Rolling Stone: The Gun Industry’s Deadly Addiction
Rolling Stone, the journal of popular culture prints an article today entitled; The Gun Industry’s Deadly Addiction which blames the gun industry and racism for the surge in gun sales over the last few years. Their myopic reportage, of course, doesn’t look at the Left’s part in the record-breaking gun sales. instead they focus on ridiculous bullshit;
Much of the industry’s recent success is linked to politics – in particular, to the gun-buying public’s anxiety about the first black man in the White House.
Seriously, that line isn’t played out yet? I’d have guessed that we got over the whole race thing after the first term. The president denigrated us gun owners during the first campaign and we all knew it was only a matter of time before he came for our guns once he didn’t need our votes any more.
Perversely, the Newtown massacre has only added to the wave of panic buying – as consumers stockpile weapons that could be outlawed.
Perversely? Really? Gun owners knew that the media sensation would drive the emotional Leftists to demand that something, anything be done. So we bought up the things that would be banned as a result. It wasn’t the Newtown shootings that caused the buying, it was the Left’s emotional reaction to it that drove us the stores.
Of course, Rolling Stone says that it’s gun companies who driving this frenzy. Encouraging us to get our kids interested in the sport, but, again, it’s a skill that we think our kids are going to need, because of the emotional Left which demonizes everything that we believe to be true.
And, oh, yeah, Rolling Stone, in their usual patronizing manner, tells the ladies that they’re being seduced into buying guns by the gun companies…not because they’re in real danger because our culture is cracking up.
Firing ranges now offer zombie-themed hunts. “Shooters must battle their way through a Zombie Assault Course to save us all from these undead people eaters,” advertises one Florida range. The industry itself is also cashing in on the craze, selling zombie-branded accessories, including sights that use a biohazard hologram instead of cross hairs for aim. Ammunitions giant Hornady has even rebranded its Critical Defense line of bullets as Zombie Max. “This is an incredible marketing strategy,” one dealer told Shooting Industry. “If you set Hornady Critical Defense next to Zombie Max ammunition, a young customer is going to grab the Zombie ammo. The old-timers don’t care much for it, but the younger shooters love it.”
But there’s no mention of Rolling Stones’ fawning reviews of popular culture zombie movies that fuel the craze. The “old timers” don’t read Rolling Stone (except those balding hippies who tie those few strands of hair they have left on the sides of their heads in a scroungy, skimpy pony tail) or go to Zombie movies – that’s popular culture.
The gun industry’s dirtiest – and most open – secret is that it is profiting from the sale of guns that are illegally trafficked into Mexico to arm the drug cartels responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians. “Nobody has a clue how big that market is,” says Diaz. “It’s like drugs in reverse.”
Can you imagine writing that paragraph without mentioning the “Fast & Furious” operation during which the US Federal government, the Obama Administration, let thousands of guns “walk” to Mexico in spite of the gun industry’s pleas to halt the practice. Those guns that irresponsibly ended up in the hands of criminals have turned up in crime scenes across Mexico – but, no not a mention of “Fast and Furious”, instead Rolling Stone quotes Dianne Feinstein’s claims;
“Military-style weapons are arming Mexico’s brutal drug trafficking organizations at an alarming rate,” Dianne Feinstein wrote in a 2011 letter to her Senate colleagues. Nearly 90 percent of weapons seized in Mexico are trafficked from the U.S. “Many of these firearms came from gun shops and gun shows in Southwest border states,” the GAO reported, decrying the “increasingly lethal weapons,” specifically “high-caliber and high-powered” guns such as “AR-15-type semiautomatic rifles, which fire ammunition that can pierce armor often used by Mexican police.”
Yup, be careful not to mention that the Obama Administration was sending those guns to Mexico, it may screw up any point you might have had.
For the industry itself, the violent deaths of tens of thousands of Mexicans are of no greater concern than the mock executions of zombie dummies.
How much do those deaths count for the Obama Administration?
Divestment from the gun industry is gaining momentum:
Well, that’s brilliant investment strategy, isn’t it? Don’t invest in an industry that’s making money hand over fist. F’n dumbass hippies.
