A Total of $2,000 to many Americans?

| March 18, 2020

The government is inept. They are not doing enough to stop COVID-19. We need government healthcare for all.  (The Donald Win)

This is one of the plans being considered in a coronavirus package that the White House is working on. The Trump Administration, along with Congress, are working on stimulus plans. The Administration is considering two $1,000.00 paychecks to many Americans. Money is also being considered for small businesses. Americans earning above a to-be-determined amount would not get these paychecks.

The Democrats appear to be receptive to this idea, but they also have their own ideas to provide assistance. Naturally, this will result in both sides coming together to engage in negotiations. The plan being proposed by both sides would result in spending that would be larger than stimulus packages passed during the previous two presidential administrations.

From Thehour.com:

The White House’s evolving spending plan could be unprecedented in its size and velocity, dwarfing the stimulus bill passed during the Obama administration and the Troubled Asset Relief Program passed during the Bush administration. The current $1 trillion Trump plan would seek to spend $500 billion towards the cash payments to individual Americans, though some people wouldn’t qualify if their income is over a certain level.

The White House discussions with Republicans would aim to spend another $50 billion to help rescue the airline industry and $150 billion to prop up other sectors, which could include hotels, among others. Some Democrats have raised concerns about how these funds might be used and have called for putting restrictions on firms that receive emergency assistance to assure that employees aren’t laid off while executives pocket large bonuses.

One of the goals of the White House’s decision to seek $300 billion for small businesses in the plan would be to help firms continue paying employees, as there has already been a wave of layoffs, particularly at restaurants and other companies where business was suddenly halted as millions of Americans began staying at home under government warnings about contagion.

The package doesn’t, at this point, include some of the big tax cuts that President Donald Trump had sought only a few days ago. White House officials pivoted away from the tax cuts after Democrats and Republicans largely panned the idea, and Trump expressed concern that it would take too long for these benefits to filter through to the economy.

White House officials have scrambled in recent days to assemble a massive rescue plan as large parts of the U.S. economy show signs of buckling. The Dow Jones industrial average has fallen more than 9,000 points in one month. Many businesses and schools are closed, and Americans have cancelled travel plans as many avoid unneeded social contact. There are now more than 6,000 cases of coronavirus in the United States, and more than 1,000 new cases were confirmed on Tuesday. Economic and health disruptions are expected to last for months.

The article states that there are more than 6,000 coronavirus cases in the United States. However, the sick map shows over 7,000 coronavirus cases in the U.S. as of this posting. The Hour has more details in this article.

When in doubt…throw MONEY at the problem. That seems to work….

xyzzy

No.

Fuck that.

Throw INTELLIGENCE at the problem. Money, by itself, is useless. One needs intelligence to truly accomplish anything. Get you a good, competent leader who isn’t afraid to piss people off, and has the authority to get shit done, and the whole coronavirus thing will be over by the weekend.

Well, if it was good enough for Wall Street…

Nucsnipe

The dems will want the money go to selected non profits, who will spend it on said dems and their pet projects. Does that sound cynical, or just realistic?

Hack Stone

Don’t forget Planned Parenthood. As long as they are giving out money, we need to prop this organization that provides critical health care to women and those that identify as women.

JTB

Just take it off what we owe China…

Good idea!

That WAS some really good cheese.

I’m sure I won’t qualify. Just as well, I’d just squander it on ammo and bourbon.

This member of the Free Shit Army wants his money now! Hell this stimulus payment is better than calling JG Wentworth.

Hopefully, Trump will not bail out his competitors like Marriott, Hilton, and MGM Resorts. American corporations, especially banks and airlines, should be allowed to fail during this recession. Let’s let Capitalism reign supreme this time around. No corporation is too big to fail.

Fjardeson

CCR, can you believe the megacorps that run the Nevada CASINOS want government relief? After they’ve been ripping off people bad at math for decades? And if they got money, what would they do with it? The casinos are closed. Most of the jobs pay peanuts + tips. You can bet if those greedy (expletive deleted) get ahold of government money it’s going straight into their pocket – or bug out to the Caymans.

