Police: Customer shoots 7-Eleven robbery suspects, killing one

by: Kara Dixon
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — One person is dead and another is hurt following a robbery and shooting Thursday morning at a 7-Eleven in Virginia Beach.

Police said officers were called to the 7-Eleven store at 130 S. Newtown Road just after 2 a.m.

One person was dead at the scene, while the other was transported to a local hospital. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

Two people who were inside the store told 10 On Your Side two young men wearing hoodies and bandanas covering their faces walked inside the store. They had what looked like real guns and told everyone to freeze.

“I just couldn’t believe it was happening,” said Barrie Engel, who was at the register at the time. “They told us not to move and they told us to stay where we were.”

The witnesses said one of the suspects went behind the counter and started taking money out of the register. The clerk reportedly told the suspects they didn’t have to do this — and that’s when the witnesses said they heard gunshots.

The Virginia Beach incident was the fourth 7-Eleven police say the robbers hit in just a matter of hours.

Owner shoots suspected car prowler in Covington, police say

By Christine Clarridge
A man was shot early Thursday by a Covington homeowner who said he felt threatened and thought the man was breaking into his vehicle, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.

King County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Cynthia Sampson said deputies were called to the 25000 block of 160th Avenue Southeast in unincorporated King County around 2:07 a.m. after the homeowner’s neighbor heard a gunshot and a person yelling, “Call the police!”

The 49-year-old homeowner told deputies that he saw two men inside his vehicle, which was parked in front of his house, Sampson said.

One fled, but the homeowner “felt threatened by the second subject” and shot him, she said.

The homeowner told KOMO News that he thought the man he shot had a firearm.

Midtown resident shoots juvenile robbery suspect; two other men taken into custody after pursuit ends in crash

A midtown resident shot a juvenile robbery suspect in his backyard Wednesday night, and police say they caught two more suspects nearby.

The boy who was shot was in critical condition Wednesday night, but he is expected to survive, Cpl. Joel Ward said.

Ward said a tangled web of events started about 8:15 p.m. in the 9800 block of East 12th Street, where a man reported being robbed at gunpoint of $12 while he was mowing his yard.

Officers gathered a description of the robbers’ car from the victim and neighbors’ surveillance cameras and sent it out along with pictures to other officers.

Ward said it’s common for robbers to rob again if they don’t gain enough from their first crime, and he thinks $12 wasn’t enough.

“You split that three or four ways, and it doesn’t go very far,” he said.

About 30 minutes later, a similar robbery took place farther southwest, in the 2700 block of East 45th Place, Ward said.

About 9 p.m. an officer near 11th Street and Sheridan Road saw a car that matched the description of the one used in the robberies and initiated a traffic stop.

There is no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. Queue the protests, the riots, and the grieving family mugging the camera in regards to shooting #1 at the 7-Eleven. I hope the shooter’s life doesn’t get ruined because of what he did.

On the Covington, WA shooting, King County deputies recovered a stolen handgun at the scene. It was reported missing on a previous car prowl.

Deputies recovered a backpack from the wounded prowler and were waiting for a search warrant to see what other goodies he was carrying to close other cases.

Edit… the recovered stolen handgun came from a prowl that happened on an earlier date in another neighborhood.
