Tony Tuso; Delta Farce operator

| March 5, 2013

So, I got this phone call a few weeks ago from one of our readers who told the story of Anthony Tuso who stood up at a professional luncheon and told the attendees his remarkable story of being a Delta Force sniper in Afghanistan in the early 80s where he made 18 confirmed kills and earned two Bronze Stars for valor and a two Purple Hearts. The caller had been in the military at the same time and thought Tuso’s story was a little bit fabricated, so he called us to set the story straight.

Well, here is the real story;

Tony Tuso FOIA

Tony Tuso Assignments

Tuso was an image interpreter in a military intelligence unit at Fort Hood, not that there’s anything wrong with that, but there are no special forces units at Fort Hood, TX, let alone a Delta detachment. Tuso has no schooling outside of his schooling for his job – no jump school, no special forces training, no sniper training. His only award according to his records is a marksmanship badge, no Purple Heart, no Bronze Stars. He left active duty on Nov. 8, 1979 and the Soviets invaded Afghanistan on Dec. 24th, 1979, as if that needed to be said.

Bam Bam

The government redacted all his stuff because of the blah blah blah…

Loach

What he meant to say is he is a big Larry the Cable Guy fan and he’s watched Delta Farce over and over.

2/17 Air Cav

“His only award according to his records is a marksmanship badge….” Don’t sell the fella short! First, there are 18 grateful Afghans. Second, I think it was the first-ever V device marksmanship badge with grenade bar cluster.

Tony

“Shit’s classified” excuse in three, two…

Green Thumb

Maggot.

PAO SSG

Why can these idiots not be happy with “I served when most wouldn’t. I did my job, I did it well. After I did my service, I left the Army.”

No disgrace in not being Secret Squirrel/SF/Delta/Seal/MoH/Purple Heart/Paratrooper.

Damn Idiots, go play in traffic.

JBS

Excuse#4 (behind redacted, classified and maggot) Never made it into his records!

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

“Delta Force sniper in Afghanistan in the early 80s”

So that would make him a “Soviet Delta Force sniper in Afghanistan in the early 80s” … because we could not even spell Afganastin then!

Reaperman

Finally, somebody who had a more boring enlistment than I had. Although he was gun qualed so it’s closer than I’d like to admit…

SP5 Oleman, Shotgun Sniper

He was obviously part of the army’s secret time travel program and invaded Afganistan before even the Russians.
Please people, show some respect.

Tequila

Delta Force did not come into existence until 1977 BTW so he would have been one of the first. Would have been hard to do on a 3 year enlistment especially since the first requirement is that you had to be an E-5 or above to even qualify.

FatCircles0311

He’s so badass he doesn’t have to qualify, he just goes in no lube. He was in and out of Mother Russia before she even knew.

Tman

Used to be posers were busted maybe once every few weeks or months.

Nowadays a poser gets busted at the seeming rate of 1-2 per DAY.

martinjmpr

Jonn, I think the timeline speaks for itself:

11/8/79: Tuso leaves active duty

12/24/79: Soviets invade Afghanistan.

Isn’t it obvious? Those tanks and BMPs were lined up a the USSR/AFG border, just waiting for the order to go. Then, some spy working at Fort Ben Harrison sent the secret coded message:

TUSO IS OUT. OK TO INVADE. GO, COMRADES, GO!

And the rest is history!

ChipNASA

Do we have any idea what the “professional luncheon” was? Do we think it may be a good idea that they are informed of this assbag’s shenanigans??

I’d like to hear, as Paul Harvey used to say…”The Rest of the Story”…..
/good day.

Three points of clarity:

1. The US was involved in Afghanistan beginning officially in 1984. The likely players were State Dept, CIA and Tier One Special Operators.
(Tom Hanks even did a movie about it)

2. Anthony Tuso was not among them.

3. Anthony Tuso is however a douchebag.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

He was a member of the Warsaw Pact component of Delta? Was in the Russian pre-invasion infiltration units?

Beretverde

Delta? Maybe Delta company in basic or AIT. It was so long ago… he could be confused. Sniper… maybe he thought firing at 300m targets for yearly qualification made him one. Confirmed kills…yep- pop up targets at the range? Two Bronze Stars for Valor and TWO Purple Hearts… well that’s a hard one to explain.

David

“auto-rifle”? Every record I have says M16 or Rifle. And he got out as a 96D10 as an E-5? That should have been a 96D20.
Were there still Spec5s in ’79? Most MOS consolidated to
E-4= SP4, E-5= SGT, E-6 = SSG around 78, I believe… as I recall only Combat Arms retained the E-4 = CPL. I’m old and have killed a frew brain cells, but this looks altered to me.

martinjmpr

@19: When I was at Fort Benning we qualified in both “rifle” and “Auto rifle” as an 11B. Auto Rifle was qualifying with your M16A1 on full auto using 3-5 shot bursts off of a tripod. The 11Bs did this training/qualification while the 11Cs were learning mortars and while the 11H’s were learning to shoot TOW missiles. I was one of about 6 11Bs in a platoon that was mostly 11Hs so for that week we were detached to another platoon. So yes, Auto rifle is a legitimate qualification (although I can’t understand why an Imagery Interpreter – 96D – would so qualify.)

