A Pair From Poe

Double Trouble

I am always, ah, interested in what the board curmudgeon sends me. That sobriquet is not given lightly, Delta Whiskies and Whiskettes. It is hard earned and well deserved, no small feat in this crowd. Poe is always pushing my buttons, which can be annoying but has its benefits, too. It keeps me on my game and, as we say in the Test world, expands my envelope. I also am in awe of his prose, and take note.

Without further ado, Poetrooper sends:

Media heads explode after Trump reveals he’s taking hydroxychloroquine

By Thomas Lifson

President Trump reignited the media firestorm over his endorsement of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) as a prophylactic against and treatment for coronavirus, revealing in response to question that he is currently taking the drug and has been doing so for about two weeks.

To my eyes, he appeared to relish the bewilderment and outrage that immediately started brewing among the media facing him. Watch all four minutes for yourself:

AOC Discovers America

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez calls for voluntarism and mutual aid—as if these were new traditions in our history.
Howard Husock

Here’s a revolutionary idea for a post-Covid-19 America: neighbors helping neighbors, delivering meals to shut-ins, and strengthening common bonds. According to Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, this voluntarism—called “mutual aid”—would represent a stunning break from American tradition. “There are two ways this can go for us,” Ocasio-Cortez recently told The New Yorker’s Jia Tolentino. “We can buy into the old frameworks of, when a disaster hits, it’s every person for themselves. Or we can affirmatively choose a different path. And we can build a different world, even if it’s just in our neighborhood, even if it’s just on our block.”

Though it may come as news to Ocasio-Cortez—an avowed democratic socialist—and her progressive supporters, “the old frameworks” in America included precisely the kinds of assistance she’s touting. The tradition of American mutual aid long predates the welfare state championed by the Left. The choice that she maps out reflects the decidedly nonsocialist views of none other than Alexis de Tocqueville, who celebrated America’s capacity for spontaneous association to address local problems nearly 200 years ago. Any progressive celebration of mutual-aid networks is a welcome, if ironic, acknowledgement of America’s self-help muscle memory.

“We can buy into the old frameworks of, when a disaster hits, it’s every person for themselves.” – AOC quote.

I want to know what planet this bimbo comes from, and how soon we can send her back there. She is so stupid and disconnected from the real world, she doesn’t even know she’s alive. What a cocoon she must carry around with her.

HMCS(FMF) ret

Amen… about as useful as a football bat.

Hondo

I want to know what planet this bimbo comes from . . . .

She was born in the Bronx, and was educated at Boston University. Most of the rest of the country (if not the world) would consider those places virtually a different planet.

Ret_25X

she has never come close to education.

She has, however, been “schooled”

Hondo

she has never come close to education.

Sure she has. BU is a good university. I’m certain she walked right by buildings where education was taking place. She probably attended some or even most of her classes while there.

However, how much she actually learned is debatable.

The fact that she interned with Ted Kennedy and worked for Bernie Sanders in 2016 could also have something to do with her specious grip on how the world actually works, too. Or it might simply be a manifestation of a lack of common sense.

Ret_25X

modern universities do not educate, they school…or as some would say…indoctrinate.

Going to a well known indoctrination center like BU has nothing whatsoever to do with education.

26Limabeans

She thought BU meant “be you”.

David

Projection. If you are a self-centered shallow bitch, you tend to think everyone is. I am not calling her that of course- that would be rude – but she does seem to think everyone is. Ergo…

The Other Whitey

That’s something that’s always bothered me about people like her. They think everyone else is as disgusting as them. It’s insulting as hell.

26Limabeans

Stupid people don’t know that they are stupid.
How could they? They are stupid.

JTB

Goddamn she is dumb…Did she not see all the rednecks in their boats come to the rescue of the people in Houston when a catastrophic Hurricane and flood hit..People like her are so self-absorbed they think nothing happened before they were born…

Ret_25X

No, she did not. People like her never see anything.

