One achieving ambient temperature, one inconvenienced and one in the wind for a full house. Not too shabby at all Delta Whiskettes and Whiskies.
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until a majority of voters discover that they can vote themselves largess out of the public treasury. — Alexander Tyler (in his 1770 book, Cycle of Democracy)

I wonder how big the knife was that the perp was carrying in the Hawaii story? Most likely a machete.
Also, the perp learned a valuable lesson; never bring a knife to a gun fight. And you assume everyone is armed.
Alcohol + gunz = stoopidity on steroids.
Fired a warning shot.
(sigh……)
Only if it’s fired center mass at the same time. Otherwise it’s a waste of perfectly good ammunition, and you don’t know where that boolit will land and who it will hurt.
I have said this before, but it bears repeating. The first shot is a warning to the second target. The second shot is a warning to the third target, and so on, until there are no more targets or no more bullets.
Three dumbass deadbeats that don’t need floatation devices in their gene pools. Neither deep nor wide. I’m wid Tox; the warning shot WILL be penetrating flesh and, hopefully, causing catastrophic damage to vital organs.
Real nice baby pig sticker you got there Mister. Don’t think you’ll find one like that in the glass display case at the C-Store.
“Wooster”?
Hell, I’m a Texan and even I know that’s just wrong.
A lot of that knife vs. sun stuff going around lately…very poorly thought out in my estimation.
Meant “gun”. 🙁
Well, a knife isn’t much good against sun either . . . . (smile)
The Hawaii story is confusing in that the victim was on the “suspects” property when the “suspect” opened his front door and shot him. Something screwy with the story. In Florida if someone is outside on your property with a weapon and you open your door to shoot him/her, It’s considered a bad shoot. I take it that the person was able to see the armed person through a window. Maybe calling the PD would have been a better choice.
Or perhaps journalists could start defining a homeowner who is in imminent danger by a knife wielding thug, as the victim here. The thug is the one who got shot.
Yeah, I know. Been that way forever, Jeff, and they aren’t changing now.
What part of “According to the Honolulu Police Department” is unclear? If the cops are calling the shooter guy the suspect, and the stabby guy the victim, the reporter likely used the same attributed terms to avoid possible bias.
Hawaii apparently follows castle doctrine but also requires a duty to retreat unlike stand-your-ground laws in other states. In this instance, the shooting might require a higher evidence of threat before being ruled justified. Since the homeowner was arrested and released, homicide can likely be ruled out, but he might still face lesser charges.
So, AW1Ed, how does the “troll alert” system work?
This.
And where are these people coming from? Did DU finally get around to targeting us?! (Quietly sharpening bayonet)
Go to Saturday’s FGS and see. I’ll make the instructions more plain. Take it from the top of the post, it’s LARGE and BRIGHT for ease of finding.
I like the alert. Now the trolls can brag that they’ve finally earned something.
They didn’t build that.
I didn’t read Saturdays FGS until I saw the troll alert today and checked Saturday’s out. WOW and Holy Moley on that one.
The lidtard asshurt is strong with that one, Kemosabe…
Hump Dumpty, lecturing us that the Constitution means whatever they want it to mean, and we better obey or else.
I do not believe they fully understand the possibilities inherent in “else”.
Jeff LPH three is correct
Even in states with stand your ground and Castle doctrines, there is a reasonableness and immediacy test.
A Trespasser outside with a knife in his hand while you are inside your house with a closed door is not an immediate threat.
You can shoot to save other people, but there is no mention of other people anywhere near the knife wielding trespasser
A Reasonable homeowner would conclude he’s not in immediate danger and would call 911.
I hope that Hawaii homeowner has concealed carry insurance because he is likely to face some kind of charge.