As to your second question, when I came in in 1980 they still had Sp5 and Sp6. By 1983 when I entered the NG the Sp6’s had been converted to SSG but we still had Sp5s. I think the Sp5 rank was eliminated in 1985.

Old Soldier

Looks like a fairly “normal” 96D MI enlistment –
BCT @ FLW, AIT at Huachuca, “Casual” at Sam Houston – (Either Med hold or signed in there to avoid going to Germany – as Germany crossed out). Went to the “prototype” CEWI Battalion the 522d – either didn’t hack it or was excess, then sent over to the 131st Aviation Co.(OV-1 Mohawks doing imagery), which was later reflagged as A Co. 15 MI BN..

Old Soldier

@20

Specialist 7 was abolished in 1978 and Specialist 5 and Specialist 6 in 1985. Also in 1985 the rank of Specialist 4 simply became known as “Specialist,” which is how it is referred to today.

David

Thanks to all… I remember the phase-out but not the timeline. Think I’m still accurate that the 96D10 should have been a D20?

martinjmpr

@24 yes, should be 20 level for an E-5, but it’s important to remember when looking at records like this that they were often typed by a hungover PFC who then had his work “checked” by an overworked SFC, so minor errors like this weren’t uncommon. Even today my NGB 20 (NG equivalent of a DD-214) has multiple errors in it even after I brought it to the clerk’s attention. Eventually you just get tired of correcting errors and just sign the damn thing so you can leave.

Old Trooper

He made E-5 in 3 years in a drawn down Army, which is doing very well in my book. I knew guys that were proud that they made E-6 in 6 when I first joined.

First off let’s get the story correct. It wasn’t the 80’s and I never mentioned anything about 18 confirmed kills, that was a farce in itself. Also in as much as I know you want to destroy my character you should know that I am proud of my service and my accomplishments during my tour of service. For almost 30 years I kept my 3 tours down range to myself and never spoke about them not even to my family. That one day became an extremely emotional one and things just came out from that time in my life. All I will tell you is that I and 3 three others were plucked from our field and from that point on I never questioned my orders. For years I have had to live with knowing that the closed door sessions would never be reflected on my service record as is the case for many service men and women. I have never questioned the outcome. Back then things weren’t always black and white as they say. As far as I am concerned I only have to answer to myself, God, and the three others that made those journey’s with me. Think what you want but I have the scares to prove it and am secure with who I am. This response is for all those who served their Country Proud but never got the Brass Parade.

Virtual Insanity

Uh-huh. ‘Cuz squints are so often tapped to be Delta snipers with no training.

Yeah.

Powerpoint Ranger

Tony,

Just stop. By the look of your real DD-214, your service was perfectly honorable without the bullshit secret squirrel fairy tales. You’ve already fucked that up, and this would be a great time to put the shovel down and not keep digging.

Hack.Stone

And yet again, “I can’t talk about it because the records are sealed in the interest of national security, but I am allowed to discuss it in a public forum to get a bit of attention.”

Hondo

Tuco: purus stercus equus. Quit p!ssing on our legs and telling us it’s raining.

rb325th

What a fucking tool… lying sack of shit.

ByrdMan

And yet another dead thread revived by the very douche the thread is about.

Try this: Stop lying and fly under the radar, it works.

Pinhead…

NHSparky

For almost 30 years I kept my 3 tours down range to myself

As well you should have, because they didn’t fucking exist, scooter. And no matter how many times you try to claim otherwise, they still don’t.

Ex-PH2

Tony, go write novels. They’d be more believable.

Tony

got it

Green Thumb

Turd.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

Hey Tony the Testicle … Fu@k your bullshit story about you and the Three Mousekateers.

It never happened, you know, and we don’t buy it.

One other thing … KMRIA!

Valkyrie

Is this 3 or 4 in the past 30 days that has revived a “dead thread” to set the record straight?

Well I’m a firm believer in “stupid should hurt”, so bring the pain. I think they’re feeling left out since Paul and Taint(Dullass) have been getting all the attention.

TheCloser

Didn’t think he placed high enough in the Ballduster Tourney?

Devil Made Me Do It

I agree with #41. This is just a chance to get a redo in the tourney. He knew that he would have gone farther if it just wasn’t for those other POS.

He is hoping that the next tourney will show him for the true POS he is and the will be able to get to the finals.
