Tracy Dart; stolen cancer
See, this is why I’m such a cynic these days. Not just when people tell me stories about their military careers, but anything, really. It seems that the whole world is nothing but a bunch of liars. There’s this Tracy dart person in Seattle who was something of a local celebrity. She claimed to be a three-time cancer survivor. She was the poster child of “Team Tracy” which raised close to 1/2 million dollars for cancer research. Now, it seems that she never had cancer, not even once.
On Friday, another member of Team Tracy called Welch and asked to meet face-to-face.
“The first words were ‘she doesn’t have cancer’, ” Welch said. ” ‘She never had cancer’ were the second words, and it just blew my mind.”
The Susan G. Komen Foundation is also asking questions about Dart. Team Tracy has raised more than $400,000 for them over the past decade. This week, however, Dart’s family contacted them with concerns.
“I wouldn’t say we’re angry,” Welch said. “I would say she needs help, and I hope she gets it.”
Yeah, don’t be angry that she’s been leading you all on for her personal satisfaction for a decade or more. She’s in the jurisdiction of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, so even if they do prosecute her, the courts will rule that it’s her right to say what she wants. here’s a quote from poor Tracy from 2010;
“I’ve tried so hard to find a good reason why I had to go through this, why has this happened to me, and why I am now having to go through this a second time,” she said. “All I can think of is that I am meant to get out and spread the word that breast cancer doesn’t just effect older women. We all have to be diligent about self-breast exams and going in for mammograms. If it runs in families we have to get on top of it sooner.”

“I was diagnosed May, 2008, when I was 33,” said Dart. “I’ve gone through this twice. I had a lumpectomy and started with radiation and then did the oral form of chemotherapy. It comes in a pill. My blood work and tests all came back clear after that, for about eight months. Then last April I did one of my monthly checkups and the doctor found something. I got another lumpectomy and started radiation. I just started IV chemotherapy, which has stronger side effects than the pills. This time of course my hair has fallen out and I am more fatigued, kind of like I have a flu, with cold and hot flashes following the treatment. It’s no fun. Again, I figure this is what I have to do and I’ll do it.”
Apparently, he family went to the hospital and could find no records of her having cancer. It sounds like a good, solid stolen valor bust.

Well when I see who succeeds in this nation and who is considered someone important it’s a population group that contains an awful lot of liars.
Hillary’s big endorsement is a well known liar, Tom Harkin. A great many pundits are talking about how this well known liar’s endorsement is a big deal for Ms. Clinton.
Meanwhile lots of regular honest people just keep doing what they are supposed to, raising their families and paying their taxes and doing the actual work of the nation. Most don’t seek publicity for their own problems nor do they seek charity for those issues.
Some folks have cancer and they never tell anyone, or if they do it’s a simple warning to make sure to get your appropriate tests based on your age and stop being embarrassed as being embarrassed is better than being dead any day of the week.
As a public service announcement and a simple reality check get that colonoscopy by age 50 it might just save your life as it certainly saved mine….
It’s not illegal to lie and say you have cancer in order to get sympathy or attention, and I don’t see how such a law could pass any kind of Constitutional scrutiny.
However, lying in order to obtain something of value, like money, free goods, a Disney vacation for your family, etc, is fraud, plain and simple, and is both a crime and a tort (a civil wrong that is actionable in court.)
The sad reality is that as long as there is something of value to be gained by lying, people will lie. And because there are certain lies that people are afraid to question – mostly because the liar is some sort of “victim” – then that tends to make lying more likely.

The comment sounded like something that he would say…maybe it was sarcasm on your part, but I took it as it was stated. Look at it, and hopefully you will understand my viewpoint. I assume I just jumped to an inaccurate conclusion.

As sad painful as my four non curable medical conditions and the five chronics are, I WOULD NEVER BEG,ASK or accept charity because someone out there is in worse shape then me.
On a list for transplants for kidneys and liver, my number came up. As happy as I was, I asked the lady who was behind me. A 22 year old male. Give it to him.
That was three years ago and not one of my conditions have gotten worse. KARMA

Which is worse, this woman or the guy with the “HELP me pleaz, I am a home less vet” sign? (Assume that the guy is either not a Veteran or is not homeless.) Or is it a tie?
Both are IMO pretty contemptible. But I’d say I have less contempt for the panhandler.
We expect tall tales from panhandlers; we know some of them are liars. But we tend to give cancer survivors the benefit of the doubt due to what they’ve “been through”.
Claiming to be a 3x cancer survivor when you’ve never had the disease is IMO pretty damn low. And doing it publicly – as the spokesperson for some “good cause” – is IMO evidence of both extreme dishonesty and a truly pathetic need for attention.
Hmmm. The expectation of being lied to by the panhandler, but not by the phony cancer survivor, is a interesting take. The flip side of that, I suppose, is that the panhandler takes funds fraudulently for his own use but this gal (at least at this point) solicited them for cancer research. Of course, a full investigation may conclude otherwise.
She had many personal fundraisers to cover her “medical bills”, drove around in a nice new pink car donated by the local VW dealer, took paid speaking engagements at multiple events locally and nationally, even had personal support from local celebrities like Lynch (Seahawks) who helped sell her clothing line… Fraud, plain and simple. She deserves to rot in a cell for a long time.
Interesting discussion. Are there degrees of Stolen Valor? For instance, I saw a guy at Walmart the other day riding around in one of their cripple carts and wearing a 101st ballcap. He was a big guy, bigger than me and I’m not a small man, and looked to be about ten years younger than me, in his sixties, likely.
So I said, like I usually do when I run into fellow troopers, “So what units were you in in the 101st?” His eyes immediately began darting around and he finally stammered, “Uh, uh, units?” So then I said a bit more forcefully, “Yeah, units!” and he kept looking away and around until he finally said, “Uh, the Cav.” He looked like a deer in the headlights and knowing he was a phony, I just said, “See ya!” and walked away.

