MSG Mark Allen Dies of Wounds
The Sun (UK) reports that Master Sgt Mark Allen, 46, has died of wounds he recieved 10 years ago while engaged in a firefight with the Taliban. Allen was searching for US Army deserter Bowe Bergdahl in Afghanistan.
Bergdahl had abandoned his sentry post, wandered off and got lost before being picked up by militiamen in June 2009.
He was held for five years before being handed over by the Taliban in a controversial prisoner swap in 2014.
One of those who risked his life looking for him was senior National Guard soldier Allen, who spent the next decade in a wheelchair unable to speak.
An obituary says he died on Saturday in Loganville, Georgia, “from complications of an injury sustained while serving in Afghanistan”.
His wife Shannon Allen said on Facebook: “I’m heartbroken to let you all know that my husband passed away peacefully yesterday morning with his family by his side.
“Over ten years ago, he sustained a severe head injury while serving in Afghanistan, which caused him lifelong health problems.
“These past few months, he has faced some significant illnesses, and his body was finally ready to rest.”
When they say that servicemen and women make sacrifices for our freedom, it is an understatement in this case. Bowe Bergdahl walks free today due to a lot of diplomatic and military efforts, not to mention “the trade.”

The deserter should have been sentenced to helping care for this man and his family along with the others he caused to be injured and killed. The deserter should have been sentenced to a life of servitude to the warriors that tried to save him.
Bergdahl should have been hanged.

My heart goes out to his wife and family – not only for his recent death, but for the last 10 years of what must have been extreme hardship. I thank the Lord for men like him and the families that have the strength to stand by their servicemen and women under difficult situations (and even the normal day to day usually difficult).
I won’t comment on the situation that lead to his injury. I’d prefer to not get worked up right at the beginning of the day. . .

MSG Mark Allen was a true “Warrior Citizen.” His brave, selfless service as a Reserve Component Soldier truly embodies the unity of America’s Army composed of three indispensable components (AD, ARNGUS, USAR).
As a Army Reserve officer I served with the 25th ID in Iraq and the 101st ABN Division in Afghanistan and my service was valued by my active duty brethren. I was never once dismissed or diminished as a mere “weekend warrior.” Our “long wars” demanded the integration of ARNGUS and USAR Soldiers in the total military effort. We each wore the same US Army tape on our uniform.
I salute MSG Allen for his distinguished 21 year Army career and his leadership on the battlefield. And I hope his legacy is long remembered by America’s Army.

I am quite sure that when Bergdahl croaks, there will be a group of people waiting for him on the other side. And they won’t be pleased to see him.
I highly doubt Bergdahl will go to where they. I suspect his destination will be much, much warmer.
Oh, they’ll be there waiting to help him through that “gate” into the Very Warm Place.
The demons will be quite happy to make his direct acquaintance.

I would love to personally escort Bergdahl to this warrior’s gravesite, and explain to him that he killed this man just as surely as if he had shot him himself. Let him bear the weight of the guilt and shame til his dying day.

That a highly decorated and dedicated soldier such as MSG Allen should die from wounds suffered looking for Bergdahl is appalling. Why in the hell Obama did that deal is beyond me. Bergdahl is and was a deserter during a combat situation. He should have been hung by the US Army.
