Michelle Obama: Whites Still Running From Blacks

| November 1, 2019

Don’t want to deal with the impacts of leftist policies? Racist. (r/The_Donald)

Former First Lady Michelle Obama spoke at a summit at the Obama Foundation. She recounted her childhood years growing up. She grew up with friends from all backgrounds. She said that Caucasians left neighborhoods that African-Americans moved into.

She argued that this is a process that still continues today. Throughout the article, she tried to paint a picture of “racist whites” who didn’t like what other groups represent.

Looking at articles that are posted here, and elsewhere, could this “flight” have something to do with the negative side effects of near-perpetual Democrat rule? Gun violence? Poor economic opportunities?

From the Washington Post:

In 2010, Chicago had the fifth-highest combined racial and economic segregation in the nation and the 10th-highest black and white segregation, according to a 2017 study from Chicago-based Metropolitan Planning Council. Chicago is now ranked the fourth-most segregated city in the country, USA Today Money reported in July.

White flight reduced the city’s capital for schools, infrastructure and other community resources, something Obama noticed when she was growing up. She said she felt a sense of injustice as a child because she could see and feel that people were running from families like hers. She noted that she and her brother had friends of all races when they first moved in.

“There were no gang fights; there were no territorial battles. Yet one by one, they packed their bags, and they ran from us. And they left communities in shambles,” she said during her time of plugging the Obama Presidential Center to be built in Jackson Park, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

She and her husband were considering a beachfront property at Martha’s Vineyard. That’s far from the neighborhood that she talked about above.

It’s easier to pull the race card then to look at the actual problems or causes. Could racism have played a role? Yes. However, there are other variables at play.

Maybe look at the political party that dominated the city’s government over the past few decades. Perhaps by the time that Michelle Obama witnessed the “white flight”, the negative effects of “progressive” policies were already being felt.

Cameron:

Thank You for sharing that video.

The Twins in the Video nailed it in everything they said.

One of the comments to their video was “If the Ombamas moved into my Hood, I would leave too.”

😂🤣😅😆

Poor Michelle. She probably has PTSD from that childhood experience and has not gotten over the “trauma”. (sarc on).

Cameron Kingsley

Glad I could be of service.😊

At least Michelle Obummer didn’t have to live with the constant threat of sniper fire.

Let me be the FIRST to add my BS flag to yours thebesig. This scrunt is continuing to blame “whitey” for all of the self and demonrat created problems in society. Why did the tax base erode as one family moved out and another moved in? Did they lower the property tax of 123 Maple St when it changed ownership? Hells to the nah. Decent folks will move from a neighborhood when trash moves in. Every.effing.time! Be they white, black, brown, red, green, or purple, trash is trash and crosses all ethnic backgrounds. And the demon rat party has endeavored for DECADES is not more than a century and a half to “keep them on the plantation.” And “the plantation” can be depicted as the gubmint run trash heaps of housing in the northern cities even more than a depiction of Tara/Stately Oaks. We stayed in a housing project for about 18 months in ’61 & ’62. The white folk housing and the black folk housing were separated by one street. All the kids played together in the common playground and the black mamas and daddies watched after and disciplined their children as well as the white parents. The decline of the housing really got started with the decline of the family unit. We were looking for affordable housing out of there when the gubmint came along and offered basically free housing, food stamps, ect to white and black families that had no “visible means of support” ie no father. Papa found additional work in sharecropping to supplement his mechanics pay and we got the eff out. Most of the other white folk and a goodly number of the blacks did to. In just a few short years both projects turned into crime infested hell holes. Same thing happened with the arrival of Section 8 housing. What had been middle to upper middle class mixed neighborhoods deteriorated rapidly into slums, trashed up yards, broken vehicles and furniture all in the yard. Screw you Mooshelle. The color of your skin has absolutely nothing to do with pulling yourself out of any… Read more »

Nicely put. They are still using the same old tactics. And they wonder why Trump won.

