Funerals for Pfc Robert J. Hatch (World War II) and CPL Joe T. Avant (Korea)

| December 5, 2019

Funerals will be held next week for the following previously missing individuals recently accounted for by DPAA.

. . .

This October, DPAA announced that it had accounted for Pfc Robert J. Hatch, USMC. Pfc Hatch was lost on Tarawa on 22 November 1943.

Pfc Hatch will be buried next week – on Friday, 13 December – in Greenwood, Mississippi. Regrettably, DPAA does not seem to have posted the specific location and time for his funeral services or interment.

If any TAH readers have the precise location and time for Pfc Hatch’s funeral services or interment, please post it in comments below. And if any readers are in the area and have the time, here’s an opportunity to give someone lost during World War II a proper final send-off.

. . .

This September, DPAA announced that it had accounted for CPL Joe T. Avant, US Army. CPL Avant was lost in North Korea on 30 November 1950.

CPL Avant will be buried next week – on Saturday, 14 December – in Bountiful, Utah. Regrettably, DPAA does not seem to have posted the specific location and time for his funeral services or interment.

If any TAH readers have the precise location and time for CPL Avant’s funeral services or the time for his interment, please post it in comments below. And if any readers are in the area and have the time, here’s an opportunity to give someone lost during the Korean War a proper final send-off.

Please note in my previous comments I updated the dates and location for the funeral services for both Men.

It may be too early for funeral homes to publish the exact times of the memorial service.

Rest In Peace, Gentlemen. Salute. You Were Never Forgotten.

Will raise a glass in Salute to the Service and Sacrifice of these Warriors. Rest Easy Me.

Thanks for the update Hondo. And Thanks to ninja for the added linkys. The boys that helped me renovate the Firebase Magnolia Old Farmhouse are Avants. There is a good chance that there is a connection there as he had told me previously that they had people in MS.

Thank You, KoB, for the additional information.

Am now wondering if Robert Hatch is indirectly related to Orin Hatch of Utah.

May the road rise to meet them and the winds be always at their backs.

God rest them in peace.
