Terry Wayne Glass; phony combat vet

Terry Glass

The folks at Military Phonies send us their work on this fellow, Terry Glass who was featured on a San Francisco news programKPIX. He claims that he suffers from PTSD, that he needs his service dogs, that the VA isn’t giving him the help he needs. Do these look like service dogs to you?

Terry Glass service dogs

Anyway, he claims that he suffers from PTSD from his multiple tours of Iraq and Afghanistan;

Terry Glass Go Fund Me

Here are his DD214s. He served 15 years in the active service as a surgical technician, in the operating room. Even though one of his DD214s show a Combat Action Ribbon, I don’t see where he would have an opportunity to earn one from the operating room in his assignments. He also has the Southwest Asia Service Medal, but again, I see no service in Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

It looks like he was with the 1st FSSG at Camp Pendleton for Desert Storm. The 1st FSSG is the garrison support unit there. I see where he was on a cruise with the USS TARAWA, an amphibious assault vessel, in 1996 which floated around the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch (enforcing the no-fly zone over Iraq), but the cut-off date for the Southwest Asia Service Medal was November 30, 1995, the year before the TARAWA was there.

Regardless of all of that, he was out of the Navy before the war in Afghanistan and the subsequent war in Iraq.

It appears that Glass did indeed retire from the Navy. You might remember that there was an early retirement in the 90s where folks with more that 15 years could retire from the military, in certain specialties. But I think that he regrets that decision now. The folks at Military Phonies did a DoD Manpower Data Center search and nothing turned up for Glass post 9-11. But that doesn’t stop him from claiming stuff to the congresswoman and the local news to get him some free money from the VA.

So his imaginary tours of Iraq and Afghanistan qualify him for his pretend service dogs.

It also looks like the local news station and the congresswoman are responsible for getting Glass appointments at the VA to treat his imaginary PTSD, too. So good job.

There’s much more at the Military Phonies link, so you should click over.

“Caught the PTSD”, huh?

Heard it was contagious…..can get it from close proximity to CNN

Green Thumb

Or from Rachael Maddow.

Watching her is like getting bitten by a rabid dog. For that matter, watching almost anything on MSNBC is like getting bitten by a rabid dog (or skunk maybe).

Watching Rachael Maddow is like bounding on your penis with a large rock….it only feels good when you stop.

If this person told the truth about his service, folks would’ve helped him out anyway, BUT NO! this liar just flushed his honorable career down the toilet…

C2Show

Too busy parading around on facebook and soapboxing about his troubles. He wants handouts.

Bingo nice service record and he flushed it down the crapper WTF

Goofball look on his face and that extra chin isn’t doing this fella any favors.

He refuses to retreat from the buffet line.

I bet he’s never met a jelly doughnut he didn’t like!

Ex-PH2

Puffy little Poms are decidedly service dogs. They aren’t quite big enough to get beer from the fridge but they will clean up the crumbs dropped on the carpet and eliminate the need for a maid. That is the service they perform – that, and they’re just so CUTE!

I guess dorkwad is simply not getting quite enough attention, is he? Well, pity-pooh.

James

I know vets who had been out for over ten years by the time 9/11 happened who got calls from HRC because of shortages. These weren’t Reservist, these were guys who could fill a MOS gap and who were Senior NCO’s. Secondly, an OR tech attached to a Forward Surgical Team could have seen some hairy shit. Hell, I saw pictures that would make the average ground pounder gag

19D2OR4 - Smitty

You saw pictures that would make us gag? Who do you think wrapped those boys up just to GET them to the surgeons? We saw it in person, not in pictures

Eric

Actually, technically they were “reservists” because in the Army Reserve if you make 20 years for a “non-standard” retirement, if you decide to “retire” from the Reserves, you can become a Retired Reservist.

You don’t get paid to drill anymore and don’t belong to a unit, but you’re still in the Army Reserve for call-ups as necessary.

The benefit is that the pay scale still climbs for you so you get retirement pay based on when you hit 60 vs when you got out.