Club Manager, USA ret.

You nailed it. The City of Pine Bluff Arkansas is now 78 percent African-American. The mix was substantially less 20 years ago. Then came an unqualified mayor elected primarily because he was African-American and the city was ruined administratively and fiscally. Many African-Americans moved to get away from the declining services, shootings, drugs, major store closures and uncouth people of their race. The fact the city council was incompetent didn’t help matters. Pine Bluff now has a competent African-American mayor and some sanity on the city council and seems to be bouncing back to being a viable place to live. They have a casino being built and they claim to be finding enough local hires who can pass a urinalysis. Bottom line is yes, some people move because they do not want to live among people not like them. However, many move to find better schools and quality of life conditions in which to raise their children. We were opposed to our children being exposed to Ebonics in school and thankfully our grandchildren’s parents feel the same way.

So, I’m New Jersey, a couple of Indian (not Native American) kids harassed some black girls and a NYT editorialist claimed that they were “enacting whiteness”.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/26/opinion/new-jersey-high-school-racism.html

Gosh, according to all these left wing intellectuals we awful white people corrupt everything we come into contact with, so I wonder why they would care if we tried to go our own way such that our terrible influence doesn’t ruin everything.

Just Lurkin

“So, in New Jersey…”

Cameron Kingsley

Of course they ignore the fact that many Asians do not like blacks and this is particularly common place for the Chinese and from what I hear, Koreans. Heck, my grandmother and some of my family members on my mom’s side of the family are from Puerto Rico and they were not exactly fond of blacks either.

Ex-PH2

Now THAT was funny!!!

I don’t get it. I went to integrated schools my whole life, before that word ever entered the public vocabulary. There was no place else for the black kids to go to school. Some of them took the high schools to state championships in sports. Never saw any of that crap until George Wallace, the then governor of Alabama, blocked entrance by Vivan Malone and James Hood to the University of Alabama.

Didn’t get it then, still don’t get it. The only critters pushing this asinine agenda are people like that toad trying to push the race card. I wish she’d dry up and fall into an empty hole in the ground. Someone should tell her right to her face that she’s fat and boring.

Slowest Joe

Oh no, you can’t Fat-Shame people on the interwebz.

Specially not Michelle Hussein Obama!

Ex-PH2

:p :p :p :p :p

OldSoldier54

It IS funny … and accurate, IMO.

Ret_25X

This entire concept is just ignorant of history.

As neighborhoods age and newer homes are built elsewhere, home values and rents decline in the older areas.

Lower rents brings in lower incomes.

Lower incomes often brings crime and lower home values.

Anyone with any sense sees it coming and leave.

Which is why there is a constant churn for most working class neighborhoods.

What is even funnier to me is that once values bottom, people reinvest into the homes and properties returning value to the neighborhood.

What does Michelle call that? Oh that’s right….gentrification.

In the ignorance of the blame game, all outcomes are the fault of people who probably don’t even live there.

Martinjmpr

You need to read the script.

If Whitey moves away from a mixed neighborhood, it’s white flight because whitey is racist and bad.

If Whitey moves INTO a black or mixed neighborhood and starts fixing up his house or opening a business, it’s “gentrification” which raises rents and keeps poor blacks from living there because whitey is racist and bad.

If Whitey does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING then whitey is supporting the status quo because whitey is racist and bad.

The race hustlers are philosophically consistent, I’ll say that for them.

Roh-Dog

“The race hustlers are philosophically consistent”, because being an assh*le is just too damn easy for some people.

OldSoldier54

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Comm Center Rat

So in keeping with Michelle’s theory of white flight, should we expect an exodus of wealthy white families from Martha’s Vineyard soon?

HMCS(FMF) ret

Nah… you see those in liberal WHITE enclaves, like Martha’s Vineyard aren’t white like people in flyover country. They’re the “correct” type of white, in Mooch’s eyes.

