Citizen holds CTA robbery offender at gunpoint in Loop
but the good Samaritan may be in hot water, too
An armed citizen held an alleged robbery offender at gunpoint following a violent mugging on a CTA train in the Loop on Wednesday morning, police said. Charges are pending against the offender, and the good Samaritan is also in legal jeopardy.
Officers responded to the LaSalle Blue Line station at 6:50 a.m. after 911 callers reported that a man beat and robbed a passenger while riding a train, police said. Some callers reported that the robbery offender was lying on the platform with a private citizen holding him at gunpoint.
The alleged robber was detained by arriving cops.
A 29-year-old man told police the offender lunged at him as he sat on a Blue Line train minutes earlier. The offender began punching the victim in the head and face, then took unspecified property from the man before exiting the train car as it stopped at LaSalle, police said.
A private citizen intercepted the offender on the platform and held him at gunpoint until police arrived, a source confirmed.
The source also said the private citizen holds a valid Firearm Owner’s ID card.
Charges are pending against the offender, police said. The victim declined medical treatment, and officers returned the man’s stolen property.
As of midday Wednesday, prosecutors in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office continued to mull the possibility of filing weapons charges against the citizen, a source said.

Ohhhhh, pretty gun pr0n……..
Did you see Kimber’s commemorative Centennial 1911? I was discussing that beauty with my crew back in 2011, passing around a magazine with gorgeous pictures thereof. One of the guys declared, “That is GOD’s gun right there!”
https://www.tactical-life.com/firearms/kimber-1911-centennial-edition/
Tell me that color case-hardened frame ain’t beautiful!
Another nice one is the Desert Eagle 1911… nicest factory 1911 I ever shot.
I was surprised by the Ruger 1911. Very well done.
Nothin’ sez lovin’ like breaking into your ex’s place and assaulting her current beau. And what do you get for your troubles? Shot and killed. Life just ain’t fair.
To the Brophy Blvd, Brevard County homeowner: you are a GO at this station, no further range time needed. Carry on.
Now hold on there TDRBW, that young man fired five or six shots (he is not sure) hitting an assailant climbing through a window, but also at the other behind him. The young man is not sure if he hit the other. While he was able to stop the threat, and the second individual may be captured due to good police work, his shooting skills definitely require additional training.
Two shots center mass, continue to observe for movement…one in the head if upright and still a threat (assailant may be armored). Always know where your rounds go, and what is behind them if you over penetrate. Not knowing if you hit something you may or may not have been shooting at is never a good thing. Good on him for not shooting a fleeing suspect, that way an injured assailants family and lawyers can’t say “…he didn’t have to kill him, he was a good kid, he sang in the choir and only wanted to make something of his life…”
As for the Shit-cago kerfluffle: I’m getting to the point where I would have advised the Good Samaritan citizen to shoot the perp in the kneecap(s), regained the stolen property and give it back to the victim, and then just walk away.
Really? Considering filing weapons charges against the Good Samaritan citizen, because……..?
Because that man doesn’t think he is a Serf, thus he needs to become a bad example for other uppity serfs.

One should always exercise caution and discretion when laying pipe.

Flowerley speech will in no way pay proper Honors to that most lovely Colt’s Rendition of the Saintly John Moses Browning’s (Howitzer be his name) Design. HUBBA! HUBBA!
Ex Ms Thang in NC musta had some poon tang “to die for.” Take those memories to the grave dumbass. Good riddance to trash.
Chit-congo; Fake a raciss attack, burn up popo time and $ and sue the city for a nice payout. Defend an innocent citizen with a legal firearm from the same kind of trash and go to jail. daHell?
Brevard Co; Looks like everybody knows there that it will be awhile before the popo shows up. To quote SgtMaj Plumley in the Ia Drang LZ X-Ray “Gentlemen, prepare to defend yourselves!” BZ to the prepared citizen.
Leave it to Illinois to charge a citizen with peacefully detaining an assailant with a lawful gun permit…they will probably say he did not have a concealed Carry license (an additional $200 fee)!
Like the young lady who stopped a mugging by shooting the assailant in the chest, but got arrested for only having a Firearm Owners ID and not the additional CCW license.
The Chicago Good Samaritan may be charged for possessing a firearm on Transit Authority property.
Which has a rule AGAINST having guns on property.
I hope the jury hears about jury nullification in that case
Once, during voir-dire, I told the judge I have carried fire arms recreationally and professionally. He said he didn’t understand and had to think about it.
Voir-dire: Latin for Jury Tampering.
You mean, that ancient Legal right, dating back a millennium, that says a Jury must also judge the Law and the prosecution, as well as the defendant?
Short version “Not guilty, because this so-called law is bullshit.”
