lie.

Sparks

Why? Would one do that to their family? I wouldn’t wish his condition on anyone, well maybe some, but not him for his family’s sake. That being said…

28 DUI’s. This cat is winning.

CWORet

Oh, and of course there’s PTSD from prior military service involved…

Cris

But, was there any prior service? Enquiring minds want to know…

No, that’s not Witless ‘n’ Wandering.