MK75Gunner

I always find it odd that no one ever asks Mooch why they moved to a white neighborhood to begin with since white people suck so badly. You would think that an all black neighborhood would be so much better given there would be no racist whiteys there. Were they fleeing their fellow blacks? Also her contention that “they” left the neighborhood in shambles is laughable on its face. They left, supposedly. The people that destroyed your neighborhood were your folks mooch. All this is really a moot point since she grew up in a middle class neighborhood with a Mom and Dad who were both gainfully employed with solid well paying jobs. She is a complete fraud who never missed a meal, never lived in an actual housing project, never struggled in any manner whatsoever other than with the fact that she wasn’t ever a real victim of racism no matter how many apocryphal stories she shills.

26Limabeans

So she fled to the wealthiest black community
on Earth….Martha’s Vineyard.
The hypocrisy is stunning.

HMCS(FMF) ret

Mooch loves playin’ the race card… it’s the only card in her deck!

OldSoldier54

She learned from the best … her husband.

Hondo

There were no gang fights; there were no territorial battles.

Ms. Obama was born in 1964. She should remember much of the 1970s and all of the 1980s quite well – because that is when she grew up (she turned 16 in 1980).

If she actually believes what she wrote above, history says that her memory regarding 1970s and 1980s gang activity in Chicago is . . . faulty. And that’s being charitable.

http://www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/497.html

Whether her faulty memory is intentional or not, I won’t speculate.

The Stranger

That’s right, cloud the issue with the truth!🧐

Ex-PH2

I think it’s intentionally poor recollection. It it weren’t intentional, she’d know about Jeff Fort and the El Rukns, and the political connections he made in the 1970s and 1980s.

She is, as always, full of ‘oh, pity me’ BS, but what do you expect from someone whose bad taste in clothing crops up regularly right in front of everyone?

The Stranger

Hell, Jeff Fort was making INTERNATIONAL political connections (Qaddafi’s Libya). That was one bad dude, which is why he’s parked at the Supermax in Florence, CO.

Hondo

More like international terrorist connections of the Islamic kind.

Fort is confined in Florence Supermax for the rest of his life – well, technically he’s serving sentences totaling 168 years to be served consecutively which began in the late 1980s (he’s 72 today). His crimes? Among other things, he and members of his El Rukn gang conspired to commit terrorist attacks in the US on the behalf of a foreign nation (Libya) in exchange for $2.5M and weapons.

Fort had previously converted to Islam while in prison in the early/mid 1970s; his post-conversion name was Abdul Malik Ka’bah. The term “El Rukn” is in fact an Arabic phrase meaning “the pillar”.

Fyrfighter

Hmm.. It’s almost like muslim “clerics” that “minister” to those in prison are ACTUALLY just there to convert criminals in jihadis…

Martinjmpr

A Proud Infidel®™️

Some outfit published poll results saying that Mooch 0bama was more popular than Das Hildebeast, IMHO that’s like saying that Chlamidia is more popular than Herpes!

