I hate when I’m right

| October 25, 2008

Jus the other day, writing about William Arkin’s latest screed against the people who serve in the military , I wrote;

…the military is always expected to tighten it’s belt under Democrats. Like when we tightened our belt in the Carter years and my pay jumped 20 whole dollars a month when I was promoted to sergeant. Or when we jumped from the tailgate of duece-and-a-half trucks driving down the middle of Sicily Drop Zone because there was no money for paratroopers to jump from actual planes. If Jimmy Carter had won four more years, we’d have fought the Gulf War with Vietnam Era equipment since it took almost the entire 80s to refit with modern equipment.

So what greets my eyes today at Drudge? The headline Rep. Barney Frank calls for 25% cut in military spending

In a meeting with the editorial board of The Standard-Times, Rep. Frank, D-Mass., also called for a 25 percent cut in military spending, saying the Pentagon has to start choosing from its many weapons programs, and that upper-income taxpayers are going to see an increase in what they are asked to pay.

The military cuts also mean getting out of Iraq sooner, he said.

That’s how the Democrats balance their budgets (in a manner of speaking). They cut the living shit out of the  military to spend money on their social programs (read that: buying votes from the lazy and itinerate) until the state of the military deteriorates to a ghost of it’s former self. Then when a Republican gets at the helm again, the Democrats call them war mongers for restoring the military. The Preamble of the Constitution says;

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

See that “provide for the common defense”? That means it’s a function of government….where does it say provide  social justice? Or provide food stamps? Or build and maintain roads and bridges? That by the way, is the newest camoflage for their spending programs – roads and bridges. I’ve heard it about thirty times in the last few weeks. This morning from Bernie Sanders (who could give a tiny rat’s ass about roads and bridges) and now Barney Franks.

Oh, and what does Franks plan to do with the money he’s going to slash from the military? Provide another coupla hundred billion bucks in a “stimulous package”. A stimulous package for the Democrats is another vote-buying spree instead of just giving back to the people who earned it.

Remember their “tax rebate”? You and I were supposed to get $1600 back (for couples), but we only got $1200 – the other $400 of our money that we paid from the money we earned went to people who didn’t work. That’s their idea of “stimulous” – stimulating votes.

Run another male prostitution ring out of his home, probably.

I was a PO2 during the carter administration and it wasn’t any fun after I PCSed from Beeville, TX to Whidbey Island, WA. Oak Harbor ain’t exactly cheap, but it got a little better when I made First Class after Ronald Reagan took office. Boy did I get a raise, then. Going over 8, making first and the big raise he shoved down the throat of a carter congress.
While old jhimmi the dhimmmi was in office and I was in VA-145, we worked our tails off to keep the airplanes in shape when we could fly them. An A-6 Intruder does not like to sit. If it is flown regularly, problems are at a minimum. Leave it sit and it breaks. It was made to fly and drop bombs, period.
