Thanksgiving Open Thread

Thanksgiving feast. Smelling the turkey, ham, stuffing, etc., when your stomach is ready to fill up. (Huffington Post)

Happy Thanksgiving Day TAH! By now, your Thanksgiving menu items are thawed out and ready to be cooked, or some of them are already cooking. Even if you can’t “eat it all”, there’s a way to stretch the “fresh from the oven” taste with leftovers.

Prior to microwaving the leftovers, spray some water onto the food. Then, place the leftovers in the microwave and heat as you would normally heat leftovers. Result? It would taste just like it came out of the oven.

Now, for some Thanksgiving music to go along with preparation and feasting:

Again, Happy Thanksgiving!

Way to dethrone CK on his 1st FIRST Sapper3307. As stated yesterday even if I was on the net when the Open Thread dropped, I’d need a big headstart cause of the speed (lack of) on this rig. There was a discussion a while back on the length/time frames of the various FIRSTs, you know, the Coveted Friday TAH WOT, the Random Open Threads, and or the Special Holiday Thread. Wonder if your FIRST today gives you Lording over privileges til the next Holiday Open Thread or maybe til the next Thanksgiving Open Thread? Inquiring minds want to know! Claw?

We are knee deep in the prep as we speak, with the breakfast casserole done up and Baby Sister working on the Hallowed (cast iron skillet) Buttermilk Cornbread used to make the Heavenly Dressing (NOT stuffing you heathen damyankees). Mr. Honey Baked Ham has been carved off the bone, the bone has been a’percurlating lowly in the crockett pot with the butter peas all night. The Ben Franklin proposed National Bird (20 pounder whole and 12 pounder bone in breast) is a’smoking on the big green egg. The pecan pie, cookies, rum chocolate cake, apple crisp, punkin pie, oreo cream cheese cake, cranberry sauce (HT to “Ed), and gravy (standing by warm in another crockett pot) is all done from evening past. Squash casserole, deviled eggs. Brei cranberry poppers. Chicken and dumplins. A porked beast loin with baked beans with bacon are in two other crockett pots. Green bean casserole and 7 layer salad from soccer mom down the street on the way a little later. Homemade smashed taters and dinner rolls from soccer Mom across the street. Homeboy and his Ms Thang that can’t cook are bringing the “wine, drinks, and ice.” Also some other appeteaser trays from Publix. Good thing she’s drop dead good looking. No true Southern Boy gonna hook up with a Ms Thang that can’t cook.

Despite all of our trials, tribulations, and sorrows we have so much to be Thankful for. God’s Blessing to All.

Green Thumb

I have not seen a Publix in a long time….

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

5th/77;
WOW, that’s some meal being cooked. I see you mentioned Publix, so due to the pulled tooth on Tuesday, I went to Publix and bought two already made turkey hero’s for my Sister and myself. Was supposed to be taken out for my post birthday dinner tonight by my friend and his Daughter but wanted to wait out the 3 day post extraction stuff that’s written in the instruction sheet they give you. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family and of course this wouldn’t be a real “Jeff” comment without me saying that you really talked Turkey on that big feast your having today.

5th/77th FA

No time for half measures. If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right. We’ll be feeding 18-24 total. Having been hungry a time or 12 in the past, ain’t nobody gone gets hungry around me now. Gots Publix at home but usually trade with K Roger. Since I couldn’t drive down by myself in the skateboard, Josey, couldn’t bring my large stocked cooler, used Publix like all the soccer moms. There is a Publix on every damn corner down here. Shoulda posted the GPS Coordinates so you, sister, Frankie Cee, and Wilted Willy coulda come by. We right between Riverview and Lithia.

ps…just to be mean, let y’all know I had to sample a chunk of the outside slice of the cornbread with a chunk of real butter melted on it. AnotherPat would be so proud.

Wilted Willy

Hi FA, so when am I coming to dinner? That all sounds just wonderful!! I just want to wish all of my friends at TAH a very warm and wonderful Thanksgiving! I don’t know what I would do without all of my dear friends here at TAH! I love all of the support that I get here from all of you!
Happy Thanksgiving to All!!!

Thunderstixx

Good to see you WW.
Praying you are doing well.

AW1Ed

Plagiarism in the most sincere form of flattery. Quite a spread there, D3CC. Almost enough to feed a (BEAT!) army.

