Concealed-carry holder, robber both killed in shootout in Roseland
By Jermaine Nolen
A concealed-carry permit holder and a man attempting to rob a business were each killed in a shootout Saturday night in Roseland on the Far South Side.Derrick Gholston, 43, was standing about 7:15 p.m. outside of a business in the first block of East 112th Place when he was approached by two men who flashed a handgun and demanded his property, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
After Gholston complied, the two suspects entered the business and announced another robbery, police said. Gholston, who was a concealed-carry permit holder, then pulled out his own gun and confronted the robbers, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
He and one of the robbers, 18-year-old Carlos Smith, were each struck and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, authorities said. Both were pronounced dead within an hour of the shootout.

Woman shot estranged husband
Well, that’s one way to settle a divorce in your favor. Totally. But collecting that alimony may be somewhat tricky. Will she be able to collect the life insurance?
“Estranged husband” is another term for “dead man walking.”
Only if he decides to visit the ex, for whatever reason, without a wing man to keep him out of trouble and act as a witness in case of trouble.
My sympathies to Mr Gholston’s family for their loss.
Several jokes and light hearted banter I could post, but it wouldn’t be appropriate.
Sympathies to the Gholston Family. The rest… not so much. Chiraq…again…sigh.
Good thing that the hand held Gatling Gun is not black…with a flip up thingie in the back…with a chainsaw bayonet attachment. It would really be scary then.
“…be the constant companion of your walks.” I never leave home without it.
At least the poor bastard took one with him! My prayers go out to his family.
I like that camo job on the pistol caliber carbine.
That skeletonized pistol grip is also nice.
What gun is that?
I want one!
I like the see thru bullet clip holder.
It isn’t a .30 caliber magazine clip, but it’ll do.
That person must be super strong….doesnt that thing weigh the same as 10 moving boxes?
Dancing in the blood of an innocent?
Keep digging, useless.
Technically an SBR would have a fixed stock made for bracing against the shoulder, whereas the AR/AK handguns have this floppy thingy made to strap to the arm. Chambered in a handgun cartridge, this would likely be considered a short barreled carbine? Someone who knows can clarify.
In the PDRofMD, these are considered to be regulated pistols, and are legal to possess. Put a full size stock on it and it magically transforms into an evil assault rifle AND a SBR.
Amazing.
Jesus, go suck start a howitzer, fuckstick.