Category: I hate hippies, Liberals suck
Have assisted a friend of mine at Carry Concealed courses here. There is no discrimination when it comes to your safety. Classes are people who are not criminals, bought a sidearm and want to be able to protect themselves and their loved ones without regard to race, creed, sex or national origion.
Although it is quite spooky to get on the firing line with some people who have never fired anything. But they are there and motivated.
The credibility of the Rolling Stone should go the way of the lava lamp.
Just read the article. Wow just wow is all I can say!
I like how the “article” keeps perpetuating “facts” that have been debunked long ago – like the 90%, the “high-caliber, high powered rifles like the Ar-15” and armor piercing.
Dumb fuck liberal hippies is right.
“Can you imagine writing that paragraph without mentioning the “Fast & Furious” operation…”
Well, I can imagine being a disingenuous lefty asshat, but it makes my entire being hurt to do so.
Well, DAMN. I didn’t realize that a .223 round was so high-powered!
“Of course, Rolling Stone says that it’s gun companies who driving this frenzy.” It is! I can’t watch a TV show or listen to a radio program without seeing or hearing those gun commercials! I drive and there it i again on the billboards! One after another. Madison Avenue must be awash in gun makers’ advertising dollars. They’r as numerous as cigarette commercials. Oh. Wait.
Ah! I see that RS’s yellow journalist writing has never gone away. It’s too inconvenient and too difficult to write in an unbiased manner when it does not fit your needs, so you stir the pot in every way to make the other guy look bad, no matter what the truth is.
Yellow journalism does not refer to cowardic, but to sensationalism by the media, starting back with the Spanish American War, which was the first media war.
http://www.pbs.org/crucible/frames/_journalism.html
While publishing giants like Hearst and Pulitzer competed for readers with inflated and frequently fabricated stories about what was going on in Cuba, they fanned the flames of the war that they knew would increase their readership. Rolling Stone and its cousins in the media have continued the family tradition, except that the ‘flames’ have been reversed to inflame readers in the other direction. Subsequently, they report only what they want to hear, and continue the yellow journalist tradition of fabricating information.
They’re on the same basement sewer drain level as the paparazzi and tabloids.
State Senator Evie Hudak, D-Stupidity, said that guns would do a rape victim no good, because “chances are that if you had had a gun, then he would have been able to get that from you and possibly use it against you”. Yeah, because it might have happened, the victim shouldn’t have the opportunity to try to defend herself. http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2013/03/05/arrogant-co-dem-scolds-rape-survivor-at-gun-ban-hearing-statistics-werent-on-your-side/
Another dem doing a good job of selling guns to future victims.
It’s *high* time we start boycotting these sh!tstain periodicals… and choose to not associate with those who choose to read it.
Rolling Drone strikes again. I’m so sick of the left wing crap that passes for reportage in so many non-political publications. Shut up and sing already.
Love the slant on the 90% of guns siezed in Mexico were of US origin. A few years back it was 60% What the news article failed to mention was that it was 60% of the guns turned over as being SUSPECTED of being of U S origin were traced by the DEA back to the US. Of the Total number seized it ended up being less then 10%. Most of the guns used by cartels come from crooked Mexican Cops or military.
According to the GAO report, some 30,000 firearms were seized from criminals by Mexican authorities in 2008. Of these 30,000 firearms, information pertaining to 7,200 of them (24 percent) was submitted to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for tracing. Of these 7,200 guns, only about 4,000 could be traced by the ATF, and of these 4,000, some 3,480 (87 percent) were shown to have come from the United States.
This means that the 87 percent figure relates to the number of weapons submitted by the Mexican government to the ATF that could be successfully traced and not from the total number of weapons seized by Mexican authorities or even from the total number of weapons submitted to the ATF for tracing. In fact, the 3,480 guns positively traced to the United States equals less than 12 percent of the total arms seized in Mexico in 2008 and less than 48 percent of all those submitted by the Mexican government to the ATF for tracing. This means that almost 90 percent of the guns seized in Mexico in 2008 were not traced back to the United States.
