Put the Word Out….

| February 1, 2020

A Congress critter named Kathy Castor wants Google/YouTube to demonetize anyone who posts videos that do not agree with her point of view on the alleged “climate crisis”.  https://climatecrisis.house.gov/sites/climatecrisis.house.gov/files/SCCCLetterYouTube.pdf

As a corporate entity, YouTube, a subsidiary platform of Google, has the right to decide what to publish/monetize and what to not assist in paying people. Seems to me that Kathy Castor is plainly violating the 1st Amendment with a personalized demand to Google to make YouTube bar opposing points of view. This is corruption of power at its worst.

Of course, her demand letter kind of conflicts with this bit of Congressional funding involving geoengineering:

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2020/01/29/u-s-geoengineering-research-gets-a-lift-with-4-million-from-congress/

The downside of this for Kathy Castor is that the other shoe is dropping. She has a degree in political science. In 2018, a real climate science guy, Patrick Michaels explained why 31 out of 32 claims about models for ‘global warming’ were invalid.  Patrick Michaels worked as a senior fellow in environmental studies at the Cato Institute until 2019.  https://wattsupwiththat.com/2020/01/31/dem-lawmaker-gets-pushback-after-asking-youtube-to-stop-spreading-climate-skepticism/

Michaels experienced a similar incident in September 2019, when Facebook deemed false claims he and another scientist made in a Washington Examiner editorial. The tech company eventually removed the label after Michaels argued their points in a letter to CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Facebook exempted opinion content and political advocacy organizations from the social media giant’s independent fact-checking efforts in October of that year after the DCNF’s report highlighting Michaels’s complaints. – WUWT article

Since there are two or more sides to every story, Rep. Castor is completely out of line in her demand that an opposing point of view be removed from YouTube/Google. This is a clear violation of the 1st Amendment, regarding freedom of speech. She has the right to state her opinion and concerns. But her demand that Google demonetize YouTube platforms that she disagrees with is a form of extortion on her part. In case you are wondering, Google/YouTube gets a portion of the ads revenue, which means that demonetizing those channels cuts into their base income.

All I’m saying is that she has gone too far. Someone needs to put a choke chain on her and remind her that her job is to serve the people in her district, not her own personal wants and needs. Persuading people that ‘we’re all doomed because climate change!’ is ludicrous enough, but shutting off opposing views is what Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and all those other creatures did. The difference between then and now is that electronic media dominate communications almost everywhere. Anyone who really wants to do so and has the time and skills for it can start a channel of his own.

Having an opposing point of view is legitimate in any discussion; it’s what real debates are all about, not that eye-poking and hair-pulling crap going on with the idjit “debates” that the Dems keep inflicting on the public.  It appears to me that Castor is demanding an illegal action be performed by Google.

And there’s one other thing: if you don’t like someone else’s opinions, no one is forcing you to read, listen to, or pay any attention to them. It’s that simple.

I think that it’s time to ask just what Castor is afraid of, and why? Read her demand letter, at the pdf link. Print it out and make other people aware of what she’s up to. It’s extremely important to be aware of what these people are trying to do, and how insidious it is.

“Totalitarian’: House Climate Chair Slammed For Urging Google To Squelch ‘Climate Misinformation'”:

    https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2020/jan/29/kathy-castor-house-climate-chair-slammed-urging-go/

“The chair of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis was accused Wednesday of censorship after calling on Google to take action against YouTube videos that promote “climate denial and climate misinformation.”

“Rep. Kathy Castor, Florida Democrat, asked Google in a Monday letter to remove “climate disinformation videos” from YouTube’s “recommendation algorithm,” demonetize videos that promote “harmful misinformation,” and correct the record for those exposed to such“misinformation.”

“Google, which owns YouTube, has yet to comment publicly, but climate skeptics were outraged, charging the congresswoman with attempting to shut down debate on climate policy by silencing dissenting voices, no matter how knowledgeable about climate science.”

“Rep. Castor’s demand that Google pull down climate skeptic YouTube videos because she doesn’t approve of their content says a lot about the totalitarian instincts of the climate movement,” said JunkScience’s Steve Milloy.”

    • Ex-PH2 says:

“Castor began her legal career as assistant general counsel to the Florida Department of Community Affairs.”

She started in public administration law, per the Wiki article. I interpret that to infer that she could not find a job as an associate attorney (starting point) at a reputable law firm, so she looked for a gubmint job. Tsk tsk tsk…..

