Justice Department: 45% of Blacks at Harvard Admitted Through Illegal Race Preferences

Potrooper sends us this article on illegal racial preferencing at Harvard, surprising exactly no one. More than 50 years after the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, recent studies, complaints filed with the U.S. Department of Education, and lawsuits filed against Harvard University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill reveal that many academic institutions are engaging in blatant racial discrimination by gaming the system, denying admission to Asian American students who would otherwise be admitted based on their qualifications and credentials.
From the article:
BY J. CHRISTIAN ADAMS
Almost half of all blacks and Hispanics who attend Harvard were admitted because of illegal racial preferences in admissions according to a brief just filed by the Department of Justice.
The Department of Justice filed the brief in a federal lawsuit filed by Students For Fair Admissions. It says Harvard’s race-based admissions process violates federal law. This filing marks an extreme departure from the Obama Civil Rights Division that spent significant time and resources seeking to expand the use of race in decision making.
The brief says Harvard “considers applicants’ race at virtually every step, from rating applicants to winnowing the field of applicants when attempting to avoid an oversubscribed class.” It notes that forty-five percent of African-Americans and Hispanics at Harvard are there because of racial preferences given to them during the admissions process.
Harvard’s process imposes a racial penalty by systematically disfavoring Asian-American applicants. It does so in part through the subjective personal rating that admissions officers apply with minimal guidance or supervision. That rating produces consistently poorer scores for Asian Americans.
The Justice Department brief also noted that Harvard employs a consistent racial quota to admit applicants to the class in essentially the same percentages, year after year. “The racial breakdown of Harvard’s admitted classes over time reflects that they are the product of deliberate racial balancing,” the brief notes.
While blatantly unfair to qualified Asian’s wishing to attend Harvard, this also does no favors to the over-represented black and Hispanic students. With their lower qualifications they are not prepared for Harvard’s curriculum and suffer from higher drop-out rates.

Elizabeth Warren is outraged…!!!
’bout damn time. That whole gimme attitude kicked in and the qualified people got shoved to the side, just to “make up for past discrimination” or something. Be it a job or a spot in a school it should go to the most qualified. These types of quotas is one of the reasons that the whole school system has been dumbed down. For true equal rights there shouldn’t even be a box for race on the application.
“shouldn’t even be a box for race on the application”
They could probably get away with using photos
but that would be “profiling”.
Don’t forget they also like whiny little bitch soyboys.
But… But… But… they have the empiric data… and the superior intellect to tell you what is best for all of you!!!
No surprise at all to me, let’s not forget that they admitted David Hogg the Bony Eared Assfish because of his political crusading.
Said bony-eared assfish loves to brag about his SAT score. I scored over 100 points higher on the same scale, and the Ivy Leagues weren’t exactly knocking down my door.
Obviously you’re not a femaale, a well-known SJW, or a select “minority” in order to qualify.
I’d say it’s high time a large group of Asians who’ve been turned down by Harvard used the federal statutes as the basis for a class-action suit targeting the school’s $41 Billion endowment, the world’s largest.