This is a lot of panic and knee-jerking. Be interesting to see where this ends up.

Our state has 35 confirmed cases. That is 1/100,000th of a percent of our population. Nationally, if 7,000 people have it, that’s 1.8/100,000th of a percent of our population.

People are acting like this is the big one and that we’re all going to die. When was the last time you saw such widespread panic over something that (at least thus far) affects so few people? Newsom in California is already talking about martial law FFS.

Yep, just chunk a buncha money at a problem. Problem won’t go away, but the pols can feelz good. Already seen some blurbs where Pigalosi is trying to pad it all up, as was discussed above. Too much, too soon, IMHO. Good chance most of us won’t see any of it, except as higher tax payments down the road. GA has somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 cases now, most in the Metro ATL. That’s still north of 8 some odd million that ain’t sick.

If Planned Parenthood shuts down for 2 weeks, that will save more babies than what the total deaths have been thus far. I like the idea of sending the bill for all of this to China too.

I read where SanFranNan tried to slip in a rider to gut the Hyde amendment in the House version, and Rand Paul threw in a get-out-of-Afghanistan adder in the Senate version. Oughta put those two in a pit to fight to the death with nail clippers.

Folks largely missed the 17th.

So…are all the “not my president” degenerates gonna cash their checks or tear them up?

LC

My bet is they’ll do the same as all the deplorables who hate government hand-outs and cash those checks. 😉

Ret_25X

your damned right I will. Why?

Because over the past 5 years I have paid more than 8K per year in income taxes.

I don’t care if actual tax payers get rebates.

Non taxpaying people? Not so much.

Roh-Dog

When they open again, imagine going into a restaurant and giving it all to a waitress who’s a poor single mom that’s been out of work for weeks…
A lot of good can come from this and I’m seeing all ready. People out walking around, smiling and being nice to each other.
The world has changed, I believe for the better!

Roh-Dog

Probably no, like that was the dandruff and lice eggs from your dreads, man.

Trump *IS* my President, but I’m doing fine. Lucky enough to have a job in critical infrastructure, good insurance, and a very small social circle. (And an condo full of booze and books). If I get any money from this, I’m gonna split it between two of my favorite bartenders, who both are out of work.

Fjardeson

*and I’m doing fine

What’s your problem, Comrade?

Commie-Tsar

I will report you to the Party for not being a true member of the Free Shit Army! You are to take any and all FREE SHIT offered to you by the Yankee Imperialist Dogs to help you in your struggle against them!

The PARTY is very disappointed in your actions, Comrade!

Funny, it ain’t the government’s money, it’s OURS.

Or did you forget that?

Oh, and anyone making over $60k/yr need not apply.

Late comment to this thread, but sending checks out to everyone is the dumbest idea. I don’t need a check, people whose job is secure don’t need a check. The people who have now have no income due to this isolation strategy need unemployment insurance.

Give a check to someone who still has a job and they’ll probably order something on Amazon that was made in China, or their kid will.

Stupid, just stupid. More brainy ideas from the people who brought you globalism. I swear, economic advisors must take stupid pills.

Docduracoat

Don’t forget we are talking about a flu virus!
30,000 people, including 144 children died of ordinary flu last year.
No one closed restaurants, or canceled major league sports for the flu.
Tucker Carlson had a report from a French virologist that the malaria/arthritis drug chloroquine cures Corvus flu in 6 days.
I’m seeing this reported on medical blogs as well.
Excellent news if true.
It’s an old drug that is dirt cheap

“The Democrats appear to be receptive to this idea, but they also have their own ideas to provide assistance. Naturally, this will result in both sides coming together to engage in negotiations.’ – article.

More likely, they’ll squabble over who gets what/how much and the Dems will (as always) try to take credit for the whole thing in this election year.

I have never in my life been against any one of you but you took my comment and you deleted it