A Proud Infidel®™

He had a perfectly good career and shat all over it by lying and being more full of shit than three platoons of shady used car salesmen! He needn’t look to me for any help, his lies shut my give-a-shitter completely down!

Fact: If your dog weighs less than 25 pounds, you have a cat.

A Proud Infidel®™

I always thought of dogs that small as barking rats!

Susan

That is just not fair. It is not the size of the dog in the fight, it is the size of the fight in the dog. My business partner has a miniature dachshund who thinks he is a doberman. He is getting older now, but he used to think anything that involved a tennis ball was a gift from God. His bark also makes him a good watch dog.

Dogs, even little ones, view you as a friend. Cats view you as servants to fill their bowl, remove their litter, and occasionally someone to help with grooming.

David

If a dog ain’t big enough to put its head on your knee and look at you when ears want scratchin’, it ain’t a dog. Looks kinda like one and may be cute as hell, but whatever it is, it isn’t a dog. Real dogs do not have the word “miniature’ in their ancestry, they have words like ‘shepherd’ or ‘retriever’. Everyone has an opinion… that’s mine.

Eric

I agree totes magoats!

Perry Gaskill

My dog is wondering which one in the photo is the leg humper.

It should be legal to induce PTSD into these assholes! You can get PTSD from many things, not just being in Combat. Assholes like him make it so much more difficult for those who have very real PTS.
Too bad the Navy doesn’t Keel Haul anymore.

Legally, service dogs must be able to perform af least one PHYSICAL task to assist a full grown adult with their disability. Basic obedience tasks such as sit, down, come, fetch etc do not count according to the law. This is why small dogs rarely are viable service dogs. Additionally, PTSD dogs are considered Psychiatric Service Animals and are not officially recognized by the VA or the DoD. So no vet gets assistance for PTSD dogs from the VA. This is because for the VA to provide assistance the organization training the dog must be certified by Assistance Dogs International and to date only Puppies Behind Bars have recieves that certification. My bet is his dogs “Calm him down” or “Cheer him up” both of which are qualifications befitting an Emtional Support Animal, and neither of which are legally consodered viable tasks to qualify an animal as a service dog. Sadly, unless a business wants to take him to court they cannot do anything anout it. I, on the other hand, would love this guys email as well as that news stations so that I may clarify to them the fine points of service dogs as laid out by the ADA.

I do not think little hot can be a service dog but hay who knows lets see the paper work. As for the CAR it could be possible that a surgical team was attached to a task forec that went in Desert Storm they had some. The Navy exsapaciley Marine tasked units Medical and Seabee units are bad at paper work as fare as deployments not all Detachments are caught on paper work I not excusing that but he got it put down on DD214 one way to check is the marine corps data base that is up now. If you served with a marine unit and got a CAR or Humanitarian awarded it is listed on the site. I know because I checked because my CAR is on there when I was attached to a special task force Task force Ripper /Troy and 21 of use attached got one for getting in fire fight. We were the only ones to have one until Somalia and then there were only 10-15 I think. I still think it would been hard to get one for him and he prubaley and some PN put on his DD214

NECCSEABEECPO

Sorry spell check hit enter to quick. I mean probably had some PN put it on there. You can still check Data base and he should have a write up for the CAR. I have mine and an award in my record from GEN boomer. I remember him because he singed my Joint Service Achievement 2 YR. later for JTF Golf Bravo in Gitmo. small world

Daisy Cutter

His CAR would have been prior to him getting out 1998 vs. Iraq or Afghanistan.

Still a mystery how he got a CAR.

NECCSEABEECPO

It is marked as Desert Storm that is why I said he could have been with a Task Force that went across the berm but I don’t think so. I think he lied to the check out clerk when he was getting out and they bought it with NO paper work because he was a Corpsman and they have a good chance to receive them like some Seabees. We can check the Data base it works if he got one it will be there mine is from 91 and I am a Seabee attached to a special task force at the time.