*grin*

Happy T-Day to one and all, TAH’ers. Take a moment and reflect on our brothers and sisters on the pointy end, who are unable to share the day with family.

Skyjumper

Wait, wait, wait, 5th/77th FA….no Cat Heads?? (grin)

Hope you are wearing suspenders today or the pants with the elastic waste, looks like you might need it. j/k

Hope you and yours are having a great Thanksgiving 5th/77th FA and the same to all of the miscreants here at TAH.

5th/77th FA

‘Stixx, had the cat heads with the breakfast casserole (yellow grits, eggs, crumbled sausage, bacon, and cheese. Ms Soccer Mom Thang wanted to show off her skills with the homemade sourdough dinner rolls. I’m hoping that ain’t all she shows off. ‘Bout 82 degrees F here. May have to mix up some Margaritas, tequila makes her clothes fall off.

5th/77th FA

Sky not Stixx… damn bifocal and depth perception. Saw my error right when I punched the post button and forgot to go back and correct it. Been in a food for a few hours. I wonder if having some of everything we made had anything to do with it? Nah, can’t be that. We still go 3 days worth of cooked rations.

Sapper3307

I must thank my two rat dogs tiny bladders for being awake and achieving this great honor.

Mick

2nd.

Up and and about and already in the kitchen getting things ready for the feast to come later today.

Happy Thanksgiving to Team TAH!

Combat Historian

Happy Thanksgiving. Hitting the road and heading out of state for a short getaway later on tonight…

Cameron Kingsley

Already had my Thanksgiving dinner here in Yokosuka. Carl’s Junior! Going to visit Seoul pretty soon.

NHSparky

They have Carl’s Jr. there now? Only hamburger joints out in town last time I was there were McDonald’s and Johnny Rockets.

But if I’m there, I’ll go with the ramen joints, stick dogs, gyoza, and chu-hi.

Too bad the Honch is a pale imitation of its former self.

A Proud Infidel®™

Whatsa matter with some Yakimandu at some “Chop Shop?

Green Thumb

Happy Thanksgiving.

As the False Commander “Phony” Phil Monkress (CEO of All-Points Logistics) continues to avoid calls seeking clarification of his felonious Navy SEAL, Law Enforcement Officer and Native American claims.

Curious what he and All-Points Logistics are doing this holiday? My best guess is stuffing their felonious asses with taxpayer-funded chow while bullshitting each other with their claims of heroism and derring-do!

I wonder also if “Phony” Phil Monkress (CEO of All-Points Logistics) went full Phildo and offered to work balls in the stall two doors down on the right in the hall!

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

I looked up all-points logistics earlier and it looked like a legit site.

Hondo

Oh, it’s a legit company. But let’s just say that the CEO has . . . his issues.

Multiple issues.

Happy Thanksgiving to all here at TAH!

Add brandy and cornstarch mixture. Simmer 5 minutes.

Cool and serve.

Hondo

Happy Thanksgiving, all.

A request. Sometime today, when you’re being thankful for everything else good in your life, please remember to be thankful for one other thing.

Freedom.

If you’ve ever served or traveled overseas, you’ve seen how some of the rest of humanity lives. And you know that the freedom we enjoy as Americans is indeed a rare and precious thing.

Wilted Willy

Amen Hondo!
I wish some of these pussy SJW’s could actually see how some of the rest of the world lives? Much less carry one of those nasty black scary rifles???

A Proud Infidel®™

AMEN to that WW, I wish for each and every fleabag SJW to spend at least six months to a year in some of the third world hellholes I have spent time in!

5th/77th FA

^THIS^ One of the reasons I go all out is to make up for all the bad times.

Maybe there should be a Corps of nothing but the SJWs. That way, the good troops wouldn’t have to put up with or be endangered by them.

Wilted Willy

I’m sure they would carry umbrella’s into battle!

A Proud Infidel®™

They ought to be forced to go tap dance in suspected minefields!

Graybeard

Amen, Hondo.

A truth that is too often unrecognized.

Years ago there was a commercial where people
were sitting around the dinner table when one
person raised their glass and said
“to Freedom”
It brought tears to my eyes.
Thanks for the reminder Hondo.

26Limabeans

Might have been Meryl Streep in a “Move On”
commercial but still….there it was.

A Proud Infidel®™

Ahh yes, the Soros-funded “Move On” where there were celebrities whoring themselves to “Blowjob WIllie”,…

Fyrfighter

Happy Thanksgiving all!

