Kristof: Raise America’s Taxes
Don’t you just want to throttle these lying little f**ks;
There is no single reason for today’s budget mess, but it’s worth remembering that the last time our budget was in the black was in the Clinton administration. That’s a broad hint that one sensible way to overcome our difficulties would be to revert to tax rates more or less as they were under President Clinton. That single step would solve three-quarters of the deficit for the next five years or so.
Kudos to Mr. Obama for boldly stating that truth in his speech — even if he did focus only on taxes for the very wealthiest. I also thought he was right to say that we need spending cuts — including in our defense budget.
Yeah, Clinton balanced the year-over-year budget for two years by cutting the military so badly that when we needed them, during the Bush Administration spending increased dramatically. While the Clinton military actions consisted of firing off a few missiles left over from the Gulf War without replenishing the stocks. Clinton was dragged kicking and screaming towards welfare reform which saved him a pretty penny, too. As I mentioned earlier today, he benefited from Roth conversions in the first few years of that tax shelter that liberals now want to eliminate.
It’s funny how liberals can only think of raising taxes – even though the Bush tax cuts increased tax revenues. The only waste they can see is in defense spending – even though rebuilding the military is always more costly than maintenance, in money and lives.
ROS sends us this link from the Wall Street Journal;
Mr. Obama then packaged his poison in the rhetoric of bipartisanship—which “starts,” he said, “by being honest about what’s causing our deficit.” The speech he chose to deliver was dishonest even by modern political standards.

I wonder how much Kristof’s tax-attorney is going to make for ensuring Kristof’s cash is sheltered from the taxman.
I’ve never heard an American call for higher taxes on him or herself without having an out, or reimbursement a la Geithner.
Commencing…banging head on desk now… 😛
Recommend reading an earlier post here on TAH: “LA Times discovers Clinton’s “balanced budget” secret.” Clinton gets the credit for balancing the budget due to all the tax dollars rolling in from folks converting their IRA to Roth IRA.
He also got his people to mark up the strength of the economy north of 20% to help Gore’s election campaign; and used accounting tricks to declare we had a surplus that we didn’t, in fact of dollars in the bank, have.
Kristof isn’t a reporter so much as glitterati.
The double-talking Marxist strikes again. Hurry November 2012.
Without the mortgage interest deduction that Obumbles wants to do away with, my hopey-changey bill would be about $6000 per year higher than it is now, and it’s already in excess of $25K a year since I’m 1–single, 2–no kids.
I’m not rich, but when you consider my federal taxes, SS/FICA (including my employer’s contribution), I’m looking at nearly 40 percent of my income going to the federal government before I ever get to see a dime, not to mention what the state takes out in the form of property taxes, vehicle taxes, fees, etc. (At least I don’t have state income tax here.)
And the MSM thinks I should pay MORE? Fuck that.
Kristoff, like most of the NY Toilet, I mean, Times, opinion writers are the exact reasons women should never sleep on the wet spot. He and the rest of the times so-called opinion (we know about opinions, don’t we) writers are poster children of Planned Parenthood. If it will keep the Kristoffs, Dowds, Krugmans, et al out of our lives, I say keep giving PP money.
He and they probably couldn’t find states outside of NY with a freakin’ map.
#6 Joseph Brown,
Sure he could. There’s NYC, DC, flyover country, LA. He lives in a simpler world.
You’re right Dave. They probably look down and ask what the hell is all that green stuff.
“Stewardess, could you bring me another martini? And please ask the pilot where we are, cause all i see is this weird green stuff.”
“It’s funny how liberals can only think of raising taxes – even though the Bush tax cuts increased tax revenues. “
Jonn, you just have to stop posting things like this. “Progressives” won’t accept this, as they can’t handle the truth. It doesn’t fit with their ambition to demonize and confiscate.