      Thanks for the link.

      • rgr769 says:

Yup, another purported lawer that has never sat a counsel table in a courtroom. She has been sucking on the tit of government her entire career. I also see she was what we used to affectionately call a soror-whore (she was a Tri-Delt in college). Anyway, that is what we called them back in my college days. Note: I was not a frat-rat (not that there is anything wrong with that, sarc).

  3. AW1Ed says:

Ex and I had a bit of a cofab about this- my input was what is her Plan B? Disagree with her outlook and it’s off to the Gulag, Comrade? She’s in clear violation of her Oath of Office.

Institution and Origins of the Development of the Oath-of-Office

“I, Katherine Anne Castor, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

The Second Amendment protects all the rest from her ilk.

What I love is they only started calling it “climate change” instead of glowbull warming after reality proved Professor Mann’s predictions from his “engineered” model completely bogus. When the earth didn’t heat up as they predicted, they had an “oh shit” moment and decided henceforth we will call it “climate change.” That way if we have some cold spells, they can continue to scream “climate change is going to kill us all.”

      HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…
The climate of planet Earth has changed over the years, many of them before mankind AND before the introduction of coal-fired machinery, the Internal Combustion Engine and other things. YOU are a very thoroughly brainwashed useful IDIOT that will NEVER make it in the Private Sector like I have for multiple decades, YOU will only be able to make an income as some nameless Government bureaucrat behind the walls of a cubicle IF you can even rate that…

      YOU lose yet again.

How very totalitarian of you! You truly fit in well with the rest of the Democrat fascists. We have this thing called the 1st Amendment – I believe you may have heard of it – that guarantees our right to free speech. That means we can state or opinion or point of view on basically any subject whether you like it or not.

    • Ex-PH2 says:

Well, as usual, Commissar missed the entire subject of the article, which is Castor’s abuse of her own authority to silence other people who have dissenting opinions.

This proves EMPIRICALLY what we’ve known all along, boys and girls: Commissar is dumber than a box of painted rocks, thicker than bayou bottom mud, and can be easily outwitted by his own shoes.

    • The Other Whitey says:

As always, Commissar knows everything and how dare we plebeian untermensch dispute anything he says.

As a reminder, Kathy Castor participated in John Lewis’ 2016 Sit-In on Gun Control.

You know. Exercising her 1st Amendment rights while WASTING Taxpayer $$$$.

Wasting Taxpayer $$$$. Some things never change with those folks. Does Impeachment and the Mueller Report sound familiar?

    • Ex-PH2 says:

And she, as well as others like her, completely ignore that part about “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

Basically, the 11th Amendment, which she does not seem to be aware of, gives states the right/power to make laws regarding gun control. And so far, especially since the majority of guns used in crimes in cities like Chicago + suburbs are stolen, gun control laws are useless and a waste of taxpayers’ time in the legislature.

  8. ArmyATC says:

This is simply more proof that Democrats are anti-Constitution totalitarians. Democrats have been on a roll lately with their infringements of the 2nd Amendment in Virginia and pushing for legislation to make criticism of the government a crime. More and more they’re showing themselves to be the party of anti-constitutionalism and fascism.

  9. The Other Whitey says:

Dissent is one of the foundations of America. Democrats wish to silence and criminalize it. Silencing and punishing dissent is the core of fascism.

My Baby Girl (a “Special Needs” Teacher) and Son n Law (A Lawer) have been caught behind enemy lines in Hillsborough County since ’06. Every gubmint entity there is rife with bloating, corrupt, self serving egotists. The County Commissioners and the Board of Education pi$$ away more money on fraud and waste than many other BoEs ever see. Word down there is this congress critter is undefeatable because of her gender, the layout of the district, and the mass #s in the FSA. Climate Crisis Committee indeed. The only Climate Crisis is they haven’t really figured out a way to add more taxes to our bill.

Big question is would IDC SARC hit it…preferably with a 2X4?

  11. Hey Castor, how about taking 2 table spoons of oil and chill out. While we are on the subject about the demorats trying to suppress the 1A, did anyone here if the California Gov is going to try and make it illegal for anyone to bad mouth him? I heard this last week.

That’s it, Virginia, so how come California popped up in my aged brain. My friend who moved to Virginia from Long Beach, NY last August told me that only one gun a month and a fee on each purchase going to the state for gun safety. Took him only 3 weeks to get his CCW permit which was the other day. No facial pic on the permit unlike Florida.