The remaining 22,800 firearms seized by Mexican authorities in 2008 were not traced for a variety of reasons. In addition to factors such as bureaucratic barriers and negligence, many of the weapons seized by Mexican authorities either do not bear serial numbers or have had their serial numbers altered or obliterated. It is also important to understand that the Mexican authorities simply don’t bother to submit some classes of weapons to the ATF for tracing. Such weapons include firearms they identify as coming from their own military or police forces, or guns that they can trace back themselves as being sold through the Mexican Defense Department’s Arms and Ammunition Marketing Division (UCAM). Likewise, they do not ask ATF to trace military ordnance from third countries like the South Korean fragmentation grenades commonly used in cartel attacks.

@8 – yeah, I’m in her district, unfortunately. Never even got a canned response from my calls and letters. We had a great candidate running against her – Lang Sias, a former Navy pilot currently in the CO ANG – he just couldn’t beat her.
As you can see from this, Colorado is solid blue now, there just aren’t enough conservatives (or sane people) to out vote the Dems. We also have a problem with the Republican Party putting forward lousy candidates at the state level.
I just hope people can remember all this for the next 4 years until we can vote again. Since 2/3 of the people living here are from somewhere else (CA, NY, etc), I have my doubts.
I was kind of surprised they had to go all the way back to 2011 to pull a quote about gun trafficking to Mexico, but I guess it hasn’t been in the news more recently. Or something.
1. Prognazis are pro-rape.
2. Democrats are pro-rape.
3. Rolling Stone must be desparate. They haven’t brought a general to heel in a while.
Rape is down more than 20% since FL instituted their “Stand your ground” law.
Anti-gun Chicago has one of the highest rape rates in the country.
Mexico is a “gun-free” Nation, so there must be no gun violence, right? I mean it is illegal to own a gun there. Possession is subject to 5 years in jail, a Mexican jail, so no criminal would risk it, right?
The island nation of Britain has also banned guns, so there must be no crime there too right? Oh, yeah, violent crime in Britain is 5x what it is in the US. They primarily do it without firearms though.
With far fewer ATV’s in the US than there are “assault rifles,” 20x as many people are killed by ATV’s than “assault rifles,” so perhaps the polticians will ban ATV’s next?
The Rolling Stones won’t let the truth, or facts, get in the way of a good political story, that advances their agenda, and as importantly gets people rankled enough to send them hits. I’ll bet they haven’t seen spikes like this to their hits since their last hit job on a General.
Forget it Jake, it’s Wennertown.
Common Sense, maybe, if you can, it would be wise to follow MagPul out of state. I’d read that the libtards have screwed up Colorado.
There goes another vacation destination. Not another dime of mine will go into any business in Colorado.
I once ended up getting a free three month subscription to RS, and after reading part of the first issue, the rest went straight to the trash, they’re about as middle-of-the-road as The Village Voice or Mother Earth News.
Eh, I kinda like the 90% of drug guns in Mexico talking point. It makes me laugh thinking about some Zeta leader whose cartel needs a resupply calling up his cousin in Nogales and asking him to pick up some AR-15s at Joe Bob’s Ammo and Bait instead of, you know, placing an order with an international arms dealer or having his guys break into a military or police armory to steal whatever they need. No, massive cross-border criminal organizations always buy their weapons in ones and twos from scattered private dealers.
I love reading “Rolling Stone”. Some of the stories have been twisted around so much they can be considered fiction, which is great, especially inbetween Duffle Blog stories.
In all seriousness, Rolling Stone can take their stupid story that paints me and every other law-abiding gun owner as a racist and shove it where the sun does not shine. Just more anti-gun whining from the bleeding hearts who don’t know what they are talking about, who desperately avoid implicating the political figures they worship.
The inherent right to self defence is just that, inherent, therefore transcending all races creeds and ethnicity. If they really want to play the race card, let’s not forget that some of the most vehement gun control laws originated in the south as a means of controlling the newly liberated slave population.
Stopped reading Rolling Stone in my early 20’s. About the same time I joined the military. And stopped being a drain on society. Glad to hear it is still suitable for wrapping fish. Just one more “news” outlet of liberal white noise. The lies and misrepresentations are par for the course.
The worst part is that the little girl in the photo is Morrigan Sanders, the daughter of one of the most dedicated gun rights supporters in the country – science fiction author Michael Z. Williamson. Morrigan is 15. She knows more about guns and gun safety than the entire staff of Rolling Stone combined! I still don’t get why Mike let them use her photo, but….. It’s pretty cool for her.