Hondo

Now, regarding the larger issue Ms. Obama addresses – indirectly and inaccurately – above. IMO both 5/77 FA and Ret_25X have each identified one part of the reason many (if not most) poorer inner-city neighborhoods are poor places to live. However, there is IMO a third factor that is even more important: the number of parents physically present in a typical family. And IMO that third factor is primarily responsible for the disproportionate racial skewing of “bad” inner-city neighborhoods. Statistics regarding the racial breakout of single-parent families covering a ten-year period (2008-2017) can be found here. They probably can be found for other years elsewhere; however, this dataset is almost certainly enough to support my argument here. Nationally, today roughly one third (32-35%, depending on year) of US children live in single-parent homes. However, that percentage varies widely by race and ethnicity. And those percentages are surprisingly steady over the ten year period linked above. Families of Asian/Pacific Islander heritage have the lowest percentage of children living in a single-parent home (15-17%). Non-Hispanic Whites have the next lowest percentage (22-24%); the third lowest group is Hispanic/Latino (38-42%). Roughly half of American Indian children live in single-parent homes (50-54%). Nearly two thirds of African American children live in single-parent families (65-67%). Children living in a mixed-race family (2 or more races) mirror the Hispanic/Latino community in this regard, living in single-parent homes between 41% and 43% of the time. As 5/77 FA observes, people of all races leave bad neighborhoods if/when they can. However, doing so takes money – as Ret_25X observed, “bad” neighborhoods tend to have lower rents/property values than “good” neighborhoods. Those “bad” neighborhoods thus tend to be low-income. It’s substantially harder for a single-parent family to come up with the money necessary to pay the higher rents in a better neighborhood than a two-parent family, even if they can somehow come up with the cash needed to relocate. In a two-parent family, both can work – and that second income may well be the “deal maker”. Given the demographics of single-parent families, it should be no surprise that… Read more »

A couple of years ago there was a study that found that if you want to avoid poverty there are three simple things you should do:

1) Get, and keep, a job
2) Get, and stay, married
3) Wait until you are married to have kids

This is all pretty straightforward, but it looks like a bridge too far for too many young people. The epidemic of fatherlessness described above has wreaked havoc on our society and it will take a lot of doing to fix the problems associated with it. Already there is at least a generation of young men who have grown up without fathers, who are more likely to end up in jail, more likely to experience a variety of problems and perhaps even more likely to not live as long (yes there was a study that found that children who did not have a dad had shortened telomeres and that that phenomena was more pronounced in boys than in girls).

And while this is certainly a product of male irresponsibility towards their children, let’s not let women off too easily in this matter either. There was a study recently that found that women on dating sites rated 80% of men “below average”. Our society tells women that they don’t “have to settle” and why should they when uncle sucker will play the role of provider in the form of AFDC or TANF or whatever you want to call it.

The proponents of evolutionary psychology have some logical explanations of why all of this is so, but they aren’t particularly flattering about human behavior so they are largely ignored as we prefer a lot of “blank slate” nonsense. “Chesterton’s gate” is a good philosophical principle about why we shouldn’t go around tearing down the structures we inherit, but, once upon a time, too many believed that they knew better and they pushed forward all sorts of “social reforms”. What they almost did was reform the family out of existence and now we are dealing with the problems resulting from that.

Poetrooper

“Our society tells women that they don’t “have to settle” and why should they when uncle sucker will play the role of provider in the form of AFDC or TANF or whatever you want to call it.”

A commentator on FOX the other night referred to such women as being,

“Married to the government.”

My wife and I instantly looked at each other with the realization he had just summed up the situation succinctly and correctly.

Martinjmpr

It’s tough to have a stable neighborhood if it has a subculture that

1. Glorifies (or even just fails to disapprove of) illegitimacy (the “baby momma/baby daddy” phenomenon)which makes the formation of stable families very difficult

2. Resents authority in every form (whether that resentment is justified or not is irrelevant: Without authority there is no way to enforce conduct or social norms) and celebrates (or at the very least fails to condemn) lawlessness and crime (“Gangsta” and rap culture.)

3. Is pre-conditioned to believe that all of its problems are the result of past oppression and thus are the responsibility of someone else to fix (and again, whether this is “true” in some objective sense or not is irrelevant because it is the attitude itself that is toxic and damaging.)

Can you blame upwardly mobile people (of whatever race) from not wanting to live in a neighborhood that is filling up with people who bring such attitudes?

Yes, I know it’s “racist” to say that. Yadda yadda yadda, at this point anything a white person does or says can be labeled “racist” so the insult has lost all real meaning.

The funny thing is that even white liberals don’t want to live in predominately black neighborhoods. When they have kids they almost always move to an all-white or mostly white neighborhood and the euphemistic code word they use is “good schools.”