Happy Thanksgiving to all you TAHers out there.

Happy Indigenous People’s Day to all you descendants of genocidal settlers.

/S Heavy sarcasm tag there, which shouldn’t be necessary, but now…

Perry Gaskill

Greta Thunberg wants to remind you she’ll never forgive you for driving your car on Thanksgiving…

Mason

I might just leave my suburban idling in the driveway all day in her honor.

Graybeard

Aww, screw her.

A Proud Infidel®™

I’ll go for a drive in my 4WD Pickup Truck just for the satisfaction of pissing her off.

It snowed ten inches here so I ran the
snowblower all day. With additives like
lead substitute, ethanol protector,
otane boost and Marvel mystery oil for
upper cylinder lubrication.
Happy Thanksgiving Greta!

FINALLY we have a Thursday for Cooking and you don’t use that title.
Noticed no one included an appropriate wine to accompany the meal (i.e., when you have wine with a meal you are not just eating, you are dining), let me contribute. Give the age of many readers, this is more than appropriate:
California vintners who primarily produce
Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Grigio wines
have developed a new hybrid grape that acts
as an anti-diuretic. It is expected to reduce the number of trips older people have to make to
the bathroom during the night. The new wine is named: PINO MORE.

I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE!!
Sorry, it was too good to let pass!

Sea Dragon

I loves me a Vernaccia di San Gimignano.

5th/77th FA

SiL has a jug of Simi and an assortment of Stella Rosa, Cast and Barrel Savornay, some Merlots and what not.

In a Salute to Pappy, the Stranger, I’ll be knocking the bottom out of some frosty Yuengling Lagers. There is a mason jar of Georgia Apple Jack I brought for sipping purposes.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

You forgot to add in Thunderbird and Sly fox wine Club Manager. These two wines also come with brown paper bags to hold the bottle while you take a drink.

5th/77th FA

Boone’s Farm Strawberry Hill?

Club Manager, USA ret.

Absolutely. Vintages, aging techniques, tenor, glassware, serving temperature, not of that stuff is as important as getting that sucker open. Grasp the cap firmly in your right hand and bottle in the left – then twist and presto its open. Only one hard and fast rule of etiquette. When your drinking partner passes you the bottle, do not wipe off the neck, it will offend your partner and her germs.

A Proud Infidel®™

Thunderbird also doubles as a tile floor stripper, why not go for the gusto with some Wild Irish Rose or Midnight train?

All is great here in the Triple T, (Texas Thunder Bunker) Ranch with a great day scheduled here on God’s Green Earth.
There is me, the dog and my two cats for Thanksgiving.
It’s Golden Corral, $14.99 for all I can force into my big fat mouth !!!

Thankful for a bunch of stuff, including the greatest nation on earth.

Also for this outstanding forum. Thanks to all who work it and support it.

As a good commander should, our Commander-in-Chief is spending Thanksgiving with the troops…

In Afghanistan.

Happy Thanksgiving from us Poe folks, everyone.

Graybeard

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

At the GB Compound we will be celebrating together on Saturday – working around the schedules of our kid’s in-laws does that to us.

I pray all our troops will be able to enjoy a bit of the traditional feast – even if certain beverages are proscribed – and know that a good number of us sitting around the family tables are including them in our prayers.

A Proud Infidel®™

Yeah, General Order 1A added some suck to Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day in the ME.

OWB

Here’s hoping all are continuing to enjoy a very good Thanksgiving Day. The neighbors provided most excellent buffets. All they wanted from me was to show up. Of course, Mama would find that totally unacceptable, so some pumpkin roll was contributed to each household.

Nap time now!

Roh-Dog

Have a great Thanksgiving y’all!
Please keep our men and women in uniform in your prayers.

Hack Stone

Hack Stone is just thankful that if he happens to be 200 yards from the landing strip at Sisters Eagle Airport, he no longer has to worry about a disbarred attorney crashing into him.

SFC D

MRS D and I adopted 4 young Soldiers from the Intel School for the day. Great kids, smart and motivated, restored my faith in the future of the Army. Jumped in and helped with everything from cooking to cleaning. They went back to the barracks well-fed with plenty of leftovers.

GDContractor

That’s awesome! I bet they’ll remember that for 5he rest of their lives.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.