1AirCav69

I worked for, and hated this asshole, a Marine Major Helo driver. When I asked him where and how he got his CAR his exact words were, “I’m not sure. Supposedly the ship I was on went through a mine field I think.” He was a Desert Storm Vet. Could be something like that.

SEABEECPO

You know what I think you got it. I use to get mad when I so some Navy guy’s in 90’s with CAR’S and they were not SEAL’s, EOD, Seabees or Corpsmen. They got them because there ship crossed a line and were in a supposed mine field. This was BS because we had about 3000 Seabees and only 21 got the CAR I know I was one the others just took Fog’s and Scuds’ Navy and I MEF who we were all assigned to sad know because it did not meet the qualification at the time and it is different if your on ship that’s just the way it was back then. On a ship it is perceived danger and land it is receive and return fire in kind it’s changed now due to IED’s.

In his case he was probably on a AMPHIB because they have operating rooms. That’s got to be the missing link because FSSG would have attached a surgical team on board to support the Marines. I think you hit on the head with that one

Airdale USN

This guy is a nut case, he claims he got the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia, but he was a student at the time in Cali, I don’t see no where he was attached to a Marine Unit.Southwest Asia Service Medal (SASM)he claims he has three, between August 2, 1990 and November 30, 1995 he was in Cali. So its hard to figure how he got this on his DD-214.

Dapandico

Appears he can’t pass a hot dog cart without stopping.

HMCS (FMF) ret.

I was across the compound at NSHS San Diego during Desert Shield/Desert Storm – The hospital was almost cleared out of active duty staff to backfill augmentation billets with 1st Mar Div and 1st FSSG. Glass was more than likely sent up the road to Camp Pendleton TAD to fill a billet, went to the sand box, then sent back to San Diego when everything was over with.

Don’t know if any of the FSSG units came under fire… so the CAR may be legit.

As for “the PTSD”, chalk another one up to FTS…

NECCSEABEECPO

Yes senior, that is what I think but I think he lied to the PN when he checked out. If they took contact and received a CAR it will be in the Data base the Marine Corps Data because mine from that time is listed.

NECCSEABEECPO

His CAR is good to go. I believe he was with FSSG and was with a team that was on an AMPHIB and they got CAR’s because they went threw a minefield. the ship thing came from 1AirCav69 That’s when I remember that AMHIBS have operating room’s one of are guy’s was sent out to one for Non combat stuff.

Jarhead

a PTSD rating!!!!! Don’t think so. What he REALLY needs is a spell checker! Scroll back up to the two pictures a top of this post. Second paragraph below second pix, “Fought for this country for 22 TOYS in Iraq”. His words, not mine! Somebody post his address so we can send him a teddy bear, small train set, little fire truck or tractor, rubber ball, a yo yo, and anything else Mattell makes. My guess is a bunch of you can come up with better toys he DESERVES than my list. Let ‘er rip!!!

Jarhead

while I’m at it, he and I both need a spell checker. It’s TWO toys, not 22!

Skippy

he is using the power of his mind to get free dog toys… oh my 🙂

E-6 type, 1 ea

Well we certainly don’t have a shortage of yo-yos we could send him.

Ba dum dum CHING!

I’ll be here all week.

Skippy

way to go CRAP ALL OVER A GREAT SERVICE RECORD

NECCSEABEECPO

After looking at it look’s like he is trying to get sympathy. He states he did two tours in Iraq he is counting the Gulf tour as one Desert Storm and the second may not have been with the military could have been a civilian Contractor not the gun type but a worker on a FOB like KBR he want’s to mislead every one by that statement just like Joe Teti did.

CLAW131

A 15 year E-5? Way to seek out further responsibilities and career opportunities.

I can see how most of his daily routine played out.

“Hey, Terry, what cha doing today?”

“Not much, man, just taking a break right now. Carrying that briefcase and clipboard around all day sure can tire you out.”