And yeah… Hudak. Cunt.

@24 – Nicki, I read your column and the first thing that popped into my mind was Margaret Atwood’s novel “The Handmaid’s Tale”, which was so controversial that no publisher would touch it and she had to publish it herself.
Like you, I see that what was a subtle maneuver is now being turned into a war against women that surpasses the crap we’ve had to put up with for millenia. It’s worse, because the so-called women’s lib (liberation) movement, which I saw first hand, has been corrupted and is now being reversed.
Backlash is growing.
The photo of Morrigan was shot several years ago by a freelancer at an open event, so no permission or rights were needed. That was a question I asked Mad Mike yesterday, wondering if they had gotten permission and/or paid royalties on the photo.
I suspect that if they knew Morrigan they would be curled up in a ball babbling. Expert with a variety of rifles, pistols, and other delights; expert with a variety of edged weapons (swords and knives); expert with a variety of non-edged weapons; more than passing fair with a variety of hand-to-hand techniques; and, a talented musician on top of it. Also, very quick with duct tape and zip ties too — always ask why she wants to borrow something before giving it to her. 🙂 In short, she is everything they say can’t exist, and so were foolish enough to put her on the cover. I say we run with it, and make sure the world knows that a little girl can easily do all the things they say women can’t…
By the way, consider knowing her as a big positive in my life; and, yeah, not to shabby knowing her brother and Mad Mike too. 🙂
I did not know that gunstocks come in pink. Are there other colors?
I can get a compound bow in pink camo. That’s the reason I ask.
Why would they buy an semi-auto AR-15 from North of their border for $1000 when they can buy a full-auto AK47 from South of their border for $100.
I know my prices are not extremely accurate.
Ex-PH2 – they come in all colors. Last time I was at Mike’s house, he had one in yellow and this gawdawful blue. He brought the pink one over to my house for Thanksgiving in 2005. LOL
And yes, it’s a huge war on women! As I said in an earlier piece, Salazar thinks we’re better off with whistles and call boxes, thinks we need to be disarmed and that we’re too hysterical to have firearms, but they consider the refusal to fund Sandra Fluke’s fucking condoms a war on women??????????
Dafuq?
@26 – I’ve known the kids since they were babies. The first time Mike and Gail came over to the house was in 2001, and Eric was still in baby jail (those travel thingies, ya know?) and Morrigan was about to turn 4. She’s a great kid! Mike seems pretty proud of the photo, and didn’t care that the article was shit. Hey, the more publicity for Morrigan, the better. 🙂
Nicki, maybe it’s time to do a poster of old ladies with weaspons of all sorts.
We could put an ad in Rolling Stone. Most magazine revenue comes from ads, not subscriptions.
@26 and 29
Mike is a hell of a guy, I have only talked to him via PM but he took care of my best friend, who had just lost his father, while he was deployed to the Stan. Sent him books and when I asked how he wanted me to send the money he told me that it was covered. I can only hope I raise my daughter half as well as he is raising his.
EX-PH2 – I’m betting Oleg Volk already has some in stock. LOL Now all we need is some money to buy ad space! 🙂
@31 – not surprised. I’ve known Mike for years. He’s a veteran and was deployed himself around the same time I was or shortly after.
Well damn Mike is tearing the anti-gun commentors a new on on the Rolling Stone website that the article is on. If I only had popcorn here at work….
I don’t know why he bothers. They’re idiots.
Ohh I agree they are more than idiots. I guess he just enjoys a lively debate, too bad the folks he is debating are beneath him.
I still need to get the package I owe him in the mail, Nicki See what kind of soap Gail likes, my wife is a soap maker and I told Mike I would send the females in his life some goodies.
@35 – Gail has pretty sensitive skin, but I can ask. 🙂
Nicki, I remember you talking about that visit a while back.
Robert, he is indeed! A character, a good man, a good father, a good friend. So good to watch both kids develop, really think his son will become an engineer. Both are amazing.
As for Mike having fun in the comments, he does enjoy that. It also allows them no safe haven to post idiocy without it being called out. RS was apparently deleting some of his comments yesterday, including that their photo was of his daughter. Really hope that between comments and articles like this, they will find out more about Morrigan, and either grow up a bit or fall to the floor and curl up into a ball. 🙂