As in “we love the vibrant and diverse culture of Ethnicburg, but Whiteyville is known for its ‘good schools’, so that’s why we’re moving there.”

11B-Mailclerk

Johnson and the Democrats destroyed black society and family with their “Great Society” crap, the single worst Jim Crow law ever passed. Racist swine.

Mason

“White flight reduced the city’s capital for schools, infrastructure and other community resources”

and

“one by one, they packed their bags, and they ran from us. And they left communities in shambles”

So she’s saying that only white people pay taxes and that the absence of white people devastates and destroys communities. The inverse of this is that she believes black people don’t pay taxes and the presence of only black people in a neighborhood means the presence of gang fights and territorial battles.

What an utterly racist line of reasoning she employs. Only the white people can fix her neighborhoods apparently. Such a fucking bigot she is.

Martinjmpr

I think what she’s saying is that she hates everything about white people.,,,

Except their money. She LOVES that.

Michelle brings to mind the Lincoln aphorism:

“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.”

By the way, from my perch in front of this computer here in the corner of our sun room, the two closest homes visible through the trees are both owned by blacks who graciously refrained from moving out when Miz Poe and I moved in.

I doubt they pay the Mooch much mind.

I’m still trying to figure out just exactly what, in terms of education, experience, employment history, or any other category qualifies Ms Obama to define the origin or give solutions to any problem. She’s ridden the coattails of her husband and was handed do-nothing, high profile jobs by his political handlers, the people who created him out of whole cloth. They’re both stand-ins for the Chicago political machine that actually believe they have some sort of authority.

Poetrooper

There was a similar concept that happened when EMTs were going into predominately black, crime-infested areas of the city to render aid to the victim of a shooting.

The EMTs themselves were shot at. So they instituted a policy that they would not go in ahead of a police escort.

This was labeled as “racist” and perpetuated the idea that black lives don’t matter or something to that effect when the EMTs were merely placing emphasis on their safety.

A similar issue surfaced in New York City when the actor Danny Glover discovered that cab drivers were reluctant to give him a ride, presumably because he was black.

Fellow actor Denzel Washington cited a similar experience with NYC taxis passing him up but said that you don’t really know what is going on with the cab drivers – maybe they have experienced a greater proportion of robberies or being stiffed on a tip by black clients and their past experience was guiding their judgment. Washington went on to state that he was not flashing his Academy Award so they didn’t know who he was. He did not fault the cab drivers, saying they are just businessmen. Himself, he didn’t give it much thought, went about his business and just flagged another taxi.

These are complex and ambiguous situations but I can see where they are ripe for the picking for anyone that wants to make the case for racism.

timactual

When I was stationed in Germany back in the 60’s we used to take taxis a lot. They were all Mercedez Benzes(?) and they all had very little legroom in the back seat. There was little legroom because a lot of space was taken up by the armor plated front seat and the thick bulletproof partition between driver and passengers. Just like your local bank. The cabdrivers said it was because the black GIs had a penchant for mugging cab drivers. It seemed like every month there was a story in Stars and Stripes about a taxi being robbed.

Poetrooper

“These are complex and ambiguous situations but I can see where they are ripe for the picking for anyone that wants to make the case for racism.”

They are equally ripe pickings for those who want to make the case for the inevitable consequences of black criminality.

OldSoldier54

Ding! Ding! Ding!

timactual

“There were no gang fights; there were no territorial battles. Yet one by one, they packed their bags, and they ran from us. And they left communities in shambles,”

It’s whitey’s fault! Those honkies know us black folks can’t have a nice, safe, clean, neighborhood without white folks to show us how. My neighborhood just fell apart when the white folks left!

This woman is so eaten up with the “poor me, I’m a victim” mentality that she has no idea what she is saying. And yet this poor, persecuted, working class black girl got into Princeton, then Harvard, then into a succession of high-paying and prestigious jobs culminating in the international idol we have today.

A true example of Da Man keeping her people down.