“Hey, if you see the Command Master Chief coming around, be sure to let me know. I gotta keep a low profile and not be seen or have my name come up.”

“Yep, just hanging out. Lah-De-Da. By the way, does this uniform make me look fat today?”

“What, they’re gonna force retire me? Shit, I know I shoulda joined the Air Force. They’ll let you go all the way to 20 with no questions asked.”

Shitbag.

Okay so a Sailor living in San Francisco with two purse dogs…..

Do you see broadway musicals with Marines, with Air Force, with Army or Coast Guard?

No, it’s always Sailors dancing around in their crackerjacks.

Joe Williams

Ghey tight pants, everybody knows who the Navy’s Mens Department is! Semper FI PS I Keed, Ikeed Joe

Green Thumb

Turd.

NECCSEABEECPO

His CAR from Desert storm is in USMC Data base. He could have got assigned at start of ground war to go in because they were not sure if they had enough corps man for the ground invasion. In OIF they TAD’d dental tech’s x-ray techs assigned to the RCT’S they were augment’s and like I said we are bad at battle field paper work i.e. noting were they get assigned on paper we are better at it now

Daisy Cutter

Yeah, the Military Phonies blog on Terry Glass updated it with the CAR search results.

What I can’t understand is why didn’t he just talk about ODS and not bring Iraq or Afghanistan into it? Could it be they are more recent and felt it would be more relevant to getting help for PTSD? Why would he lie and take on the risk that a lie brings?

I agree with what someone said above — people and the VA would have helped him anyway. All he had to do was be honest about his situation. However, the newscast was quoting stats about the recent conflicts.

Simply put – what was his motivation?

SEABEECPO

I’m with you HE SHOULD HAVE USED THE ODS thing because it’s on his record it would still be liget unless they found something from ODS that would not qualify. I think that’s it 1AirCav69 brought up a good point there were some ship’s that crossed into a mine field and every on board got a CAR because ship qualifications and ground are a little different. The AMPHIBS have operating rooms so the FSSG would have put surgical teams on them to support Marines. I think that is the missing link.
As for motivation I just think he is down on his Luck and trying to get over. He got out of Navy early and was only an E-5 so he was not a good sailor.

Daisy Cutter

I think you are on to something here and we are all getting closer to what may have happened – quite possibly a surgical team on an amphib ship. He may not qualify with the VA and is trying another route altogether. Throwing gobs of peanut butter against the wall and see what sticks.

I understand a CAR to be an individual award. Did they hand them out like candy in ODS?

NECCSEABEECPO

They are but rules for a ship are different. If it goes threw a mine field that is perceived danger and direct danger the word is direct danger. On the ground you must take contact and return in kind or like NSW if you are in direct action and any take perceived contact they are a little deferent but what they do is above and beyond any way. So on a ship every one would get one even the engine room guy, that is why I have had a problem with that up till 2011 you did not get them for IED’s but now you do I don’t have a problem with that it changed because of the ships every one was getting one. We had guy’s wounded in convoy’s that did not get it but now they can and it was back dated.

NECCSEABEECPO

PS. The Marines take the CAR with a grate deal of pride the NAVY does not look at it like the Marines do. In my field we look at it like the Marines it means something that’s why when I see a Navy guy I ask and when he starts with USNS Something I walk away because I get it like the Marines get it.

NECCSEABEECPO

Sorry I mean USS. I am not a ship guy.

I took the early out in ’96, best move I ever made. Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA). Never caught the PTSD, don’t need a service dog, and stay FAR away from the VA- I don’t require their services now, and hope never to.
Maybe this guy does need help, but he fucked away any sympathy with his embellishments.

Hondo

Might have been the best move this guy ever made, too.

One of you Navy types of that era help us out: what was HYT for a Navy E5 in the mid/late 1990s?

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

There was none then.

Not uncommon to see a 2nd class in a critical rate stay. If you were recommended for retention, retention it was.

But what do I know …

PS: I think HYT hit later.

Airdale USN

You right, there was none.

