SPLC’s connections to the DHS report

| August 12, 2009

I’m sure you all remember TSO’s work on the Department of Homeland Security report in which DHS warned that veterans returning from the wars should be deemed possible terrorists. In his post, TSO wrote;

But Part Two of what pisses me off is the second bullet up there, to wit:

A prominent civil rights organization reported in 2006 that “large numbers of potentially violent neo-Nazis, skinheads, and other white supremacists are now learning the art of warfare in the [U.S.] armed forces.”

And what “prominent civil rights organization” are they citing to? The Southern Poverty Legal Center, SPLC.

Well, our friends at Americans For Limited Government and NetRight Nation filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the sources of that DHS report and guess what they found in the initial response. It was rife with Southern Poverty Law Center links;

So I’m tooting TSO’s horn for him…well, maybe not – it depends on how you interpret that line.

Just what exactly has the SPLC done to alleviate poverty in the South… (crickets)

Single source intel should always be questioned. IIRC, most of the SPLC reports were based on a single grad students thesis, which was based on an interview with one “white supremist veteran” and visiting internet chat forums. Anything posted on the internet should be taken with a grain of salt. Now if you will excuse me, I need to polish my Congressional Medals of Honor before I hook up with Spooky 8 this afternoon for some skydiving out of my OV-10 Bronco.

B22: I wanna come with!!!

As for this tidbit of info: I’M SHOCKED!!!! Ok, not really. When you have a bunch of bureaucrats that are lazy, this is the type of report you get based on research you did. That the people up the chain from the initial researcher didn’t think it was strange to have somuch of your conclusions come from one particular group makes them just as lazy, not to mention, complete hacks of a designated political party/ideaology.

John O’Sullivan thesis about issue specific organizations eventually becoming left-wing cesspools of demagogery is proven right once again.

Chicken and the Egg, from Today’s News…

“WASHINGTON (AP) – Militia groups with gripes against the government are regrouping across the country and could grow rapidly, according to an organization that tracks such trends.
The stress of a poor economy and a liberal administration led by a black president are among the causes for the recent rise, the report from the Southern Poverty Law Center says.”

Ever fair and balanced the AP quotes the DHS report to say that SPLC was correct.

Don’t look now TSO, but the director of the SPLC is on FoxNews saying that the Tea Party movement is the same as militias, and they (we) are all terrorists.

JuniorAG,
…Nothing…and now they have named Glenn Beck as a motivator for militia groups like the tea party peeps. I say, “Pony UP!!” I’m ready and I will be in DC come 9/11.
