Two more killed in latest green-on-blue attack

| August 17, 2012

Hondo sends us a link to Fox News which details the latest two green-on-blue attacks in Afghanistan. The first, cost us two soldiers who had just handed the attacker, a new Afghan Local policeman, a brand spanking new weapon as a gift. They were rewarded by being gunned down by the new recruit who was, in turn, killed.

Later Friday, another member of the Afghan security forces fired on coalition troops in the southern province of Kandahar. No one was killed in that shooting, and the attacker was in custody, Graybeal said. He had no other details and did not know which branch of the Afghan security forces the attacker belonged to.

So far in 2012, there have been 29 attacks reported on foreign troops by Afghans they are training, compared to 11 attacks in 2011, according to an Associated Press count, and five attacks in each of the previous two years.

Seven such attacks have come in the past two weeks alone, with six American troops killed last Friday in two separate shootings in Helmand province in the south and another American killed a few days previously on a U.S. base in Paktia province in the east.

The article also says that the Taliban is bragging that it is much easier for them to slip in some of their infiltrators because of the rate that new recruits are joining the forces. So that kind of works against this administration’s rush to leave Afghanistan and their dependence on robot ninja zombies to fight the Taliban.

Old Trooper

Well, when the call came down to disarm our own troops to make Karzai happy, I had a very bad feeling. That our top brass would allow such a thing was perplexing to say the least. Now, we have have to put up with more deaths of our troops, as well as all ISAF troops, in the name of what? Peace? Screw that. I want our guys armed while pinching a loaf in the shitter or eating in the chow hall. If Karzai don’t like it, then disarm his security detail and see how long he lasts.

Exactly OT

Roger that Trooper….a guy I was in basic with is a 1SG over there as we speak and he’s none to thrilled…

Where is everybody getting the information that we are being ordered to be disarmed? I have yet to see this order? I am armed everywhere I go, regardless of the location.

Army Mom

The old saying is “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer”. Mom adds to son who will be there next month – “Keep a weapon even closer – at all times”.

Momma ain’t happy.

I have to agree with Rerun, I’ve been in J’bad area since Mar. From the Governor palace to several DC’s, all US military always has their weapon. The only place I have heard of Soldiers not being armed is on this blog.

Funny thing, here in Kabul the majority of the ANA/ANP are not allowed to carry firearms on their own bases, unless they are on guard duty or training. I know I will probably come across callous and cold-hearted, but the majority of these green on blue are due to complacency and lack of training on the part of the coalition troops involved. Not all mind you, some the enemy just got plain ‘ole lucky. From what I see over here though, there are way to many people in this country that should not be here. The mindset, training, and skill-sets are just not there.

There was an incident about a year ago. 1 ANAF major was able to kill 8 USAF personnel, with a 9mm pistol. All the USAF personnel were armed, but instead of fighting back, there first reaction upon seeing the afghan major was to hide under their desks. No one went for their weapon, one airman pulled out her phone and attempted to dial 911. The Afghan was able to walk down the table and shoot them one at a time. These were people that had no business being in a warzone, and I feel the U.S. military failed them by not providing adequate training before they deployed.

You can find similar traits with the majority of these killings, they all have a common central theme, lack of training for the coalition personnel involved. The pre-deployment program for the individual augmentees needs a complete overhaul and reevaluation.

Are you training the Affholes, Anon? If you are, and you are able to keep your weapon, then you can’t have it loaded. That is the same as being disarmed. By the time you can pull a mag out and slap it into your rifle, it’s too late.

Here’s my policy. If they aren’t armed, then our troops can have their mag in, but not locked and loaded. If they are armed, then out troops are locked and loaded. If they look at our troops funny, then they are disarmed with a new 7.62mm asshole in their forehead.

The moral of this story, boys and girls, is that American troops are trained to know when to shoot and when not to shoot their weapon, so saying that you are making things safer for the Affholes actually means you are making things more dangerous for the Americans.

If these insurgents are captured, don’t prosecute them in the Affhole courts where they will be given a pat on the shoulder and released due to lack of evidence… hang them by the ankles in a pig pen just outside the main gate with their hands tied behind their backs.

Is it just me, or is the information on the attackers getting more and more vague as these incidents increase?

Kevin

These clearly are just more cases of Workplace Violence. I’m awaiting Obama to promise a full OSHA investigation lead by Biden.

Screw the REO, my life and the lives of fellow Marines are more than my stripes.