Her problem is not low IQ or lack of education, it is narcissism. She simply cannot fathom the concept that the world does not revolve around her own self.

Her parents likely built this maladaptive personality through constant spoiling and over indulgence of her desires and whims.

A person has to be at least slightly self centered to want to be a politician, but our current generation of “me firsters” in congress take some sort of prize.

But then, you have to be narcissistic to be a so called “socialist”…

Clueless idiot. Missed the sequence because of the two phony threads. Can’t tell y’all how many times when we worked storm damaged power and telecom infrastructure that I saw complete strangers coming to the aid of other complete strangers. Folks with their houses totally destroyed outside grilling up the food that was in the freezer, defrosting, to feed the linemen and other folks. Freezer locker had survived the damage cause it was…a freezer. How about the good ole boys in their jacked up 4Xs going into flooded ‘hoods, or dragging their boats hundreds of miles to rescue people and critters. Dahell this bitch been? Oh…right!…Never mind.

And the Donald taking a little preventive medicine? Can’t hurt and is probably helping. Like that 81mg baby aspirin lots of us take. Again, Trump could find a cure for cancer and the progs would scream bloody murder about him putting health care people out of work.

AOC is a prime of example of the clueless NYC liberal who has the misguided belief the the rest of America operates just like NYC. She does not want to see Americans helping Americans, it does not mesh with her socialistic beliefs. Americans should be relying on the government because only they know what’s best for them.

To those who share those beliefs, I say fuck off.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

Who makes that Double trouble semi auto I see at the top. Never seen something like that before.

SFC D

I’m not sure if that 1911 would be classified as Saint John Moses Browning’s wet dream or his nightmare.

David

Arsenal Firearms on Italy. Starts about $5k and prices head north in a hurry.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

I just looked up that 1911 from online prepper gunshop and the price was 7K+ I tried remembering the price but as soon as I hit the first key, I forgot the amount. I should have written it down. Possibly $7,263.00. I never knew something like that was made.

The Other Whitey

I’ve seen disasters of varying scales across California. And I’ve seen all kinds of people helping out in different ways. Some were feeding and sheltering their displaced neighbors. Some hosted livestock. Some patrolled the neighborhood keeping looters away. Some took preventive measures to protect not only their own homes and property, but neighbors and strangers as well. Some did what they could to support firefighters, LEOs, and linemen and other crews restoring vital infrastructure. Some people are just incapable of standing idly by during a crisis and not trying to help in some way. This behavior has been common across racial lines, and I’ve seen it from folks of every color. The common denominator is that it seems most common in the rural areas, small towns, and outlying suburbs. The “redneck” areas, if you will, where people tend to have more of the traditional American independent mindset. The folks out here are always willing to help others out. What Ojos-Locos and the rest of her ilk fail to grasp is that they/we do it of their own accord. Any attempt to compel it via government edict will be rejected out of hand. For some specific examples: During the Cedar Fire, part of the 2003 fire siege in San Diego, my home town was evacuated and the fire got within 150 yards of my house (one of our dozers and the Laguna Hotshots did some kickass work stopping it there). I, a 19-year-old Firefighter-1, spent days on the line believing I didn’t have a home to go back to. I was pleasantly surprised when I finally did get home and found everything right where it should be. I also found a couple of my neighbors had stayed behind and were patrolling the area locked and loaded. They knew everybody, and anyone coming in they didn’t recognize was asked who they knew or were related to. Those who couldn’t name a friend or relative in a particular house were either chased off or detained until sheriffs arrived (quite a few would-be looters were arrested this way). And when the fire got close,… Read more »

Graybeard

Trump sure knows how to run circles around the Left and the Media (but I repeat myself)…

AOC is, IMHO, deluded and willfully ignorant.

OldManchu

She obviously didn’t visit Texas after Hurricane Harvey.

26Limabeans

The subways don’t extend that far.