Them’s tobacco industry numbers, folks–enough to make any barrister worth his local bar’s annual Snidely D. Whiplash Award thrice hyper: hyperventilating, hyper-salivating and hyper-calculating.
I have four half-Asian children. The two oldest (6 and 4) are already exceeding standards for their respective age groups. Seeing as how they’re white on the other half, Hahvahd probably wouldn’t even look at them. On the other hand, I love my kids far too much to send them to such a shallow and overrated institution. And there’s no way in hell I’d ever let a bunch of spoiled rich-kid frat boy fucks anywhere near my daughters. I trust I needn’t explain why not.
Havaad mostly produces arrogant, entitled assholes who think they shit ice cream and there aren’t enough spoons to go around. Exhibit A is one half Black ex-president who graduated from its law school but never tried a case anywhere.
M.I.T. is the way to go (if your kids are into STEM). 🙂
Wentworth Institute if your kids are in
to the “hands on” part of it.
Starbucks is always in play when your kid’s Queer Studies or Feminist Liberation Studies degree doesn’t produce enough income enough to meet the monthly student loan payment. Said kid can rage against the machine as a tattooed, pierced, and purple haired barista while getting paid!
Does anyone ever bother telling those kids that it’s NOT the Government that sold them worthless degrees, it’s their colleges?
In my humble opinion, college degrees should be limited to Business, Education, Legal, along with anything and everything that falls under STEM. Degrees that can actually can land someone a job.
I agree. There are far too many ‘studies’ degrees. Like it or not, a degree in African-American Studies, Women’s Studies, or Gender Studies is not going to land one a well paying career.
I also think there is too big a college push at the high school level and not nearly enough interest shown to vocational and trade schools.
I agree ArmyATC. I’m a huge supporter of vocational and trade schools. You can make good money and potentially start your own business if you’re really good.
Very true. My oldest son is an honors graduate (actually in the national technical honors society). He’s an aircraft mechanic. My youngest is looking at pursuing the same education (we are an aviation family). My oldest grandson is perusing tech schools now.
Good stuff. Aviation is an excellent field. I’m currently working on my bachelors degree in paralegal studies (I’m tempted to stay as one rather than becoming a lawyer). However, if I were to go to a technical school, it would probably be a maritime school because I love the ocean (my dad was in the Navy and my mom grew up in Puerto Rico so the sea pretty much runs through my family with a large chunk of mom’s side being from Spain). I thought about joining the Navy but I have now decided that I will join the Air Force if I do decide to join the military one day (or even the Space Force. Heh heh).
USN or USAF? by Bob Norris Young Man, Congratulations on your selection to both the Naval and Air Force Academies. Your goal of becoming a fighter pilot is impressive and a fine way to serve your country. As you requested, I’d be happy to share some insight into which service would be the best choice. Each service has a distinctly different culture. You need to ask yourself “Which one am I more likely to thrive in?” USAF Snapshot: The USAF is exceptionally well-organized and well-run. Their training programs are terrific. All pilots are groomed to meet high standards for knowledge and professionalism. Their aircraft are top-notch and extremely well-maintained. Their facilities are excellent. Their enlisted personnel are the brightest and the best trained. The USAF is homogenous and macro. No matter where you go, you’ll know what to expect, what is expected of you, and you’ll be given the training & tools you need to meet those expectations. You will never be put in a situation over your head. Over a 20-year career, you will be home for most important family events. Your Mom would want you to be an Air Force pilot…so would your wife. Your Dad would want your sister to marry one. Navy Snapshot: Aviators are part of the Navy, but so are Black shoes (surface warfare) and bubble heads (submariners). Furthermore, the Navy is split into two distinctly different Fleets (West and East Coast). The Navy is heterogeneous and micro. Your squadron is your home; it may be great, average, or awful. A squadron can go from one extreme to the other before you know it. You will spend months preparing for cruise and months on cruise. The quality of the aircraft varies directly with the availability of parts. Senior Navy enlisted are salt of the earth; you’ll be proud if you earn their respect. Junior enlisted vary from terrific to the troubled kid the judge made join the service. You will be given the opportunity to lead these people during your career; you will be humbled and get your hands dirty. The quality of your… Read more »
I graduated from a state university. But back in the late 1960’s we didn’t have all these bullshit majors, like ethnic studies, gender studies, wymyns’ studies and other absurdities. We just had worthless majors like philosophy and mine, political science.
Rose-Hulman. Consistently ranked one of the top 25 in the nation.
Are you an alum by chance? Class of ’96 here…
No, simply an Indiana citizen who knows of the school’s reputation. I’m not nearly smart enough to get into such a prestigious STEM school.
For what it’s worth, I ‘survived’ as much as I graduated.
I don’t give a fuck about Harvard. That university has no credibility with respect to admission criteria.
Half their seats go to donors and children of the connected and influential.
That being said, affirmative action is necessary because we do not live in a meritocracy.
And if you think affirmative action was not needed look at pictures of the 1950s era NBA and NFL champion teams compared to the teams in the post affirmative action era.
If anything was merit based the sports community should have been.
If prejudice effected outcomes in something where skill and performance can be empirically measured like sports…you damn well know it effects outcomes in the rest of our political economy.
And, by the way, before you start throwing the whole “Berkeley” education bullshit at me…
The UC system stop using affirmative action based on race, ethnicity, or gender more than a decade ago.
Who lit the fuse on your tampon today, Larsie?
Have some free time this morning.
I am always pissed off though.
Bet you’re a hell of a lot of fun at parties!
“and he’ll always be known as an Angry Young Man” – Billy Joel
“I am always pissed off though.”
Stop reading newspapers and watching television news. I did, and my disposition has improved tremendously. So has my hold on reality.
Yours must be a truly miserable existence, Lars. Have you ever pondered the possibility that other people might not be the source of your problems?
“I am always pissed off though.”
No surprise to me, you’re always pissed like a Chihuahua!
Not a good analogy. The 50’s were the beginning of the breaking of the color barrier, followed by the 60’s Civil Rights movement. Professional sports indeed became a meritocracy, where who could put points on the board overcame skin color. How many whites are on NBA teams now?
Affirmative action is reverse racial discrimination, and unconstitutional. FTA:
unless you believe the Bakke decision, which ruled that racial discrimination was partially OK (my phrasing, not the Court’s) back in 1978. Race could be used as A criterion as long as it wasn’t the SOLE criterion. One of those cases where a bad case made for bad law; there were six different opinions from the 9 judges.
Okay, how about affirmative action in sports? When was the last time that you saw an albino Eskimo sporting a Super Bowl ring? We need an equal representation of all ethnic groups in every major league sports team, because diversity is our strength.
WHAT!!?? Harvard let in many unqualified students through the quota system?
This is my surprised face. Miss you Jonn …
Must be some former (retired?) military flag officers in charge of admissions at Harvard and UNC.
One word….Plastics.
Have you ever seen the Middle Eastern remake of The Graduate? That line was rewritten to “Two words… Plastic explosives.”
Would that be the same ex-president who made sure all his college and university records would remain under permanent seal? And here we thought he was just trying to conceal his grade average!