Just one opinion, but mine is that you did exactly the right thing. Not sure that acting out yourself would have accomplished anything more than what you did, and might have made you regret it later. You let him know that folks notice, and that it’s not always a good thing that they do.

But Tracy Dart DID receive MANY donations over the years for her personal use. She lied about needing money for rent, paying bills, medical bills, car repairs, gas money, money to go out…Her closest friends and Team Tracy supporters really stuck by her. Yes, Team Tracy managed to raise over $400k for Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Research, but Tracy Dart lied to all her friends and family and manipulated the trust she had from everyone around her.
Count your blessings…when she decided to play the victim for sympathy and attention in a trendy cause, at least she didn’t make up a rape or child molesting story and put some guy through that wringer.

Indeed. She is setting herself up for some REAL cancer to show up in her body that she won’t be able to fight. There is a definite, demonstrated correlation between what you continually say about your body and what actually happens in your body.
I witnessed this scenario play out about 20 years ago in Smalltown, America. Gal announced she had been dx with cancer and the little tight-knit community responded with multiple fundraisers..You know, potlucks, cheerleader carwashes, drop boxes on the counter of every business, etc. It came as no surprise to me that the little logging town ponied up with major coinage. Thousands were raised.
a Lady friend was driving her to the hospital, where she would drop the “patient”off for her chemo/radiation treatments and then retrieve her couple hours later.
To make a too long story shorter, this woman would go in the front door and walk out the back of the hospital, and go have cocktails and go shopping-all on the caring neighbor`s dime! Well, she was publically shamed and left town.
About 10 years later she..yep, got cancer and it killed her.
Moral: Be careful what you wish for

Tracy Dart has cirrhosis of the liver which will likely lead to cancer of the liver. This is how the discovery was made that THERE IS NO BREAST CANCER AND NEVER WAS.
And it would be the most celebrated cancer diagnosis since Hugo Chavez.

I’m hoping she has an exceptionally long and healthy life, lots of time for her to be recognized for her extreme douchebaggery. Too bad we can’t bring back the pillory in the town square.
While it would be poetic justice and I might not shed a tear if I heard she was diagnosed with cancer, I won’t wish that on her.
I’ve seen people I care about go the hard way with terminal cancer. As bad as this lady p!sses me off, I can’t say I’d wish that on her.

Not sure I agree with her having MS. MS folks not only gain attention but generally seek meds, procedures, unnecessary surgery etc. They tend to seek treatments and procedures that are often more severe than indicated for any condition. They will also induce symptoms through various means such as taking drugs,or injuring themselves. An MS patient would for example ask for chemo, radiation, surgical procedures, amputation of a healthy limb etc. I didn’t go digging for her history, but has there been any indication she has actually had any unnecessary treatment of any kind?
Point of trivia:
The DSM-V doesn’t use the Munchausen or Munch by proxy anymore. The disorders are now termed Factitious Disorder imposed on self (300.19)and Factitious Disorder imposed on another (Formerly Munch by proxy)
The diagnostic criteria still includes:
A.Falsification of S/S of a disorder, induction, injury etc.(that is listed as essential to the Dx)
B. The individual PRESENTS..in other words, seeks treatment.
C. The deception is evident in the absence of obvious external reward.
D. The disorder is not better explained by another disorder such as a delusional or psychotic disorder.
So I dunno, but I don’t think she really fits Munch Syndrome unless she induced symptoms and sought and/or underwent unnecessary procedures.
Bust her for what? I see the story says how much she helped raise for charity but not that she kept a bunch for herself. She seems quilty of being a turd and world class sleazy liar but not a thief.
I live in the community of West Seattle, and there were multiple fundraisers over the years to help her with her living expenses in addition to the fundraising for Susan G. Komen, etc. Not to mention what she put her family and friends through. :/
Let’s also not forget that the Susan G. Komen outfit has been outed for its top echelon having their fingers deep in the pudding as well.
As a cancer survivor, I have never held my hand out and asked for anything other than the treatment I needed. Thankfully, the VA hospital in my area is paired with a local hospital of world renown, and almost every Dr you see in the Cincy VA has a coat on from that hospital.
I never stuck my ugly mug in front of a news camera and played the “I’ma Vet with cancer! *cough cough* Give me free shit!” card. Right now I want to just choke a bitch. Thank god this woman doesn’t (seem) to have kids or maybe they would have gotten a bad case of Munchhausen’s by Proxy.

Those who live in the public eye should stay away from the public lie. It tends to catch up with them.
My wife just survived a liver transplant (stage 4 liver cancer). I am 68years old and cannot quit working because even with my medical ( Obama Care did not have coverage) we still paid our own way.
This person makes me puke.