NECCSEABEECPO

It was 20yrs.belive it or not but it is now 12 and E4 is still 8, E6 20 E7 24,E8 26 and E9 30. After 20 your record is reviewed every year and they can ask you to leave if it has bad marks or you have problems with the law unless you get advanced to next pay grade then starts over 3yrs. when you are up for next Ranke after 3yrs. back to the board. That’s all

NECCSEABEECPO

One more the PT is getting every one and it probably would have got that guy 3 failed PRT’s in 4yr. period the test is every 6months so good chance you fall twice get ready to go because your out. I believe the 3 time thing was in effect back when he got out so that may have been a reason to leave at 15 take retirement or get kicked out for PRT

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

The NECC CPO is correct and now perhaps referring to Continuation Boards that started in …ah… 2009 maybe!

E-5 was 20 and you are out!

E-5 now is mucho earlier.

I got out in 2011 as MCPO with 32 after being passed up 2 times on continuation … Could have played much longer if not for L4/L5.

For anyone playing the TAH board game home version, that is 28 years more than DAB!

HMCS (FMF) ret.

20 years then… according to the latest from MILPERSMAN 1160-120, it’s 14 years.

http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/milpersman/1000/1100Recruitinig/Documents/1160-120.pdf

NECCSEABEECPO

My bad senior I don’t know were 12 came from I was looking at and said wait I think it’s 14 got confused because they did the boarded for E5 and E6 couple years ago and I think that was 12-15 years of service I think that is were my 12 came from sorry guy’s thank you Senior

HMCS (FMF) ret.

No prob… IIRC, before I retired, there was talk of dropping HYT for E-5 down to 12 years, but NAVPERSCOM didn’t act on it (another one of them “force shaping tools” that they love talking about).

The few 20 yr E-5’s that I worked with when I was in had one of the following issues:

1. “Average” performer – 3.0 overall on evals
2. Minor discipline problems
3. Never studied for the E-6 exam
4. Got over on the system (did enough to get by)

Last one I dealt with was a no-load, loser… multiple PRT issues, disruptive in the shop, just wanted t make it to 20. Command did nothing to boot her out before she hit 18, and she was a pain in my ass until I retired…

NECCSEABEECPO

Ya, I’m with you had some of those myself. The Seabees do a good job at discipline issues and we are hard on PT that’s the big one that get’s everyone. I read were they are thinking about upping the body fat Percentage so more people can pass that’s BS to many getting forced out force shaping is catching up to us.

Hondo

Thanks, guys. I wasn’t Navy, but have worked with Naval personnel enough to know HYT exists and is like the Army’s RCPs – e.g., changes from time to time. Had no idea regarding the Navy’s HYT policies of that time frame.

HMCS (FMF) ret

Here’s one thing to point about his NEC (OR/Surgical Tech) – as an E-5 he still would have been assisting on cases, and bouncing between rooms in the OR at a hospital, or as an LPO in a clinic. For the FMF, he’d been with a Surgical Company or at MEDLOG. If he had hung around and made E-6, he would have played gopher at a hospital, had to move into another position (CCC or down in a clinic as LPO), or LPO at a Surgical Company or MEDLOG.

Best guess is that he saw his career coming to a dead end as a tech, was not interested in going to Independent Duty HM school (where he could have been promoted to E-6 on graduation), and wasn’t wanting to “broaden his horizons” as a leader and thought that taking TERA and making money at a OR tech on the outside was a better choice. We now see how that panned out for him…

Knew a guy who was the same NEC that I was and worked with him for 2 years in the early 90’s… didn’t want to do the “hard things” to make CPO and retired as a E-6 in 2003. Saw him him eight years later when I was a SCPO and he shit his pants when he saw me – had to ask the XO to not assign him to the same department I was in; he was afraid that I’d be riding his ass about making bad decisions (his wife did that for me).

Just an Old Dog

It looks like the guy is a fucking con man working the system. Numerous go-fund-mes.
